The premier business paper where Uefa is headquartered in Nyon, Tribune de Geneve, today ran an advert, paid for by public subscription, questioning the governance of Scottish football.
The advert asked readers to reference The Offshore Game report: Doing SFA for Fair Play and explained some of the issues governance, accountability and oversight in Scottish football. It reads:
“A report by The Offshore Game (TOG), an arm of The Tax Justice Network (TJN), has highlighted examples of poor SFA governance in respect of:
• A Commission established in 2012 by the Scottish Premier League to investigate the use of employee benefit trusts to reduce the tax paid to HMRC by an SFA member club where the SFA provided key testimony which is now being questioned.
• The processing of a UEFA Licence in 2011 by The SFA when Court Officers called to collect overdue tax from a member club between Champions League and Europa League qualifying games. Proving there were no overdue and unpaid taxes was a condition of granting then retaining a licence to compete in both UEFA competitions. The tax concerned was never paid!
• The SFA have neither commented on the TJN report nor attempted to address the issues it raises. The TJN has called for an independent review of the SFA to make it more accountable.
• A group of shareholders of Celtic PLC acting in terms of Resolution 12 of the Celtic PLC AGM of 2013, have been pressing the SFA for over two years for a satisfactory explanation of their administration of the UEFA licensing process in 2011. In the absence of any meaningful reply they have now taken up the case with the UEFA Club Financial Control Body.
The TOG report highlights the financial cost over a decade to the British Taxpayer in Millions of pounds. The cost to Scottish football in terms of the loss of trust placed in the SFA to govern the Scottish game with integrity is incalculable.
Football fans everywhere are invited to read this important report into the game in Scotland.”
Our game suffers from a perceived lack of oversight, accountability and governance; fundamental requirements in modern sport which have been painfully lacking across world football for decades. Uefa now have an opportunity to measure where Scottish football, and their own processes, are on these metrics.

Various people have been hinting that Celtic would issue something about Res 12 for the past few weeks……Paul Larking mentioned it on Homebhoys Podcast, canna remember if Joe O’Rourke mentioned it in his CSA Statement ?….and the impression from on here was that the adverts were being placed at same time as submission was made to Uefa, and that it would tie in with something from Celtic.
Or have I been picking things up wrong?
It explains also the THG getting highly concerned about it’s publication and their quick retreat I.e as soon as the assurances were given ….. Nothing official from Celtic …they could relax

After much soul searchng, I’ve already renewed my 3 STs, but my concern remains that the Board may be sneakily using the Res 12ers (God bless them)., for short-term gain.
If that turns out to be the case, it will surely backfire in the longer term: BR won’t be our manager forever.
We should know fairly soon what the Board is up to.
Great to see some wider interest in the issue, too: the more eyes are on this the better…

It seems that we are expected to believe that the trophies belong to the CLUB, but the debts that were incurred in buying the players to win those trophies belong to some external “company”.

I can confirm that the club have been working with the resolutioners for a couple of years now on the Res 12 issue, culminating in the submission of (previously mentioned in a disappeared post) large brown parcels landing on Uefas desk right about now ;)

However in the greater picture, right at the heart of the cheating is an individual who seems to be like Teflon. Inability to land even a glancing blow in his direction by Anybody is at the crux of this whole house of cards.

I have no idea how res12 will pan out but resolutioners deserve all credit.
I have no knowledge of corporate governance but would think actions and activities prejudicial to company and shareholders would HAVE to be challenged by the office holders of the company?
I only have my own opinion as to the apparent uplift in ST sales and it’s nothing to do with newclub or Res12 (however worthy). Welcome Brendan!!!!

There was a plan in place to stop everyone jumping up and down when UEFA were contacted.
It fell down as WC explained earlier no copy sent and holiday weekend intervening.
It’s unfortunate but all it means for now is there is a bit of catch up for Celtic to do. The quicker the better before knickers become so twisted somebody’s leg falls off.
For Celtic to have pulled out of the arrangement, and there is nothing to suggest they have , would not imo be in Celtic’s interests and they and others know it.
All down the line legal aspects have as Canalamar says delayed matters. Even our own solicitor at times had to satisfy himself we/he was onside.
Give it another 48 hrs to get on track. After nearly 3 bloody years is that too much to ask.

Rpeetitive is correct, you only ever use the same arguments and abuse towards neganon2 in my book that’s repetitive.
You accept what he says is mostly true yet you do not feel the same outrage or passion he displays you simply barrack him in the same way everytime.
That disregard for his passion and assault on his sentiment displays to me that your opinion of him is more important to you than the questions and arguments he makes. On that I base my assumption on how important the running of our club is.
However, assumption and presumption are a marriage made in heaven but offspring that belong in hell.
