Taxed limbs and minds

248

I looked up at the clock, 80 minutes.  The closing moments would hold a disproportionate weight on our season.  After a couple of early chances, Motherwell did not cause Joe Hart any difficulty, but Celtic, unable to retain possession, could do no more than clear their lines and wait for the next wave of attack as yesterday’s games closed.

Winning leagues is all about getting the job done, not being a hard luck story.  Celtic, without a striker throughout the game, and weakened further through injury during it, won the three points, our fourth single goal victory in five league outings.  That freewheeling performance at Tannadice a week ago was the exception.

There is a hidden problem when games are so tight; players need to compete to the last kick.  This will drain energy further for a squad, with all the European games, internationals and unmatched ability to reach cup finals, already plays more football than any other in the game.  Limbs and minds are taxed.

My worry is not for the big games.  Adrenaline will pump in bucketfuls at Hampden and against Newco.  Not so much at Dingwall, Paisley or Perth.

As for the Europa Conference draw: anyone but Tottenham, please.  They were in the Champions League Final two years ago and have not slipped into obscurity that quickly.

  1. We may be heading for lockdown & shutdown of the football season. What then?

‘Super December’ looks like being cut short and the likely spread through clubs will mean ‘closed doors’ matches will not be an option.

If the country is ‘hamstrung’, then football must not be an ‘engineered’ exception.

I think they will keep sport going in some form. Its a distraction for the masses while they systematically strip away our rights and freedoms.

I think the risk is as much from fixture havoc due to players being infected as from government restrictions.

Sturgeon’s making an announcement later today, though that might just be about the booster jabs.

I suspect there will be some earnest discussions going on about students returning home for Christmas.

  4. Just popped in to wish a Happy Birthday to my good friend Hot Smoked.

An absolute Gentleman & a great Tim.

  5. lets all do the huddle on

i think today’s announcement will be about much more than an update to the booster rollout

That will definitely be a part of it

i also expect some sort of extension to when and where the vaccine passport is needed, which is probably fair enough in my opinion

i expect there to be some sort of return to restrictions of indoor gaffs like restaurants and pubs, maybe a return to table-service only, i dont like that but i guess it may also be fair enough

i dont think they will stop us going to the games, but will they stop or restrict hospitality in the grounds?

they said they wont shut the schools, thats just political bollocks, theres only 1 week to go and if i remember my school days then we were doing very little the last few days before the holidays. Given the way having thousands of weans going to school together and then going back out into the local community and their homes at 4 oclock must be a major way the virus is spread, then not closing the schools just negates any other restrictions they bring in, all for political reasons which isnt acceptable

as for restricting the number of households that can mix in private homes? they can piss off, there’s only 1 person that decides who is or isnt allowed in my house, and when they can turn up, and that is me.

so yes to vaccines, boosters, vaccine passports, track and trace, regular testing

no to turning the country into North Korea
