Taxpayers do not sponsor lazy gossips

I know what you were thinking; Zenden, like Ljungberg, but older.  We need experience in the squad but with Commons, Ledley, Samaras and McCourt all able to stake a claim for the left midfield position this is the last place we need to bring in a 35-year-old.  Best of luck to the player but I’m pleased he has left Glasgow.

Today’s Sun report that a senior policeman witnessed a crime being committed but instead of doing what he is paid to do, he reported the incident to Uefa.  You have to wonder about the veracity of the crime.  The officer will do well to explain his actions if they amount to anything more than a few lines in a newspaper.

We are all partisan in this city but Justice is blind to such emotions and taxpayers (that’s you and me) do not sponsor lazy gossips.

  1. So the police have taken sides then? Presumably they have never reported the huns to UEFA through all their singing? Celtic FC should go after this development with gusto – but being the gutless wonders they are they wont.

There will have been no sectarian singing – and this is a malicious act.

At the same time we have Kenny McAskill casually dismissing allegations of anti-catholicism from the SNP MSP in charge of developing the new sectarian laws. An MSP who had previously said the law was designed to even things up. Allegations of this kind are serious – but as Mr McAskill hasnt heard her say anything anti-catholic then thats ok then. Imagine if that would have been allegations of racism? The press are largely ignoring what could be a very big story – I wonder why.

And the SNP government push ahead with a law which we have no way of understanding whats illegal – because the police wont tell us whats illegal.

Like James Forrest I am close to having had enough in Scotland – the signs are incredibly sinister and we dont have any leaders at our club willing to tackle these developments.

Its open season on Celtic fans – not because we are doing anything illegal – they just want to make our existence illegal.

re the “new” laws and anti-catholic sentiment

    spot on sir

i was ranting this morning to the Mrs re this

she fears that my atipathy towards the current SNP position is polarising my thoughts on this matter and is causing mt to be a reactionary bigot

the law doesn`t need amended it just needs to be enforced

my grandmother was a lady of few words …however she was very pointed in her comments at times

she referred to te SNP as convenators ……….on present evidence she was far from wrong

i find the whole situation depressing and infuriating in equal measure

  3. Neg anon

cast your mind back to the LC final

and consider the comments of Mcaskill and the Strathclyde CC…..relentless sectarion singing by the hun was met with praise for a wonderful sporting spectacle

imo …their colours were nailed firmly to the mast that day

applogies for jumping into your posts… we all probably (me definately) have those feelingsa from time to time, and indeed all of what youve said is so true and its a very sad sad state we live in. The SNP are slowly rewinding the clock and we are going to end in up in a bigger mess than we are the now. What worries me is that Alex Salmond is from the NE, Living up here we assume to be away from it all… but we’re not and its all bubbling away nicely.

Key comment from some one else earlier: you cannot and should not run away from it. Do that and you have consigned all who are left to persecution. We have to stay and fight for whats right.

I had an arguement with my mum and dad the other day about why footballers should have the right to bless themselves in scotland, glasgow, the west end particularly. I was so shocked that their views (after 60yrs of persecution) are that we need to stop all that because the Rangers fans cant tolerate it. My old man even compared the sign of the cross to gazzas flute playing antics…. I had to end the conversation after that. And this is coming from 2 highly educated, glasgow catholics, who have a real dislike for the views of the other side… it made me question if the right thing to do is to supress all of that. Of course thats a rediculus thing to even contemplate. But the fact that they can even think like that shows us just exactly what we are up against. I fear a large proportion of our population would have the same views, and will go along with it all in ignorance. What next? No black players at Ipox in case that offends them? I am deeply concerned about this.

The maximum penalty is relegation to the Third Division – that is the established precedent.

  15. if the police, as i undrstand it, are there to keep law and order , on behalf of the said government.

by this senior policemans action would this not (or could not)be construed as a political act?

am i right that this is outlawed, or against fifa, euefa rules?

i.e. governments are not allowed to get involved with or against clubs.

    something like that.

  16. I served in the Police Force, and I can assure you all that it is rotten to the core with masonic face fit etc etc etc. Not really a place for little Timmy if he or she is looking for an accellerated promotion path. To be fair though things have improved a lot since my day but it is still indemic.

I know you are pretty passionately opposed to the SNP and independence and I enjoy reading your arguments with other bloggers. I often find myself agreeing with you about a lot of things. I think we would for example, share a leftist view of the world and from what I read, probably an Irish Republican view as well.

But I disagree with you on the issue of Scottish Independence and it is nothing to do with ‘Tartan Glasses’ (liked that!)

How do you explain all of the things I commented on happening within the UK? What protection has being part of the UK offered Scots-Irish people?

I might be wrong in this but you equate ndependence with the SNP being in power. You make valid points about their history (I think they need to deal with that by way of public apology for misdeeds past) but from what I can see and from what my family tell me the SNP has been pretty decent for ordinary people in terms of providing free third level education and so on while the ‘leftist’ labour party has danced to the Neo Liberal tune that everyone must pay. Free prescriptions would be regarded in the USA as some kind of attempt to implement Communism, it would not have happened under a New Labour led UK government or indeed Scottish Assembly dancing to a Westminster tune.

I have long suspected that an independent Scottish Labour Party would move left and win back the ground lost to the SNP. The SNP could actually be badly damamged post independence. Their relevance would be questioned. Their raison d’etre would be gone. I don’t think independence = SNP. I think you would have the foundations of a decent little country.

I know of some excellent links being forged between Highland Scots Gaels and the NAtive Irish over here through our shared musical and cultural history. Have a look at BBC Alba. I think there is hope.

The senior police officer who reported the alleged offence to the UEFA delegate has to be named.

He has to be asked why if an offence took place it was not acted upon by the police on the night in question.

He also should be made to disclose if he has any links to the freemasons, the orange order or rangers fc.

CELTIC PLAN TO CASH IN IF RANGERS GO BUST – Exclusive

CELTIC are believed to be drawing up plans to push for the maximum punishment for Rangers, should the Ibrox club go into administration.

According to a well placed mole, Celtic are already looking at a short list of the best legal brains in Britain to call in for the finest legal advice that money can buy.

That could even see Celtic’s next board meeting advised as to just how hard a line they can try and push the Scottish Premier League into taking against Rangers should the worst scenario unfold.

We have already seen the idea of the SPL’s statutory 10 point penalty being increased to a swingeing 25 points. Clearly Celtic chief executive, Peter Lawwell does not believe a mere ten point penalty would be sure of stopping Rangers winning the title again.

But, and this is what my mole, who has a senior role in Scottish football, has been hearing, Lawwell won’t stop there if he can get away with it.

It is believed that inside Parkhead a plan is being hatched to try and land Rangers with a 25 point penalty immediately – PLUS another 25 points at the start of next season…

And ten a THIRD 25point penalty at the start of season 2013-14!

Perhaps Lawwell believes those demands would put him in the driving seat in any negotiations and that he would hold out for an immediate 25point deduction, followed by, perhaps 20 pints the second season and around 15 for the third.

Such a punishment would put Rangers out of the title race for three seasons, opening the door to Europe and the money to be made there, for Celtic.

It is unlikely Rangers would be able to recover from such a heavy punishment for many years. Perhaps a decade may pass before Rangers could become champions again.

To bulldoze any such secret scheme through, the first thing Celtic must be sure of is their legal ground. Then they have to canvas votes from the SPL Board, and may find that the matter is put before all member clubs.

Some clubs may see the chance of finishing runners up and winning a shot at Europe’s riches should Rangers be handicapped, and be tempted. Others, possibly Hearts under the present regime, may relish the chance to do damage to one half of the Old Firm.

Saner heads though will surely prevail. For a start, and at a basic level, Rangers supporters would take their revenge by refusing to go to away games, thus depriving such as Killie, St Mirren, St Johnstone and Motherwell of much needed cash through the turnstiles.

But on a more important financial level, without a proper title tussle between the Old Firm, it is doubtful if Sky and ESPN would be interested in signing any new broadcast deal.

In fact, the small print of the current contracts is not known, and who knows what legal minefield may lurk in that direction should Celtic go ahead with what I am told they are planning.

Which is why soon – perhaps even the next time it meets – the Celtic board could be getting the very best and most expensive legal advice the club can buy.

However, what even the best QC in the land will probably not warn them about, is the depth of bad feeling that would exist between the two clubs for ever more.

Rangers would vow revenge, however long it took.

Those who hold the temporary stewardship of Celtic, and that means the man whose opinion really matters, chief executive, Peter Lawwell, would do well to remember that.

Even though he may be confident he will not be around in a seat of power by the time Rangers get the opportunity for vengeance. He may not be there, but Celtic will still be there to suffer the consequences of any action taken against Rangers now, which is interpreted as being vindictive.

CHRISTINE GRAHAME AND THE OFFENSIVE WHITE POPPY

OFF all the many offensive things broadcast by the BBC on Reporting Scotland, few have been more repulsive than the sight of the Scottish National Party’s Christine Grahame wearing a WHITE poppy.

For self serving and totally irrelevant gesture politics – is it Mrs or Miss? – Grahame is in a league of her own. Yet this plastic patriot, this bogus poseur of a politician, is the convener of the Scottish Parliament’s Justice Committee, an extremely important and influential body, responsible for dealing with, and scrutinising, highly complex matters.

Yet mrs or miss Graham is incapable of understanding just how superfluous the poseur’s poppy, in the colour of the flag of surrender, actually is.

That’s right – superfluous –not offensive.

It does not offend me. Though I am offended by the stupidity of anyone wearing one. As well as being slightly worried that someone who holds such a powerful political position as mrs –or is it miss? – Grahame should be so stupid..

It was something I explained to an old pal a few years ago. Former Celtic View editor, Andrew H Smith, who now writes for the Scotsman and Scotland on Sunday, is a decent enough cove. I’ve known and liked his eccentricities for 20 years or so. H, as he is known with affection, and I certainly do not share a dress sense, but, in our own ways, we are both mavericks.

However, the reasons he gave me for preferring the white poppy to the traditional red one, just do not hold up.

According to H, and probably mrs or miss, Graham, is that the white poppy is a symbol of peace. As I asked H, just what does he think the red poppy is a symbol of?

For me, it is the symbol of the peaceful freedom men died to give me. The redness signifies the blood spilt to gain and protect our freedoms, and the sorrow of the price paid, coupled with the fervent hope no more blood be spilt. No more lives lost. That is the hope the red poppy is a symbol off.

Though, of course, human nature, being what it is, it is a forlorn hope. Man’s inhumanity to man will sadly always leave countless thousands mourning.

H, in his own thrawn way, was having none of it. We parted, as we almost always do, agreeing to disagree and respecting each other’s right to hold and air contrary views. The very right we would not have had the men the red poppy remembers not made the ultimate sacrifice.

But H, like me, is only a humble hack. Mrs, or miss Grahame is a tribune of the people. Someone who benefits financially from the democracy, those the poppy remembers, died to protect and preserve.

She appears to revel in the wearing of a white poppy. She gives the impression of taking pride it .

Now I am well aware there are some misguided souls – Odious Creep according to his twitterings – who believe the poppy should be worn with pride.

    It should not!

When I don my poppy I feel humble. Humility at how many extraordinary things were done by so many ordinary people in order that my generation be free. I also feel an overwhelming surge of gratitude as I give all too little for those who gave so very much.

Humility and gratitude. That is what to think and feel. Pride is for another day.

Mind you, I don’t believe mrs – or is it miss?- Christine Grahame would understand that, as she preens herself and her white poppy for BBC Scotland’s cameras.

    AND…..

WE have been hearing plenty from the Scotland camp about the poppy row with FIFA … but only now, after the SFA shamefully stood on the sidelines

and let the English do Scotland’s fighting.

Even Craig Levein has joined in with a personal and poignant story explaining why the poppy means so much to him.

What a pity Levein did not speak out when the fight with FIFA was still going on.

However, the Scotland manager appears to be completely in tune with his bosses at Stewart Regan’s SFA, one of whom is of course the ever more powerful Celtic chief executive, Peter Lawwell
