CELTIC scouts have sent Neil Lennon glowing reports on Maccabi Tel Aviv’s impressive striker Yonatan Cohen.

A Hoops delegation watched the Israeli frontman in action for his team in this week’s 4-3 win over Maccabi Hafia, according to media reports

Cohen scored twice, including the stoppage-time winner, to send his side six points clear at the top of the table.

The versatile attacker operates as a back-up hitman, but can also play on both wings. The 23-year-old prospect has already won four full ca[s and is an Israeli international team-mate of Hoops double-act Nir Bitton and Hatem Abd Elhamed.

Cohen is likely to face Scotland in the Euro 2020 play-off game at Hampden on March 26 – and he could be a Celtic player by then.

Boss Lennon is eager to boost his attacking options for the second half of the campaign as he aims to take some of the scoring burden off Odsonne Edouard.

The Irishman has contacts in Israel – he bought Efe Ambrose FC Ashmod – and has also targeted midfielder Ismaila Soro, of Bnei Yehuda.

Owner Barak Abramov admitted: “It’s no secret Celtic are very interested in Ismaila.

“But at the same time I would stress we have yet to receive a formal offer from Celtic.”
