Target top of the table by Saturday

After the Bolingoli debacle broke, you will remember reading that Newco could be 11 points clear before Celtic kick a ball.  Sure, Celtic had two games in hand, but 11 points is an ominous stretch.  We need not have worried, as Livingston kept a clean sheet against Newco in the next game; their lead grew to 9 points, still a stretch, but one we could close by winning our games in hand.  That starts tonight, when we face the first catch-up game, against St Mirren in Paisley, with the tempting prospect of being able to go top of the table, on same games played, by Saturday.  Quite a turnaround from a potential 11 point deficit and credit to the way Celtic stuck to task during a turbulent August.

I hear St Mirren’s 3-0 defeat to Hibs did not reflect the balance of play.  It came immediately after they lost all three keepers to Covid isolation, while stand-in keeper Zlamal only met his new team-mates on the day of the game.  After starting the campaign with two wins in the opening three fixtures, the bottom half of the table has closed in on St Mirren.  Their three goals in the campaign so far earned two wins (Livi, Accies) and a draw (County), an extraordinary return for such a paltry tally.  No one has scored fewer in the league.

Fortified by the comfortable win in Dingwall, Neil Lennon will deploy the same formation tonight.  The most interesting call will be whether Olivier Ntcham retains his starting place ahead of Ryan Christie.  Squad management will also be a consideration, eight days from our Europa League qualifier.

“Physics is Fun – now there was a schoolbook!”

Not so much in our school.

We had a Physics teacher we called Merry Mac because he never smiled. He was one of those “burnt out” teachers who gave out the work and then disappeared into his cupboard space and emerged to pick up our jotters, shaking his head at how poor our answers were.

I made the mistake, one day, of knocking on his door and asking him a question about one of the many topics I didn’t understand. His verbatim reply was “Well, wouldn’t you like to know, young Mr. SFTB”

I only got through the first 12 pages of Stephen Hawkings because of attitudes like that.

Well that , and my own in-built ignorance.

Bolingoli to blame for Champions League exit?

Get a grip. Only one guy to blame for that one – again…..

    Saint stivs

I’m sitting stationary on the couch – I hope the world doesn’t slow down otherwise we’ll all fall off.

    Everything is relative CSC

  4. Saint Stivs 5:09 pm. Future Celt and former St Pats school captain and team mate of my brother Stevie Murray going in for the tackle.

  5. I remember last season we seemed to have key players injured almost every week while newco, with a smaller and less talented squad, managed to get through to January without many problems. This changed a bit as the season wore on.

This season already they have lost the likes of Arribo, Morelos and Jack with the latter being reported today to be out for 3-6 weeks with calf injury.

This at a time when they have, like us, a barrowload of games coming up.

As discussed earlier, squad mngmt is going to be key and it should be advantage to us.

Good luck to the Celts tonight.

Willie Maley took us to five first and six first. Never to be forgotten. Jock Stein took us to seven first, eight first and nine first. Never to be forgotten. Scott Brown and James Forrest are on the road to take us to ten.

Dingwall showed us all it takes to guarantee a smile,

Is watching Glasgow Celtic, putting on the style.

  7. SFTB – sounds par for the course for Physics teachers 😀

I’m sure it had a chapter on how to slow down from being stationary! I am defo going to use that.

  8. Before we ever get round to thinking about the Sevco game, we have to get by St. Mirren (A), 2 Home matches vs Livi and Hibs and an away trip to Perth The Ibrox mob have to visit Hibs and Motherwell before playing Ross County at Ibrox. Lots of football to get through before we can worry about them.

  9. I suppose it is almost a by-product of being a Celtic supporter in Scotland but I am seldom confident before games. Strangely, though, I am usually confident of winning the League.

If we do win tonight, 0-3 would be my prediction.

Hot smoked, ditto young fella. I’m a gibbering wreck with 2 hours to go. Mind you, this Jura malt is tasty.

  11. The selection I would LIKE to see tonight but certainly do not expect to:

    Forrest,Brown, McGregor,Christie,Elyounoussi.

Being the reasonable chap that I am,I would accept Ntcham for Christie and Ajeti for Klimala.

Hot smoked, 12 year old. Lovely.

Alright pal – get a Drambuie and ice in for me (double, double).

INIQUITOUSIV – aarrgghhhh – don’t torture yourself mate (or me, please!!!!) AAAAARRRRRRGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dear Doctor, I am a 62 year old Celtic fan who goes completely mental when the Green Machine plays. Doctor says relax and enjoy 😉

  14. Today’s official starting line up v St Mirren ……

Barkas; ElHamed, Duffy, Ajer, Taylor; Brown, McGregor, Christie, Forrest, Klimala, Edouard

Subs: Bain, Jullien , Frimpong ,Bitton, Soro, Turnbull, Ntcham, Ajeti, Elyounoussi

O.K. although I’m a sadist, but a nice guy, I won’t torture you. Dinamo Zagreb have equalized through an own goal but then again, after watching our 1-4-6 formation, they are playing with two strikers. Revolutionary, eh?

  16. How sorry do I feel for St. Mirren losing a potential £82K in lost TV payments?

Not as sorry as I felt for all the Celtic supporters who were serenaded throughout the years to Gypsies, tramps and thieves by their DJ.
