Tannadice would be nice

76

Tannadice!  I have been lucky to see Celtic win the league twice at Tannadice, that dramatic end to the season in 2008, when a Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink header won the league, and 1981, with equally fond memories of a classic 2-3 win.  We also return to the venue where the league slipped away in 2021, after an insipid 0-0 draw.  It is not Celtic Park, but it is a proper stadium and United are a proper football team.

Missing out on winning the tile on Saturday will cost Celtic money.  Had we won at Perth the previous week, the Kilmarnock game would have been a sell-out, while a few tons of merchandise would have been sold.  Some of that will go on trophy day, but we will only get one sell-out opportunity this side of the summer.

Jimmy Thelin’s magic has well and truly dipped, so the midweek trip to Pittodrie holds no worries.  Nor does home games against a very competent Hibs or St Mirren.  That leaves Ibrox on 4 May as the date in the diary.  There will be nothing at stake that day, but a champions’ performance would be appropriate.

Sorry for the late appearance today….work.

Thanks for sharing the main stand picture.

Great memories of both sitting in it and being terrified it was going to collapse every time we got a corner and also viewing it from exactly that angle. We mostly used to stand at the stand side floodlight pylon at the rangers end with my dad and his brothers when I was a child.

  5. Great memories of the 2 wins at Dundee utd which Paul mentions.

Both with really special Tommy Burns associations of course.

The more recent 1-1 game where we won the league was a miss for me as I was in hospital at the time but there seemed a bit less jeopardy that night.

brilliant image, never seen it before, added to my collection.

i often wondered how celtic park got to thos incredible 80.000+ attendnaces back in the hey day, but when you see the rake of the enclosure terrace, it must have held as many as the jungle did.

    cheers.

  8. I hope we park the League and concentrate on the semi. St Johnstone recently beat us in Perth and we are inconsistent. this is now our most important game. The treble is on the line.

I wonder what Celtic team will turn up. The team from Perth or the team from early v Kilmarnock.

    On to glory

  9. the 1981 championship.

bitter sweet memory in my young life.

i was taken to matches firstly by my father in 1970, and then every now and again by an uncle, usually if i had stayed in my grannies, one of the 6 uncles still living at home would be persuaded by my granny to get me out the house.

that was up till 74/75 ehen i started to go on the greenock shamrock bus with an uncle in law duncan campbell, and so the adventure begun. trips all over scotland, celtic park in all weathers, the realisation, that living in a council new estate in the port was a million miles better than the poverty seen at barrowfield where we parked the bus.

but, having committed myself , i wasnt allowed to rangers games, or european games, and i was “held back” with the promises, i would be allowed once i was in the high school, but it didnt come quick enough, as my mum put a stop to me i wasnt alowed to the 4-2 game, not allowed to the real madrid game, in spite of getting to every other game that season apart from the rangers ones.

my younger by a year twin brothers, born in may 67, used to torment me, that they had sneaked to rangers games before i was even allowed.

confirmed for me in the 1980 cup final, when i had played football in the morning in glasgow, and got the train back to greenock, to get to the shamrock, we pulled into gilmour street, and the train on the other side, had a load of guys from the port, all hooped up, and with bottles of el-d chanting away, my two brothers, aged only 12 (their birthday that day) waving at me through thw window.

    feckin chancers.

my next big miss, tannadice 1981, this year though i had been to every game, including european home, and ibrox.

but, i stayed in scholl till belltime, 3;30, ran down heggies avenue to catch the shammy bus at woodhall, but where there was usually a few dozen people, there was nobody,

a greemock celtic bus passed, stopped, opened the door and asked if i wanted to get on, daft as i was , i had no money, and said it was ok, i will wait on the shammy bus, they said it was already gone, but i said its ok, i will wait.

it was a long moody walk back up the hill.

i listened to the match in my room, old radio clyde, park and sandison.

i didnt know whether to laugh or cry, i really was that upset.

    but we won.

th twins, came in the door sometime early in the morning, like 2am, my maw raging, but duncan was with them and said, they had turned up at the club (skidged school) and he had to take them.

    i am still gutted.

  10. Just watched BBC Scotland news. They announced that Dumbarton Football Club “had exited administration and kept their heritage in place”. So they seem to now understand the consequence of liquidation.

Given your background and interest in buildings etc what do you think of the decision to demolish

the old Clune Park estate in Port Glasgow? Seems to me, though I have never seen it up close that there is some decent architecture there, not to mention its’ industrial history. The spokesman for InverClyde even admitted that it would be cheaper to renovate/refurbish than to demolish and build new housing. Decent backdrop too. Seen it all before it has to be said…

It does not matter if traitor Celtic fans bought tickets in 2016 which ‘stamped’ Sevco as Rangers helping the Huns to cover up their crimes and go along with the big lie.

Who needs to worry about EBT crimes which led to the death of Rangers, when you can just roll out “Sevco” and good guy Tims will just go along with the cover up as soon as the Bobby Ewing shower scene tickets will be rolled out at the bargain price of £49?

Its a no brainer. Aint that so Timdom?

    ————–

ta for asking, i thought about posting a few times about it, the story of clune park estate very much reflects the history of the port, and my own family (and my wifes) had several geneartions living there over the life span.

i get really pissed off with the negative coverage of scotlands chernobyl and fergusons, always really down on the town, showing beautiful backdrops, then interviewing soome poor sod who has been in the pub since it opened.

by the wat, councillor mccabe is the wee brother of terry mccabe, for whom a tric-colour is taken to every celtic game, some man. greatly missed.

will post some stuff on clune park if you are interested more ?

They just need to score the next five goals.

In short I think you should post on the Clune Estate when you get the time.

I would certainly be interested. We keep talking about reducing carbon et al, and yet we keep knocking down older buildings, (the Church will be the first to go), who do they think they are kidding. Glasgow is the worst though, M8, Gorbals…..you name it, we’ll demolish it.
