TALISMAN EDDY’S EYES ON IBROX

KING of Cool Odsonne Edouard will be looking forward to Celtic’s visit to Ibrox on Sunday.

The 22-year-old French striker revels in the Glasgow derbies as he underlined back in September when he sauntered through a retreating rearguard to slide the opening goal under the body of the advancing Allan McGregor in the 32nd minute.

That set up the champions for a 2-0 success with substitute Jonny Hayes, who only came on as a substitute in the 85th minute for Mikey Johnston, hitting the killer second in stoppage-time.

Edouard, the Hoops’ record buy at £9million from Paris Saint-Germain in June 2018, has been directly involved in eight goals in his eight Premiership appearances against the Govan club, scoring six and assisting in two.

He made an instant impact when he was introduced as a second-half substitute in Govan in March 2018 with the game tied at 2-2 and the home side pushing for the winner against their 10-man opponents following Jozo Simunovic’s red card with more than half-an-hour still to play.

Edouard hit the matchwinner when he drifted in from the left to curl a superb effort away from the stranded Wes Foderingham into the top left-hand corner of the net.

He was on target again in this campaign when he netted the Hoops goal in the 2-1 loss just before the turn of the year when he deflected a Callum McGregor shot beyond McGregor.

And he was massively instrumental in the Hoops winning the Betfred League Cup against Steven Gerrard’s outfit at Hampden three weeks earlier. Neil Lennon was forced to keep the team’s talisman on the substitutes bench at the start as he fought for match fitness.

However, the gaffer sent him on for the toiling Lewis Morgan on the hour mark – and moments later Christopher Jullien had netted the only goal of the encounter.

Connor Goldson, the Ibrox centre-half, went out of his way to ‘welcome’ Edouard to proceedings with a crude and wayward challenge on the left touchline when the French ace got his first touch of the ball. It was a clear foul, a free-kick was awarded, Ryan Christie swung in an inviting effort and Jullien did the rest with a neat sidefoot past McGregor.
