TAYLOR IN LIMBO

GREG TAYLOR was an unused substitute as PAOK came back from a goal down to overcome Olympiacos 2-1 in the Super League at the weekend.

The defender, who will celebrate his 28th birthday next month, quit Celtic at the end of the season after the champions sealed the deal to bring back former fans’ favourite Kieran Tierney following his six-year absence at Arsenal.

Taylor left at the completion of his contract in the pursuit of regular first-team game-time, but not everything has gone according to plan.

The defender has played in only half of the club’s six league fixtures since his arrival and was overlooked for Sunday’s crucial encounter with Ghanian Baba Rahman getting the nod for the No.3 slot.

MAKING A POINT…Greg Taylor at Celtic (above) and in the colours of PAOK.

A 22nd-minute goal from Chicainho gave the visitors the advantage at the interval and head coach Razvan Lucescu made four changes in the second-half as his team attempted a revival. Taison Etienne levelled shortly after the hour mark and that was followed by a 75-minute penalty-kick winner from Andrija Živković.

Taylor watched from the bench as his new team claimed the points.

And the defender will be looking on again when Scotland face Greece in the World Cup qualifier at Hampden tomorrow night after manager Steve Clarke omitted him from his squad.

Tierney and Liverpool’s Andy Robertson were both selected ahead of the former Kilmarnock left-back.

Taylor is under contract at the Greek club until June 2028.

He was joined at the Salonica-based club by his former Celtic team-mate Giorgos Giakoumakis who arrived in a season-long loan deal from Mexico’s Cruz Azul in the summer.

The powerhouse striker has played in all six league games and is still awaiting his first goal.
