Much of our Champions League history was on show last night, apart from the fragility which has accompanied Celtic so often on the road. The game was immeasurably more difficult than any challenge we face in domestic football. The opening minutes were so stressful, otherwise composed players were spooked, but winning is all about how you react when you are spooked. Do you crumble and concede an early goal?
With less than three minutes on the clock, and Spartak about to take their third corner kick, how many of us thought back to early goals lost in the opening minutes of recent European adventures?
Not for this team, who reacted to being spooked by scoring a genuinely top class goal.
It wasn’t until Spartak went down to 10 men that we made them look like Motherwell (the similarity in possession, passing, composure last night and on Saturday are remarkable) but, Spartak going down to 10 men was not the deciding factor in the outcome of the game. Kris Commons should have won a penalty when Celtic were 0-1 up and Gary Hooper was clean through on the goalkeeper at the incident which led to the red card.
Once level, with 20 minutes remaining, the stage was Celtic’s, but a more illustrious (i.e. expensive and feted) Celtic team had the same stage against a weaker opponent in Anderlecht in 2003 but ended up losing the game. Last night Hooper, Izaguirre, Samaras, Forrest and Brown went about their business in a steady and unspectacular fashion, exuding the confidence you need to win at this level.
No result is achieved in this competition without an enormous performance; just ask those who lost in Belgium nine years ago, including the proudest man in Europe last night.
Bring on the Salt ‘n’ Sauce Rangers.

There’s an argument to be made that the demise of Rangers has helped this process in a very considerable way. Instead of missing the heat of battle with his old foe, Lennon seems to have been liberated by the end – for now – of that kind of intensity, so much of it negative and exhausting and poisonous.
DD was asked a question about Sevco……………………….. his answer see above
DD on Celtic……….. we will continue to balance the books, wont be bullied to spend more than we have, NL will be backed and supported as he continues to grow into a Celtic manager of substance
Nothing we didn’t know, no surprises

Relax
DR are wanting sales and publicity………………..0))))))
Right then. Just to combine this morning’s topics.
Who is putting a bet on Dermot Desmond to win the golf tourney that he’s here for? :-
is there anybody really getting their knickers ina twist about DD statement.
its very bland and banal and doesnt say very much, pays lip service to rangers and again rubbishes the notion that rangers are where they are due to celtic doing it.
What DD says to media and what he thinks may not be the same.
Remember that MOn told anyone in media who would listen how great rangers were and how celtic couldnt compete while telling the players we can do this mob.
Some people need to get out more – but then again, if they dont have board bashing as a hobby they have nothing.
If there are celtic supporters today after what we witnessed tuesday getting angry over banal comments in media and are more unhappy about those comments than they are happy about Tuesday then that’s very sad.
But then again, you only hear from some posters when something negative to say, the next defeat no doubt.
Whither the cash strapped scrofulous zombo-billies the day?

It doesn’t matter what anyone from Celtic says or how cleverly they say it the MSM will twist it, that’s their job. They have been trying to goad Celtic into a war of words for months.
So what! They got a headline, the Sevconians will fall deeper into illusion, none of it will change the outcome, collars will be felt and custodial sentences will be handed out…
Let the dogs have their day in the illusional sun and really who gives a flying france what the MSM or it’s readers think and ultimately how gives a airbourne duck what the followers of Sevco think, we in the Celtic Family know the truth, it’s written in black and white all over the New Media for those who want to read it.
It’s just another day in MSM/Sevco lalala land of no consequence to Celtic the top team in the land…
Have a wee look at this well worked corner from Serbia.

What to buy the mhan who has everything?
In ole Dermot’s case a hunguffery detector.
Totally predictable spin by the Record on Desmond’s remarks. Poor show from DD for giving them the opportunity. Months of carefully saying nothing and now this…
If anything this demonstrates the wisdom of Lawwell’s policy of saying nothing: look how quickly the MSM distort innocuous remarks to suit Sevco’s agenda.
lionrors67
I know that and you know that but DD opened the door for them to further their build up Sevco garbage.
I think he could have done it a bit better or not done it at all.
Who cares what the Daily Record has to say ? Made up guff for people with sponges for brains …
DDs view of the world is different from mine ? Quelle surprise !

On this occasion though, they’ve not had to ‘twist’ anything
After looking at the state of old ragers and Sevco, I,m happy to stick with DD.
He might not splash the cash the way we would like, but we still have a strong healthy club.
If D.D came to the A.G.M. every year he might have a better idea of how the fans think about sevco.talk to the sopporters on a regular basis MR DESMOND not just the chosen few you meet on the golfcourse.
supporters not sopporters.
Ten Men Won The League
Dermot Desmond didn’t say anything that Celtic managers and owners haven’t said over the years, great club etc blah blah blah, I watched the interview I didn’t hear anything that made my blood want to boil.
And if DD thinks the Orcs are a club with a great history so what it’s his opinion doesn’t change or influence my opinion.
I would imagine everyone at Celtic is sick of being asked about the orcs that’s the situation we are in where Celtic’s victory for us and for the good of the game barely rates a mention but DD opinion of the Orcs is front page news!!!!

DD is not a desperate man looking for a quick buck
CG playing to the galleryand playing with fire the consequences of which may still see some one lose their life for wearing the wrong colour
DD not wanting a hornets nest of rabid poisonous angry mentalists, he does not need to make a quick buck by spouting to the gallery so he mouths some banal patronising guff about Sevco
To end SOT hits the nail on the head
Who cares what the Daily Record has to say ? Made up guff for people with sponges for brains …

Here is my problem.
We as the internet bampots know the realities because we use the instant interactive media to our advantage but there are thousands of Celtic fans who still read the Record or another outlet and use it as their number one source of information regarding Celtic.
They’re not on CQN, The Huddleboard, Kerrydale Street or elsewhere.
They think the journos are giving them honest down the middle reporting and they genuinely believe that.
We all know DD didn’t say he wants Rangers back in the SPL – that has been twisted but so many read the headline and not the article and these things become accepted wisdom and even if it is for the weak of mental capacity or the gullible it creates myths presented as facts.
That annoys me.
Celtic are the only show in town and we should have been basking in a few more days of enjoyment of our result on Tuesday while seeing the hacks having to praise us and laughing at them vomiting onto their keyboards while doing it in some cases. Instead we’ve got people talking about them and giving them credence and when the thing starts with our majority shareholder it gets more legitimacy.
That is disappointing.
starry plough
Fair enough. That’s your opinion. Mine is entirely different
DD’s quote of ‘Rangers were relegated’ shows a man completely out of touch with what has been happening in the last few months. His comments were not ‘clever’ or ‘cute’ imo
Virtual hun racing at the bookies would be good.
They could have 6 zombies starting in the traps, and when the bell goes the zombies chase a mechanical (virtual obviously) sloth over the finishing line.

“I always find that the board bashers don’t seem to have a clue about business.”

You’ll find they dont have a clue about football either.
##############
They are all f*****g plebs who should know their place.
So what if The Great Desmondo praised the huns?
He was lying. Smart people like you know he was lying.
And anyway, he had to say what he did because otherwise the MSM would have said something nasty about us, and that would have been unbearable.
PS
How many games (football, involving Celtic, not golf) has he been to this season?

Sorry for butting in
DD has amassed a fortune in the financial world, by being in touch
I dont believe he is out of touch at all with whats been happening with Sevco
lionroars67
I don’t believe he is out of touch at all with whats been happening with Sevco
His comment that they were relegated show that not to be the case
ernie
DD deserves any criticism required for the perceived intent of his remarks, BUT….
“How many games (football, involving Celtic, not golf) has he been to this season?”
What does this matter?
Do we win more games when the majority shareholder is in attendance?
Do all clubs win more often when their owner/ maj. shareholder attends?
Does a hands on approach from the main man actually affect the outcome of results?
If not, what should it matter to me or you if he comes to CP? His job is not that of a supporter.
For my money, I’d rather he had less to do with the football decisions. Wasn’t he supposed to be the genius behind the signings of Daryl Murphy and Roy Keane (yes, I do believe that Roy was pretty much a failure at CP) ?
Ten Men Won The League
I didn’t think his answers were clever or cute, an interview is generally as good as the questions asked and in Scotland the so called media tend to ask crap questions badly formulated and then if that’s not enough to repeat the same crap question ad nauseum until the illicit an answer in the direction of the headline they have already decided they are writing.
Dermot made a rick by saying the huns were relegated, they weren’t relegated and I’m sure DD knows this but it’s not only our enemies who are waiting to pounce on every word from our custodians but that is a whole other story.
Different opinions yes and thank God for CQN where we can express them.
Hx2
DD should have said “sevco are nothing but tax dodgers cheats and desperadoes, they have no place in Scottish football and were all better off without them, now did anyone see where my ball went?”
On a more serious note what about that swing of his?
One of the CQN golfing fraternity should give him a bell and offer some coaching.
Quite embarrassing for a man of his stature.
Soaporters is it, i htink their all just flanatics
goal.com have selected their CL team of the round for matchday 2:
Hart (Man C)
LUSTIG (The Champions) Douglao (Braga) Bonucci (Juve) Eliseu (Malaga)
Fabregas (Barca) Iturra (Malaga)
C. Ronaldo (Real) Gotze (Dortmund) Rodriguez (Porto)
Messi (Barca)
Inexplicably, Lee McCullough was not selected
What time is the League cup draw today?

Ask any of the youngsters what it was like having Keane around the place – you would be surprised. He played well for us but just a shame his injuries took their toll.
Not sure if he was behind the signing of Murphy to be honest, he’s not exactly box office which is where Desmond likes to get involved occasionally.
That said, although I’m not exactly angry with his comments, I do think he went a bit too far, specifically with the lavish praise of their history and relegation remarks.
Still, maybe he knows more about what is around the corner for them than we presently do.
HH
Dermott is regularly accused of being fonder of money than Celtic. I doubt theres any truth in that, however think on this for a second.
Dermott’s shareholding value , like all of ours, has been negatively impacted by more than a decade of financial corruption by Murray.
In other words Murray being a crook at Rangers has cost Dermott £millions.
Now rich guys, and Dermott is a staggeringly rich guy, did not get rich by turning the other cheek when they have been cheated. They get even. Then they pay back in multiples the damage thats been done to them.
They are also pragmatic. So once Rangers were broken as a business, once their credibility as a sporting institution with integrity was destroyed for ever, once their recovery was seriously damaged financially by ensuring they were denied a quick entry to the top table, and once their titles have been stripped and life bans for the guilty enforced. Once all of that has happened pragmatism can kick in, but only then.
Which means , no fast track return and no easing up on the mission for justice.
None of that would have been possible if Dermott was not onside with fan opinion. It’s just easier for us all if he doesn’t blast away in the way that we can…..and do

Do you believe a man like DD who clearly dislikes the MSM and rarely gives interviews revealed what he thinks and knows about Sevco to the Scottish MSM…………………..
ItaliaBhoy
you don’t think saying little would have been a board decision, not only pl’s?
i think all the years in business might have prepared dd for dealing with the scottish media. he could, quite literally, buy and sell them. he would have chosen his words carefully and strategically.
he can’t win with the celtic support, but then that goes with the territory
Morning CQNer’s
Just dropped in to say
I’m glad DD said what he did about the huns.
What DD has done with his comments is – illustrate to thousands
of fellow Celtic fans just what types of folk actually
run ‘OUR’ club.
I will conclude by saying that it’s time to get rid of the – Thatcher-types that
think they hold all the power at CP.
Neil and his Lions on the pitch have elevated the club to a new level this week.
DD has just pulled the rug !!! imo.
I won’t say – “Sack The Board !!!”
Because, obviously there are plenty of Celtic fans who don’t know when they’ve
been had. That is sad.
Anyway – Places to go – fholk to see…
Off oot
Hail Hail
laters…
laters dude
The annoying thing is that the MSM are perpetuating the myth that Rangers were demoted to Div. 3. They just won’t accept their beloved team goes into liquidation next week, and a new team with no history is playing in Div.3.
traditionalist88
Keane may very well have impressed the youngsters with his aura but he did not enhance the team with his skill because he was a broken down shadow of a player when he arrived here.
He was just as ineffective as Du Wei in our defeat to Clyde but the Chinese lad was the scapegoat. He managed 10 matches for us and impressed in only 1, The Rangers game where he played reasonably well in a poor match.
I have no idea whether DD sourced Murphy or Keane, as the rumours alleged, my point was to ridicule the notion that his presence at matches is important to the football decisions we need to make as a club.
Have to go now.
