Tannadice perfect preparation for Champions League

404

I can remember a few comfortable wins at Tannadice but only when Celtic have played at their very best.  Even good Celtic teams have found Dundee United a handful for over 30 years.  Tomorrow will be no different.

I watched some of United’s League Cup game against Hearts on Wednesday, it’s hard to figure out where Peter Houston is taking them, but they remain recognisable as Dundee United, they are skilful and play a fast, passing, game.  In many respects, they are the perfect domestic opponent to face before meeting Barcelona.

The shadow of Champions League football will cast itself over Neil Lennon’s plans, even though the manager will understand the best preparation for a big game is to win the previous game, so Celtic will travel with as much urgency as they can muster.

We need a point to replace Edinburgh Hibernians (it is the modern style to use pre-liquidation names) at the top of the SPL, anything less would be unsatisfactory.

    I wear the poppy to remember the good men and women who died in the 2 World Wars. As you say, I do not wear it for the brutal, perverted, animals who committed atrocities to satisfy their lust for the blood of innocents………

  2. Xavi , what would he know about football ?

    Get tore into them Celtic, we were playing total football when they were a pub team!!

    ……I also wear my poppy for the poor innocents, Kitalba, of whom there were far too many………and I deplore war as much as I deplore the politicians who start them, in their lust for power, and to cover up their total diplomatic etc failures…..

  5. Will be an interesting team selection today. Forrest, Lassad & Samaras out, Brown & Hooper doubtful, lacking numbers up front. Time for Miku to join us and start showing why the manager signed him.

    Barca and Chelsea – what really is the difference?

    Both clubs operating massively outwith their means.

    Never understood the hero worship of Barca maong our fans.

  7. So anybody that defends in numbers against Barcelona and plays on the break, against the assembled riches for which they are in Sevconian like debt, is playing anti football?

  8. Morning, just hope the bhoys are focused on todays game and dont have an eye on Wednesdays game against Barca can see it being a tough game I would love to see the team we put out away against St Mirren play today if they are all fit that is,we were excellent that day and destroyed the buddies

  9. Best team today:

    ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Forster :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

    Lustig :::::::::: Wanyama ::::::::::::: Mulgrew :::::::::::: Ledley

    Brown ::::::::::: Ambrose ::::::::::::::: Kayal ::::::::: Commons

    :::::::::::::::::::::::: Hooper ::::::::::::::::: Watt :::::::::::::::::::::::::::

    (Matthews in if Brown unfit)

    Lustig/Brown now our best option down the right after the St Johnstone game. Would like to see Ambrose at CM after his display v Raith. Hooper and Watt – simply our best front two in 4-4-2. Ledley and Mulgrew can’t be left out (Mulgrew for his form, Joe for his at LB at Tannadice). Commons on Tues gave the best individual performance I’ve ever seen during Lenny’s reign.

  10. For anyone heading to Dundee from Aberdeen way:

    Trains suspended after derailment at Inverkeilor in Angus. A train has derailed on the line between Arbroath and Montrose.

    Tayside Police said the train was thought to have come off the tracks at about 10:00 at Inverkeilor in Angus.

    One train was involved. Scotrail said no-one had been injured.

    Rail services between Dundee and Aberdeen have been suspended.

  11. I think Samaras will play lone striker on Wednesday,Commons from the left and Brown from the right supporting.A tight 3 in the middle Ledley,Wanyama, Mulgrew or Kayal. Hooper’s first touch isn’t good enough at this level,as he proved in Nou Camp.

    Nice. Nice.

    But you broke one of the unwritten rules, there. Ignore the balance sheet and feel the aura of invincibility (aw roon’).

  13. tommytwiststommyturns on

    Bada Bing – Hooper is a better player than you give him credit for. We already knew he couldn’t play the lone striker role, our game plan went belly up when Sami got injured.

    Hooper is the most instinctive finisher at the club, but he also does good work dropping off.

    As Ned Flanders would say, it’s all about opinions! :-)

    In all seriousness, there seems to be a mutual aspect which makes some of both our club’s supporters ‘simpatico’ to each other.

    I am in that category. And it probably forms from a held belief of social fairness and awareness. And a left leaning too. I may be wrong, but that is what drives part of my commitment to Celtic and to Barca. Although, I find it refreshing to see how quickly I could lose my support for Barca when they are fortunate enough to play Celtic.

    We’re somewhat intertwined by Henrik too. And although he got the medal he deserved, I think we got the best of him – and for that I am grateful…

    Hope to see more of Miku liked his movement off the ball last game he played he just didn’t get passes for him to use properly.

    Big win hopefully today then roll on Wednesday.

    Hope no-one is hurt on the train derailment Aberdeen to Dundee.

  19. Just having a look on the Beeb site at the SPL’s top scorers this season. Strange reading indeed for us:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/scottish-premier/top-scorers

    P.S. I might be blind but using Firefox and cannot see the old link creator anywhere. Also when going from page to page on here it loads the whole page i.e. Paul’s article as well. It used to skip straight to the start of the comments after page 1. Have I missed a trick?

    I think next weeks match has been moved because the police wanted it to be moved. I guess that the horrible lot are at home.

    As for playing today rather than yesterday, it is ridiculous! :-)

    Thank you it is always thus….thankfully most of the bus members think Pinot is a Portuguese left back.
