Much of our Champions League history was on show last night, apart from the fragility which has accompanied Celtic so often on the road. The game was immeasurably more difficult than any challenge we face in domestic football. The opening minutes were so stressful, otherwise composed players were spooked, but winning is all about how you react when you are spooked. Do you crumble and concede an early goal?
With less than three minutes on the clock, and Spartak about to take their third corner kick, how many of us thought back to early goals lost in the opening minutes of recent European adventures?
Not for this team, who reacted to being spooked by scoring a genuinely top class goal.
It wasn’t until Spartak went down to 10 men that we made them look like Motherwell (the similarity in possession, passing, composure last night and on Saturday are remarkable) but, Spartak going down to 10 men was not the deciding factor in the outcome of the game. Kris Commons should have won a penalty when Celtic were 0-1 up and Gary Hooper was clean through on the goalkeeper at the incident which led to the red card.
Once level, with 20 minutes remaining, the stage was Celtic’s, but a more illustrious (i.e. expensive and feted) Celtic team had the same stage against a weaker opponent in Anderlecht in 2003 but ended up losing the game. Last night Hooper, Izaguirre, Samaras, Forrest and Brown went about their business in a steady and unspectacular fashion, exuding the confidence you need to win at this level.
No result is achieved in this competition without an enormous performance; just ask those who lost in Belgium nine years ago, including the proudest man in Europe last night.
Bring on the Salt ‘n’ Sauce Rangers.

theglasgowcelticway, do you think so? the video is there, the majority owner of Celtic, says its the same history and club and fanbase. Im sorry but if I was of the sevco persuasion and /a zombie, having my doubts about where its going; its like bobby ewing i’ve just been given a massive shot in the arm as it was only a nightmare and i’m alive!!! Well done DD, absentee landlords for ya…..
I for one am not going to let the MSM or DDs comments deflect me from my joy of last night .
If he had said” F**K them they are deid” they would not be talking about us for weeks.
They are hurting and desperate for anything to take the limelight away from Lenny & the troops.
If DD told me it was wed I would need to go and check a calander.
Was it 1million euros =£800.575.88p we got for the pleasure of breaking our CL duck and sitting nicely in 2nd in our group.
DD is a long game player.
These are special times to be a tim we are in dont let them distract you
ENJOY EVERY MOMENT.
HAIL HAIL
never ever a dull day

Do you agree that
”Rangers is a fantastic club with a great history”
???????
Zombies on Follow Follow saying that DD met with Charles Green and John Brown today, and were drinking champagne / Guinness cocktails from the loving cup. RC Ogilvie joined them by conference call – they have a bubble diagram to prove it.

Could not have put it better myself. What we have not said publicly speaks volumes for well we have and will hopefully continue to deal with deadco and sevco forever how long they last, which I don’t think will last long…
Keep the Faith!
Hail Hail!

No, its Zombies 1 and Zombies 2
Come on you young Bhoys in green.

Ernie,
You don’t get to be very wealthy by always saying what you think.
Miss the first 15 and miss three goals
White heatherCSC
Bhoys to many on this forum worrying about the third division team on the other side of the city.Dont let that mob eat away at you and spoil your enjoyment of our young team.It will be many years before they are back with any real challenge so lets relax and enjoy our success.H.H.
DD is a very shrewd man and knows exactly what he is doing.Thats why he is one of the richest men on the planet
paoloboots
DD can say what he wishes about Sevco as can anyone else it doesn’t change their situation,Zombies!!
Barcabhoy
I would be very surprised if DD wherever he travelled did not have a PR person in tow. Any questions about them should have been off limits prior to any agreed interview.
If he is being clever there were far better replies than those he chose to use, regarding a dead club
Ah O.G. Rafferty, as elusive as ever!
Didn’t you say some bad Sevco news was due soon? It’s just I’m away in Budapest over the next week and I don’t want to miss anything lol.

While I agree with you, he has, as is evident, scored an own goal with many of the support.
He had no need to say that scottish football needs them, scottish football doesn’t need them, scottish football will thrive without their poison and hate filled bile, scottish football will be better off without their manipulation of the sfa and the referees.
Scottish football has an oportunity to flourish without them.
I think the club should be commended for their stance and silence throughout the whole sorry saga.
Dermot had no need to say anything that will alienaite any of the support.
Just my humble opinion mind.
Sorry have huge disdain for him and his ilk that have left Ireland where it is now. In less than 100 years cocked it up for themselves. The last time i heard any words from Dermo was after we won the league at Tannadice wonder what happened to them? Maybe chucko isn’t the only “grand old duke of york’shire in scottish football”!!!
I wonder if a celtic sevco cup game will be ‘arranged’ this year to perpetuate the old firm myth

Do either of you have inside info that DD’s statement is the public face of CFC opinion on SEVCO and if so please let us see the detail to back this up. Otherwise yours like all others on here is just an opinion even though you both make it sound like you are in the know.
Watching the interview DD did not come across as a man who believed the opposite from the words that exited his lips.
Saddened that our club has this man as a major shareholder and to all intents and purposes owner of our club considering the trophies the old dead club Rangers stole, the CL competitions they cheated their way into and last but not least the millions they re-directed away from our club.
No comment would have been an appropriate answer or even an apology followed by a comment that he was only interested in speaking about Celtic and the clubs wonderf result last night.
He has done a lot of good for us over the years and I thank him for that but his comments after TB Thursday giving us the Celtic support false hope and tonight’s comments supporting Sevco’s return to the SPL as Rangers history intact are unacceptable to me and many other Celtic supporters.

Fear not this is what the STUPID STUPID ZOMBIE SEVCONIONS are talking about their upcoming big game :)))))))

Everyone at Celtic made their feelings on Sevco clear when they voted against them being accepted into the SPL.
OG, what happened to the news that was coming last night, waiting for a call this morning still not here this evening?
FF in meltdown about Celtic sites being in meltdown about DD
Andy Walker… ‘The Mess in Scottish Football is down to Rangers, no one else.”
Right. Who took away his soup bowl?
DD non-statement = PR speak & keeping the peace. Does anyone want that bigoted horde given any excuse to further their violent aims, especially when you remember that Chunky has just wedded himself to the loyalist mob in a very public marriage last week in Belfast.
We know, they know, DD knows, even Chunky knows…..they are dead. They are zombified.
Chunky will say/do ANYTHING to get out of this with a profit, even if it means stirring up ultra-violence. DD just negated that rabble rousing with one single sentence. Where does the Yorks. vulture go now? The best he can hope for is the re-emergence of ra bommur to throw some excitement into the failing outlook of a mediocre 4th. tier arrogant slags masquerading as a football club.
Forget them….we don’t have to tolerate them any more. Tolerating them is the vulture’s problem.
The greedy fud.
tongue in cheek sarcasim,maybe.

”Everyone at Celtic made their feelings on Sevco clear when they voted against them being accepted into the SPL.”
Why then did The Great Desmondo say
”Rangers is a fantastic club with a great history” ????
What is to be gained by saying that?
I listened to Dermot Desmond, although I didn’t catch the bit about Sevco. He was questioned about our manager, and I thought he spoke very well.
I liked how he sidestepped a loaded question about Lenny’s feisty character/will to win, to mention instead his intelligence, lateral thinking qualities, and his constant desire for self-improvement.
These are qualities that many on here recognise but that seldom get mentioned in the press, due to Lenny’s snarling face or red hair, I suppose. Nonetheless it gratifying to hear that the owner has a deep understanding of Neil Lennon on a professional and personal level.

Yeah that’s what it was. Because The Great Desmondo needs to keep the peace.
If I get asked in public about Sevco I’m saying i’m a Rugby man – it’s safer.
Ernie Lynch
Don’t know and don’t care.
When it came to Celtic’s opinion on Sevco they rejected them.
DJTREAK @17’15
Some interesting stats you give on the match last night. Never realised that the extra time was changed to five from three minutes after Celtic scored the third goal but in fairness that was probably correct as there was a lot of time wasting. the Gary Hooper incident was amazing that the linesman had not seen the incident. You have to contend with these things when you are the away side.
Great win for the team last night and we have done brilliantly in our recent games in Europe. Great to see how strong the bench was last night with Ledley, Kayal and Forrest waiting in the wings to make an entry. This young squad is really enjoying the European experience.
Dermot’s double wide,if he had said he didnt recognise the history the huns wouldve said his opinion doesnt matter.
It doesnt either, its not him that drinks, works and lives near huns thats going to give them pelters for evermore, its our view that matters, take his comments with a pinch of salt, hes insulating Celtic against the bombs that are about to go off.
A pure wide-o,thankfully.
