GREG TAYLOR sat out PAOK’s Europa League goalless draw with Wolfsberg in Thessaloniki last night as Giorgos Giakoumakis edged closer to a move to the Greek club.

The Scotland international left-back quit Celtic at the end of his contract in the summer to move to PAOK, but he had to be patient during his new side’s failure to gain a lead from the first leg of their third round qualifying tie against the Bundesliga club.

They now face a nervous second leg in Germany on Thursday. While Taylor was anchored among the stand-by squad, former Hoops loanee Jonjoe Kenny played the entire 90-plus minutes against Wolfsberg.

And Taylor could be joined in Greece with another former Parkhead team-mate Giakoumakis who looks to be ready to finalise a loan switch from Mexican outfit Cruz Azul, according to local media reports.

The Greek international striker was part of the Ange Postecoglou revolution at Celtic in 2021/22 when he joined from Dutch side VVV Venlo in a £1million move.

The 30-year-old powerhouse frontman left for MLS club Atalanta in February 2023 and is now poised to return to his homeland.
