Taxed limbs and minds

248

I looked up at the clock, 80 minutes.  The closing moments would hold a disproportionate weight on our season.  After a couple of early chances, Motherwell did not cause Joe Hart any difficulty, but Celtic, unable to retain possession, could do no more than clear their lines and wait for the next wave of attack as yesterday’s games closed.

Winning leagues is all about getting the job done, not being a hard luck story.  Celtic, without a striker throughout the game, and weakened further through injury during it, won the three points, our fourth single goal victory in five league outings.  That freewheeling performance at Tannadice a week ago was the exception.

There is a hidden problem when games are so tight; players need to compete to the last kick.  This will drain energy further for a squad, with all the European games, internationals and unmatched ability to reach cup finals, already plays more football than any other in the game.  Limbs and minds are taxed.

My worry is not for the big games.  Adrenaline will pump in bucketfuls at Hampden and against Newco.  Not so much at Dingwall, Paisley or Perth.

As for the Europa Conference draw: anyone but Tottenham, please.  They were in the Champions League Final two years ago and have not slipped into obscurity that quickly.

  1. It’s now down to the medical science team to determine when a player is fit to return to action,

    does that apply to JF.

It’s now down to the medical science team to determine when a player is fit to return to action,

    “does that apply to JF.”

Yes, of course, doesn’t stop a player from picking up an injury, if only eh?

    por cierto.

  3. On the protests. The protestors (not just the GB) aren’t asking anyone else to stay silent and they’re not slating other Celtic fans. Even if you don’t agree with it, why would you slate them for doing something the majority of the fans at home games do?

  4. St. Stivs,

Thanks for that pic, Great Memories.

I was a huge Cork Hibs fan, Home & Away Supporter for many years,

Had got married a few weeks before the game and was just back from my Honeymoon.

  5. It is shocking to see how James Forrest’s form has deteriorated in recent years. The number of easy chances he has failed to convert is frightening. His fresh air shot at Tannadice was embarrassing and his glaring open goal miss in Midtylland cost us a potential CL spot.

James, to my mind, is no longer Celtic class and to be honest, my heart sinks every time his name appears on the team sheet.

He came on in the semi final and won the game for us. I think he was brought back to early. Never looked right.

Even the 50 or so Kano Foundation kids were singing their wee hearts out at one point. But Sportscene didn’t show that so it didn’t happen.

I was more talking about the chanting at the game. Slagging people for not supporting the team by not supporting the team. I don’t get the anger against the protestors.

Twice in your comment on Jullien you mention “history” and learning from it.

Could you elaborate on what history you are referring

    —–

For one, a certain Derk Boernagter who we signed for £ millions.

Played us for years then accused the Celtic medical staff of ending his career.

corkie, a picture has surfaced of that cork hibs game in 71, cracker,

Was at that match. CQN connection – ToffeeTim’s brother-in-law, John Lawson, would’ve played in that match for Hibs.

  11. What we can definitely say about the GB is that their support for the team is not unconditional. What that means is that under certain conditions they will not support the team.

Now we know what the current conditions are, what future conditions will there be?

The GB are flexing their muscles. We all know that they can cost the club hundreds of thousands of Euros in fines. We all know that they can jeopardise our participation in UEFA competitions. We all know what is happening right now when the team needs as much support as it can get. What we don’t know is when they will make another stand and what the subject matter may be.

    “With friends like that…….. “

  12. Guys,

The GB by their own admission are Ultras

Silence is not part of the Ultra mantra.

Subsequently you cannot compare them to the average Joe Bloggs who attend games.

    The case for Mr Higgins

    First up

I have no connection or sympathy or even respect for Mr Higgins – I do not know him.

All I know is, he worked for The Glasgow Police and carried out his duty possibly (according to most on here) too passionately – he became (and seems still is) the face of the enemy

In terms of inside knowledge on what’s going on in Glasgow he probably has a few thoughts and some inside info. I assume this is what Celtic see in him. He will also understand the inner workings of the Police making sure Celtic were not “patted on the head and told to move along” nothing to see here

He could prove to be a benefit

I have not seen his job description – but I assume, if he is being employed by Celtic, his job will be to improve our safety and experience following Celtic. After all he will be working on our side.

Celtic obviously feel the need to employ someone with a bit of grit

I do not know why – possibly the Peter Lawwell attack

It could be other issues have happened to Celtic staff we are not aware of

Is it the resurgence of away support songbook (certainly not to my liking)

It’s a delicate position for Celtic

Mr Higgins was the enforcer of the decision taken by Holyrood

He did not load the gun – but he did pull the trigger (under orders off course)

If not him it will be someone else

    My view

Give him a job – review after a year

If he takes a job at Celtic he will need to prove himself big style – it could work in our favour

    Only an opinion

Can I ask some of the Bhoys and Ghirls do The Emirates allow some Celtic Supporters to park there cars on match days.

Tomboy I would usually(pre covid)meet friends in Emirates cafe.i don’t think it has reopened.

Since onset of covid it is only coaches allowed into car park.dont think is available for ordinary cars.you could park coming in from the Dalmarnock/springfield Rd side and park on streets that lead to Emirates but it is tight.hope that helps.

Maybe bIg Bobo? You know I cant remember what happened there, he went from being the most feared defender in the SPL to what? Some sort of contractual dispute that finished his career with Celtic. How on earth do we get in to these crazy fankles? He was a great player for us , mind you, he blew it in Seville.

there is no case for HIGGINS.

There is plenty of evidence against.

Carrying out orders is one thing, over zealous enforcement to the point of harrassing young men with their families AND WRONGLY JAILING THEM, with TRUMPTED up charges, is an abuse of power.

VAST Majority of which were laughed out of court.

    And it continues today.

Recently I have been around the North Curve at haltime to meet cousins, when going outside with the vaxxersa and smokers the level of policing and intimidation has to be seen to be comprehended.

I got filmed, becaue I was at the barrier, actually looking at the plaque of the original celtic park, but being that close was enough for me to get filmed.

I am 55, a company director, closer to retirement than being an agitator.

How must youths feel for supporting their team the way they want to .

    Ps,

In my opinion, the appointment would be about board power over the Ultras and factions, the board see them as agitators.

    And for the umpteenth time.

    The protest are aligned between

    THE CELTIC TRUST

    THE NORTH CURVE COLLECTIVE

    THE BHOYS

    CELTIC SHARED

And signatories of 200+ celtic supporters clubs FROM ALL 3 aSSOCIATIONS, Including many irish clubs, AND NORTH AMERICA.

that anyone thinks this guy has some unique expertise that Celtic need , what is it ?

Controlling the youth and dissidents. that is it.

He has insider Knowledge of who the groups leaders are, and he would be placed in power.

The Board have stepped too far.

The depth of feeling is huge, many thousands wont be attending if that appointment goes through.

That there is anyone on here mis-representing what is happening is beyod the pail.

Wait till you see what the ghost of christmas past brings.

To the hierarchy it was like the spy who came in from the cold :)

  23. Created loads of chances but managed to hang on and scrape a hard earned win on Sunday and another clean sheet although info is scarce with regard to the performances of individual players.

Giovanni Van Bronchorst seems to have seemlessy settled into his new job at Rangers despite the early setback against Hibs. Checking on his quite imressive CV which includes Cup and Championship titles in the SPL and EPL wih Arsenal and in Holland with Feyenoord makes you wonder how they managed to snare this guy to the club with experience at the highest level. Ange will have his work cut out in the coming months in the title race. Also strange that there are no transfer rumours regarding Newco’s better players unlike our own Hoops.

“What we can definitely say about the GB is that their support for the team is not unconditional. What that means is that under certain conditions they will not support the team.”

No. They still support the team. They’re at the games. Using the seasons books they bought to be there. But just like many other Celtic fans at these games the GB are currently not chanting or singing. Are you saying that any & all Celtic supporters at the games who decide not to sing or chant are not supporting the team? Are you saying that these fans’ support is also not unconditional? Or are you holding the GB to different standards than those you apply to non-GB Celtic fans?

“Now we know what the current conditions are, what future conditions will there be?”

The GB, like all fans, are entitled to choose whether to sing & chant. They are allowed to do so for whatever reasons they wish. Who appointed you head of the Thought Police?

“The GB are flexing their muscles. We all know that they can cost the club hundreds of thousands of Euros in fines.”

We also know that they have garnered the club worldwide attention, praise & respect. And that the club has profited from selling memorabilia, etc of their displays.

“We all know that they can jeopardise our participation in UEFA competitions.”

When has the GB ended our participation in any competition?

“We all know what is happening right now when the team needs as much support as it can get.”

The GB members are still at the games. Still supporting the team. Only quietly for the time being, just like many, many other Celtic fans. Where is your post bad-mouthing them?

“What we don’t know is when they will make another stand and what the subject matter may be.”

You’re right. We don’t. Nor do we have any right to.

  29. Very noticeable watching the Bets game last week the GB support for the team was sorely missed despite the match being an edge- of- the- seat-thriller. Needs sorting with the season coming up to a vital stage.
