Tallinn or Gibraltar in Champions League for Celtic

532

Brendan Rodgers will start Celtic’s Champions League trail against Flora Tallin, from Estonia, or Lincoln Red Imps, from Gibraltar, in the tournament’s second qualifying round.

Flora, who are seeded against Lincoln Red Imps, are midseason, but went out in the first qualifying round a year ago to Rabotnicki, from Macedonia (who reached the play-off round before losing narrowly to Russians, Rubin Kazan).

Red Imps won the big (cough) Iberian derby last year when they eliminated Santa Coloma from Andorra, before crashing to Erik Sviatchenko’s Midtjylland.

Neither are the British Isles-based tie Brendan Rodgers would have preferred, travelling arrangements will cost an extra day’s training, but there were far more arduous opponents in the draw.

Games take place on 12/13th July and 19/20th July. The away tie is scheduled first – but you know the drill, don’t book flights until Uefa have ratified match arrangements.

  1. Last night’s golf coverage showed it’s not only football that suffers from arsehole commentators.

Ewan Murray’s totally uncalled for description of US Open Winner Dustin Johnson as “not the brightest bulb in the floodlights” during play will take a bit of beating.

    One thing is certain.

Even at his physical peak, the arrogant slug wouldn’t have been saying it to 1.93m tall Dustin’s face.

Unless he wanted to be going home with a real ‘wedgie’.

Trouble is the leave campaign is based on emotion rather than reason, so facts won’t sway them.

It’s just like the Scottish referendum in that regard.

So the STV story is the journalistic equivalent of the Nimmo Smith farce, asking limited questions and coming up with conclusions invented to protect deadco. Interesting to note the posters quick to push it as fact. Level 5 plants?

  9. Watching game in Timmy’s in Torreblanca. Bar next door also showing it. Both bars using the Internet to broadcast game but the other bar is two minutes behind. Hilarious watching the delayed reactions at the other bar.

Are you suggesting he is wrong? or that he should have been too scared to say it in case druggie boy took the hump?

Also interesting to find the res12 guys have a response already from EUFA and seem to be playing cat and mouse with level 5 and their plants about how and when to release it. I guess the STV strategy here is to disrupt our bhoys plans or to try to force their hand. Good luck bhoys.

    Ernie,

Your mention of Andrew Dewar Gibb earlier today prompted me to read a bit about him and indeed William Wolfe.

Two utter pieces of anti-Catholic and anti-Irish racist, bigoted pondlife.

  13. TRICOLOURED RIBBON on 20TH JUNE 2016 8:43 PM

To be fair to Wolfe he later apologised for his remarks. I believe he went on to marry a Catholic.

The point is though that he had spent his adult life in the SNP and became its leader holding those views.

Despite the gallant efforts and all out attempts by the Res.12 lads to achieve justice

I don’t think it will be successful.

Simply because the Masonic Lodge is too powerful.

  15. Very impressed with the Wales performance.

Just shows that having your big clubs playing in the EPL doesn’t necessarily mean the kiss of death for the national side.

  16. Tricoloured Ribbon on

    Ernie,

Maybe as Wolfe got older he mellowed a bit.

To be honest,I didn’t even know who Gibb was until you mentioned him this morning.

A quick read about him showed what he was all about.

I don’t think he changed his ways before he went to the grave..

  17. I see that world beater Vladimir Weiss is looking good for player of the tournament. What a waste of a shirt. The rest of the Slovakian bench must be pure Scheiss if they can’t displace him from the team, lazy lazy player. England should be out of sight and may regret missing so many chances.

  18. Welsh fans singing their national anthem is wonderful – let’s hope they finish the job – would bring on Robson-Kanu for Vokes.

……….and Lord Lucan for that matter?

I’ve no idea what criteria Murray was using to come to his conclusion, nor what Johnson’s IQ is.

I am saying he was wrong to say it as it was completely irrelevant to the event on which he was commentating.

Had he referenced some comment Johnson had made, or one thing stupid he had done, I might not have felt it necessary to comment, but it was unprofessional, nasty and cowardly.

I wonder if you would be as sanguine if it were a BT/Sky/BBC commentator talking needlessly about a Celtic player like that during a game.

‘Welsh fans singing their national anthem is wonderful’

Their songs aren’t well suited to football, they are too slow and out of sync with the pace of the game.

    Same as Scotland’s.

He cannot state on air anything about at least one stupid thing he has done, if only he could instead of just branding him a bit thick

  24. Once again more strength to the Requisitioners. I look forward to their coming comments/report on the feedback they received from UEFA.

I would also like to take this opportunity to apologise to then personally for being one of the many who have put external pressure on the guys to prematurely speak about their efforts & the details and feedback they have received from UEFA with regards Res12. After today I realise that this pressure may have lead to the guys stating that they intended to make some announcement this coming week once again giving L5 and their lapdogs a heads up that they would not normally have had affording them a premptive strike to set the public agenda on this.

Pretty much now, anything that the Res12 guys do, say, state will be largely ignored even though it will as we all know be factually true and not the fairy tale being pushed by SMSM.

The only way, I believe, the Res12 guys take on this will be taken seriously and be aired Outwith the interweb will be if Celtic FC PLC follow up with a statement confirming the requisitioners position. I am sceptical that Celtic FC PLC will be of a mind to do so.

So for me, it is time to let the guys work to their own calendar without the pressure of us numpties who are aware of none of the facts, the timescales and the difficulties the guys are facing daily and leave them to their work.

My apologies once again guys for my part in any pressure that you have been put under on these pages to act prematurely.

  25. Was very noticeable this afternoon when STV broke their story how the “broken record” poster immediately waded in with a post slagging Celtic for not saying anything to support Res12 but in no way questioning the so called facts in the STV story.

I have said it before and will repeat it again. He may be a Celtic supporter but his main purpose is as a media plant to cause discontent on one of the major Celtic forums.
