I really don’t care if journalists stick a microphone in Dermot Desmond’s face and ask him questions about tax, Dermot is big and bad enough to look after himself, the letter he issued to BBC’s Mark Daly confirms as much. What troubles me is the inordinate double standards employed by the Scottish media.
Graeme Souness and Walter Smith were recipients of an aggressive tax avoidance scheme, funded by Rangers before their liquidation, while employed as managers of clubs in England. Why are they not subjected to the microphone treatment when they walk into football stadiums, as they do every week?
Unlike anything Dermot has been asked about (no one disputes the legality of Dermot’s arrangement), the Rangers scheme was found in court to be in contravention of tax law.
Why Souness and Smith were in receipt of money from Rangers, while they were employed elsewhere, is a question studiously avoided by their many friends in the media. It is not just these two. More than 50 Rangers players received payments through the same mechanism, all struck down in court. Not a week goes by without some of these former players or managers making media appearances, several sit down with the very people who deemed want to talk about Dermot Desmond this week. None are called to account for their struck-down tax arrangements in the way Dermot was for his (legal) arrangements.
I feel we are in the territory of SNP’s Christine Grahame here. Celtic do nothing wrong so change the frame of reference to allow you to tangentially include Celtic. Then screaming “Celtic” and “tax” all over the front page for an issue that involves one of our shareholders, but has nothing to do with the club. It is sloppy, but unlike Ms Grahame’s intervention, no innocents will be locked up this time.

Scotland’s broadcaster in a desperate attempt to even things up shocker.
I mean who would have thunk that?
DD like all these other tax avoiders are a disgrace. Pay your taxes. Just pay them.
But as for BBC Scotland? It remains an institutionally racist organisation. It’s employment practices historically excluded Catholics and its sports department hasn’t changed.
The fact that the strange ebts paid to ex Hun managers have never been challenged tells you everything you need to know about institutionally racist Scotland.
Oh and once again why are Celtic leaving it to their support to complain?
Oh that’s right. It’s what they always do.
DALLAS DALLAS-really sad news mate,

May perpetual light shine on your Dad and may he rest in peace.
Dallas, Dallas. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your loved ones at the death of your father. Your post told us so much about him and of his love of so many of the great Celtic players of the past many of whom I saw myself in my youth.
You have beautiful memories him and they will forever remain with you in the years ahead. Really love never fades away, it exists forever.
May he rest in peace and God willing he is in the Eternal Paradise sharing stories, with Big Jock, wee Jinky and the rest of those who were his heroes,
the things your weans say,
quite funny .
the innocence of childhood, my own daughter asked me “have you and mum got a funeral plan ?”
i said my goodness thats not the thing you ask your parents, where on earth did you hear that ?
she said “its on tv, you need to plan your funeral years ahead to save money”
AH OK.
she is 28.
catching up and reading back, a wonderful post worth sharing for the nightshift and the antipodeans.

Your dad was in the classic ‘faithful’ mould.
Handled so many years in the doldrums, puncuated by the ecstacy of Empire Exhibition, VE Cup, Coronation Cup and Hampden in the Sun. Not forgetting the 54 double!
Thomsons (x3), McGrory, McDonald, Tully, Evans, Fernie and Peacock… The Lions, Danny , Kenny Paul McStay, Lubo and Henrik…
He was fully aware of the first 6 in a row and the tales of the 62 undefeated, his da’ and uncles whetted his appetite.
Meeting your gorgeous mum helped him forget (almost) the all the trials and tribulations of The 5 Sorrowful Mysteries.
His reward was his wonderful children and Lisbon and a hundred wee personal moments and memories of his heroes, playing in the mud and the wind, but mostly in the wonderful Paradise sunshine…and under those towering floodlights!
We will say all say Adieu to a Fine , Fine Celt on Friday… we will never forget him!
Hail Hail cousin…
my granda also said malky mcdonald was a great player, maybe the best he saw.
that malky

MacDonald didn’t fully break into the team on a regular basis until the departure of Willie Buchan to Blackpool in November 1937.[2] He made 34 appearances and scored 13 goals during the 1937–38 season,[5] helping the Bhoys to the league title and the Empire Exhibition Trophy.[6] MacDonald’s best season came in 1938–39, scoring 20 goals in 40 games and scoring a hat-trick in the Old Firm match on 10 September 1938.[5] The outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939 saw competitive football suspended for the duration of the war, but MacDonald remained with Celtic, making 216 appearances and scoring 18 goals before the cessation of hostilities in May 1945.[5] MacDonald departed Celtic after the war, having made 171 competitive appearances and scored 40 goals during his time with the club.[5] He played in every position bar goalkeeper during his years at Celtic Park.[2]

I grew up with Dallas and knew his family through Corpus Christi at mass. The words his big cousin Saltires posted is bang on.
Lovely family. God bless them.
Dallas Dallas,
my condolences for the loss of your dad,
prayer said for you and your family
Dallas,
Condolences on the loss of your dad. We’ve never met but hearing about his passing made me think about how lucky I was.
Your story is similar to mine. My first time in Paradise was when we brought the big cup back. I was 2 and can’t remember much if anything about it. But thanks to my dad I was there and was part of it.
He also loved Willie Fernie and went on to love many others with Lubo up there as one of his latter favourites.
The difference in our stories is that I still get to sit beside my dad every home game. He is almost 80 and never misses a game, even when I can’t make it. He gets the train or bus, goes to St Michael’s for the vigil and gets himself home.
I can’t pretend to understand what you’re feeling at the moment, but I’m dreading the day when I might have to sit at Paradise without my dad beside me. He was/is my inspiration for all things Celtic and lots of other things in life as I’m sure your dad was to you.
I just don’t tell him that often enough, although I guess he knows.
I don’t pray as much as I should but my next one will be for you, your dad and your family.
off to bed. a wee interesting thing.

Part One of A fascinating film from 1971 predicting what Glasgow would be like in 1980….How wrong they were!
Featuring the demolition of the tenements, the building of new houses and shopping centres an Old Firm game from 1971 with Jinky Johnstone and Willie Henderson, the Burrell collection at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and the plans for a new building in Pollok park. Also includes the opening of the Kingston Bridge in 1970. There is lots more in this remarkable old film.

We are the same age. My late father took my cousin to see the European cup celebrations in Paradise on 26/5/1967. I was a week short of my 2nd birthday. My mammy and I never really forgave him for saying I was too young to take. :)

Trust me D you weren’t ‘bursting my ears’ in the slightest, you helped soothe my annoyance at not being able to purchase one of the six eligible tickets online! :-)
I hope you didn’t mind my post as I deliberately omitted any CQN moniker.
God Bless and stay strong.

My sincere condolences on your sad loss it is a tough time no matter what age.
My own Dads birthday would be on Saturday he was born 11/11/1911 , And passed on 26 years ago he came over from Donegal in the 30,s and worked on farms all his life other than having a drink he had no hobbies and worked 7 days a week he never saw Celtic till after he retired but all 5 of his sons were Celtic daft. He told me tales of working in rough places sleeping in barns on straw beds and no running water, and we think we had it rough ,I recently had my loft insulated and while emptying the attic found a shoe box with all his Mass cards and condolences from a lot of people ,it was a comfort to read them and see how well thought of my old man was he had over 600 hundred people at his funeral not bad for a farm labourer who treated people kindly all his life. I am thinking of my dad tonight. He was Robert. His favourite fitba players were all named Robert. Collins,Evans,Murdoch and Auld.
DD
So glad I was there despite the fact I cant really remember.
My old man was good at that though. Took me to see his idol, Perry Como, at the Kelvin Hall when I was 9.
Most of my mates think that was cruel lol, but me, as I get older and appreciate how good Perry Como was in his day, I’m glad I was there.

Hi. Just in so haven’t checked back. Attended the Scottish Football Supporters Association session at Firhill to present the findings of the survey completed by over 16,000 fans – http://www.scottishfsa.org . I heard it was discussed on BBC Scotland phone-in where Broadfoot seems to have tried to dismiss is as irrelevant.
Can anyone tell whether there has been any comment on the survey on CQN tonight? Thanks.
TIMGREEN
It hasn’t. Broadfoot did try to dismiss it and McIntyre got to the it was mostly Celtic supporters that voted and they have an agenda before the discussion ended.
Talking of ‘out of the mouths of babies’… I opened the £1200 extra sliding roof on the new car to let my 4 year old grandaughter see the plane landing overhead at Prestwick airport better only to be asked ‘Papa, when are you going to get a proper roof for your car like we have?’
Timgreen,
have read some of tonights posts,
not seen any comment on the survey findings

Jock is her favourite ever man. She still says that. He took her team fae the 40s 50s and early 60s to the top in Europe. The fact we won the European Cup on the feast of Corpus Christi, her parish, was special to her forever.

Survey says no trust in authority.
It is a Celtic thing. Say the hun loonies who think the same but love cap doffing to their seniors in authority. Mentalists
