Tax and development

POAK can offer Greg Taylor a three year contract, which, for Greek incentives to attract foreign labour, half of which is exempt from income tax.  The other half would be subject to a top rate 3% less than the top rate in Scotland.  His net earnings there are likely to be higher than what’s on offer on Scotland.

It’s clear the player world rather stay at Celtic, or he would already have signed elsewhere. It’s also clear Celtic would rather he stay. But every asset has a monetary value and every squad place is important.

I believe back up players should have their best years ahead of them.  We develop young talent or we regress.

  1. Respect for Pep G for at least raising the topic of Gaza at Manchester University today.

So many folks in the public eye do nothing and say nothing.

So many of the rest of us moan on line but do very little.

Writing to my MP 3 x and a couple of marches is my own personal effort which is utterly pathetic when we are seeing what we are seeing and accepting it.

Ange Postecoglou is reportedly in advanced negotiations to become the next manager of the Italy national team, following the sacking of Luciano Spalletti.

    Allegedly CSC

  3. Maybe someone could clarify.

If you take a walk around Celtic Park, how the feck can you get into the boardroom and the surrounds ?.

Ive never been able to unless invited by the high and mighty !.

  4. I don’t think that tax is a major reason for locating. Some countries have 0% income tax. Taylor has wanted to go for a while so its no surprise he has gone.

Interestingly, PAOK have a similar background as Celtic in that they were founded by migrants to Greece. PAOK was formed by people from Constantinoble who were expelled from the city after the Greek/Turkey war when the city became Istanbul. The former team Pera was the original club and became PAOK after their exile. Their original emblem was a 4 leaf clover.

    Good Morning Celts…

The Blogger Formerly Known As GM – 11:25 pm,

Yes, if fholk dont agree with your opinion, they have to be idiots, dont they!?

Read your posts long enough to know your m.o.

Another smartest ghuy in the room, that can’t be questioned.

Like I’ve said to BURNLEY78, your ways and means are known to me.

    Perception is everything isn’t it?

Don’t concern yourself about the facts or a balanced argument.

    Just up the fear…

Anyone that questions you, play the man…

The fact is their is nothing mind boggling here.

There are no BR&CO player transfer values tanking.

For the first time in a generation we have a proper recruitment strategy.

We lost a quality, experienced GK in Joe Hart, we replaced him with equivalence in Kasper Schmeichel and future proofed the position with Sinisalo.

We lost our most valuable player in Matt O’Riley, we replaced him with Arne Engels and Paulo Bernardo…

The old model, even the “successes”, did we get enough game time from those players, did we get enough money in the transfer market?

Who did we replace VVD with?

Who did we replace Victor Wanyama with?

Who did we replace Moussa Dembele with?

Who did we replace KT with?

    Ecetra, ecetra, etc…

That’s where the risk lies, not having a joined up recruitment strategy.

Using player trading as a revenue stream and only as a revenue stream, is the huge risk.

That “fab list”, who was paying those players? Who was coaching those players? Who was conditioning those players?

How much time and resources went into that?

Time and resources the Club could ill afford.*

Now we are much more streamlined operation, each of the players we signed, contributed to a succesfulseason.

Since the debacle of ten in a row, we have seen consistent improvement.

We are seeing the value of a real recruitment policy in that regard.

*All that swept under the carpet as the Board back slapped each other over their great moneyball enterprise.

    Hail Hail

    ………………………

An excellent and well balanced post. Too many fans demand instant success without looking at the background of players.

Engels, 21. Age 19 leaves Belgium for Germany. Different language, different country. Age 20, leaves Germany for Scotland. Very different language. Different culture. Plays for huge team with 60k fans. Plays in CL for first time and acquits himself well both domestically and in Europe. Barring injury, I’m very confident he will kick on next season.

Idah. Had already paid his transfer fee during loan period. He won both the League and the Scottish Cup for us. Two goals at Hibs when we were rotten. Goal against Huns in 3-3 draw at Obrox to put us 3-2 ahead when the Huns’ tails were up. Two goals at Motherwell when we were 1-0 down late in the game and couldn’t buy a goal. The early goal at Kilmarnock to settle us in the final game when we wrapped up the League. As well as the never-to-be-forgotten winner in the dying minutes of the Scottish Cup Final when he came on with 11 minutes to go. Those goals earned us more than his transfer fee. Last season he also scored 21 goals when he wasn’t a regular starter. My observations of how he can improve further is that he needs to make more use of his physique and work on his first touch.

Trusty is the only one I have doubts about and I hope to be proved wrong. It was his first season and therefore he deserves a chance too considering the new country, new baby and other changes in his circumstances. He was too easily rag dolled by big, physical players for my liking and seemed to have an issue with losing his balance and falling over while not under any pressure. I hope he comes back with a ‘more robust’ approach.

I can’t wait for the new season.

    ………………….

AEK Athens also have a similar history. Formed by immigrants from Constantinople. I think the ‘K’ in their name stands for Konstantinople. Probably with PAOK as well.

  7. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

    Welcome home Kieran.

Looking forward to seeing you in the hoops again.

  8. Celtic are reportedly poised to sign Greenock Morton starlet Isaac English.

The 17-year-old was a shining light for the Ton’s U18 side that won the Club Academy Scotland Performance League title last season.

English has yet to make his senior bow for Morton but has been brought up to train with the first team by boss Dougie Imrie.

I went to Barony Street for a year and would have to say that that picture has similarities but it is not quite how I remember the school.

It is the same building, that view is from the back of it. Townhead is completely change now. I went back a few uears ago and couldn’t find Parson St!

  12. Read an article recently that stated around 20% of footballers take nicotine patches……sincerely hope that’s not the case with us!

Used to cringe when cameras panned onto Lenny and he was shoveling one into his mouth!!

It’s easy to get in and have a look around when you know how lol.

Seriously though most of what I saw was first hand today but some based on last 3 or 4 months the of season.

  15. i was up barrowfield this afternoon for a look see.

new enclosure wall and railngs around freshly lined car park around the csa and very nice it is to.

the access road to the rear needs work but it is better thab before just.

the indoor facilty looks bigger now complete but branding still to be done.

that london road cycle path. not a single person using it. what a waste.

Celtic park itself was empty. no workies that i saw

  16. TOSB

I wish I could be as positive about us getting a decent return on Engels or Idah.

I also wish I could be as positive as you about our player trading strategy.

I really wish I saw anything in the past 2 seasons which excited me more than the 2 previous.

Sadly I believe we are weaker now than 3.5 seasons ago in squad and management and even in trophies won comparing the 2.

As I said the stadium is also a decaying mess.

Pleased that as you are a paying supporter you are happy with how it is going. It would be boring if we all saw it the same.

I see Engels not improving. Idah similar. I compare Engels to Raskin who they bought for a fraction and one has now got into the Belgian squad. The other is no longer in the Belgian squad. I predict they will make £7m profit on their guy for a low investment. We will not make that for a much bigger stake on our guy. Similar ages.

I didnt know about AEK Athens also being Constantinoble immigrants like PAOK. Youre also right that the K in the names is the Greek word for Constantinoble.

After the Greek/Turkish War there was population swaps where ethnic Greeks and Turks swapped countries. 1.2 million Greeks and 0.5 million turks were resettled.

I wonder how common this is as there have been lots of shifting populations throughout Europe. Türkgücü Munich is in the German tier 3 is one. There are also Greek and Yugoslavian named teams in Australia

  18. B78

Raskin was out of contract in the Summer so his fee in the January would have been low, but he’s have got a nice signing on bonus and a decent wage

Next Summer he’ll be 25 and have one year left on his contract so if they want a decent fee he’ll need to be sold now. It’s a big test of how serious the new owners are about making a go of a trading model

Theres plenty of time for Arne, he’ll go for a bigger fee, possibly even more profit. Nothing like the amounts Brendan talked about for 7/8m signings though

  19. HS and Celt55

I used to get lunch and eat it in the back room of a dairy further along Parson Street towards Castle Street with a few others? Were you guys in there?

  20. Marco Silva said “He needs more senior football in his legs to see how he can adapt, perform. He’s got the profile that I like. When he has a chance, he can punish the opposition. I can see the talent, in a position that is very difficult to play in the Premier League. Probably if you play another striker by his side … you will take the best from him. Let’s hope we can help him to be ready for the Premier League.”

    https://www.glasgowworld.com/sport/football/celtic/celtic-callum-osmand-fulham-transfer-news-marco-silva-5170139

So if Callum Osmand is played with another striker by his side, you’ll take the best from him?

Is this a hint that we’re getting rid of the 4 wingers per game and hardly any crosses bunkum?

    Hope so.

  21. Sargassosea

Aye, I remember it. We used to go to the chip shop in Castle St (Hilley’s I think) next door to the Casino picture house.
