Teams with inferior resources have figured out how to play us

426

Despite benefiting from the worst goal I’ve seen conceded against Celtic, a well-drilled by no more than competent Kilmarnock team came from behind to take all three points and leave Celtic at a multi-year low yesterday.

Excuses are available: the pitch, the fact that we made six changes to the starting 11, but the reality is yesterday’s performance was little different from what we have seen so often this season.  I could make a case that we were worse still in the home win over Hamilton.  The latter performance took place on a pristine Celtic Park with Dembele and Griffiths both starting.

Two seasons on, teams with vastly inferior resources have figured out how to play us and we have not figured out how to compensate for this reality.

I trust the manager.  He has delivered and deserves our faith.  He will get it right and deliver 8-in-a-row, but I fear for our treble on Wednesday night.  Having failed to win any of our three away games against Premiership opposition, the pattern is too complete to ignore.

Apologies for the radio silence on CQN yesterday.  The server was knocked off by the volume of visitors and the recovery process caused further issues.  Been ages since this has happened, but I suppose it’s been a while since we’ve had results like this.

  1. Looks like some CQNers are doing their bit to give legs to the unfounded Brendan will leave at the end of this season propaganda.

  2. Quite funny reading people saying that Brendan deserves time to turn things around, he does, good luck with that when blogs like CQN are stabbing him in the back.

The board [Lawwell] have got their wish, a divided support again, just look on any site and the support is split 50-50, 60-40 over Brendan, Lawwell can sit back and watch the fall out, nothing to do with him, it’s all the managers doing we are not winning, you have to admire him, he knows how to play the game.

  3. Creativity in midfield is our problem, not much else. The defence are passing the ball backwards and sidewards as there is nobody in midfield willing/able to create anything. We are not scoring goals because the forwards are not being fed by a creative midfield so the forwards look poor because of this. Why not give Scott Allen a chance because if I’m perfectly honest he surely can’t be any worse than what we are witnessing at the moment?

IMO KT and Sinky are like oil and water they do not work together. What was wrong with Izzy yesterday he didn’t make the bench? Sinclair seems to thrive when Izzy is playing. I know hindsight is the foresight of the gobshite, according to TET, but had Izzy been available then KT could have gone into central defence with Izzy at LB and possibly Sinky playing well instead of being a jersey filler.

Yesterday was not a bad day at the office and we have not been poor since the start of the season, we have been poor since the start of the year. We need two creative midfield players – Ntcham, when interested, is one of them and A N Other. I thought taking off Mulumbu was a mistake, even on the yellow card, as CalMac did the square root of feck all and has done so since ‘starring’ in the Scotland game.

Brendan doesn’t escape scrutiny either he either runs the footballing side or he doesn’t. If he does he needs to answer for some of the poor signings but ultimately he is responsible for team selection and tactics. I’m probably in a minority of 1 here but I can’t see what Mikey Johnston brings to the table, I would see the point of giving him a starting berth if he was a game changer but not so from what I have witnessed to date.

Probably just as well the blog was down yesterday because I wanted to vent my spleen but 24 hours later I have calmed down.

Young Hendry may have been partly to blame for one or both of the goals yesterday but this just covers up the fact that we were/are rotten elsewhere. As I said midfield creativity needs to link the defence with the attack. Simples.

If Celtic were interested in Arzani he would have been signed directly from the Aus club. As it played out, he was sold to city under the understanding he would be loaned for two years to us. Now, PL’s son works for city so I’d assume he was involved in facilitating the transfer. That would lead to the conclusion that Brendan didn’t chose the player. Particularly as he had no clue who he was when questioned in the media.

*It is assumed that the Oz club he was with are owned by City. Mibbees one of the diggers on here can confirm this instead of moaning about big Peter.

  5. Evening all.

I was beginning to think that I was growing out of Celtic affecting my mood. Yesterday proved that dead wrong. I haven’t felt so down since we lost to Motherwell and lost the league. How long ago was that 9/10 years??

To make it worse, CQN went down.

Let’s hope we find a different way of playing. We certainly should have the players.

“I fear for our treble…we will win 8 in a row”.

Sorry, Paul but this attitude goes along way to explaining days like yesterday. We are complacent and lazy. We lack a work ethic. Forget the treble. Forget the Europa league. Let’s play our strongest 11 every league game and fringe players for all other tournaments. We need to put together a 10-12 game winning run and get this league put to bed. It won’t just happen. We have to earn it and that means full strength teams and no Jack Hendry.

Strip away all the shite, we and sevco have made near identical starts to the season. They’ve scored 15 though in the league to our 6. That must be addressed and quickly.

No more talks of trebles. We’ve a league to win.

    ============

Totally agree. The only game that matters is the next one.

When that is over then it’s the next one.

There was a time when a team with 6 changes would see off domestic competition. That is no longer so.

We have wandered into a comfort zone but being uncomfortable is a sure way out.

We could do with a bit of luck with injuries especially at CB but Mulumbu looks like he Brown and Ntcham would make a solid midfield platform.

After that I’d go for height in Boyata, Ajer and Benkovic with KT the obvious last pick.

Up front LG and anyone else from Forrest, Edouarde, Johnson, Morgan ,McGregor, Rogic and Christie depending on surface and opposition.

So 9 regulars and the rest fighting for a place.

I’ve not forgotten Sinclair but right now he is not up for the fight.

  7. I so remember the days whenever one of our flair plyers was butchered, the cry went out, Brogan’s gonna get you. Great days, great times indeed.

Opposition have learned to stop chasing us around the park , we have lost a bunch of goals out the team , team have forgot where the goals are ,our passing game was only good cos we had guys that could find the net.

No one seems to be enjoying playing ….

If it’s still the same in 3 weeks , we are in trouble … we are been undone by complacency from our mgt team , mid to front yesterday , we were too lightweight for an away league match in Scotland

Seems Jim Brogan has passed away.

*could do with the likes of him him, the Quiet Assassin and Wee Ten Thirty now, couldnae see BR trying tae curb their aggressive tendencies.

I was there the night he scored the last minute winner at the Celtic end, as far as I can recall he ran straight tae the Jungle. I have often said if we could have patented his aggression with his brother Frank’s talent we would have won more Big Cups.

One of his finest games IMHO was a SC replay at Fir Park. We had tied the first game which was played on a Sunday due to the power cuts and 3 day week 2-2 against a strong Motherwell side who had led twice with Harry Harry equalising from 2 Brogie crosses and if the truth be told the steelmen deserved tae win.

So onto Fir Park 3 days later, Motherwell with Ian St John at the helm were a pretty decent side, we had already played them 6 times that season winning 3, losing 2 and tieing 1 with 11 goals for and 9 against, they actually took us to a replay in the LC.

They had a former Liverpool player, he had struggled to get intae a fine ‘pool side so moved to Coventry where he joined St John moving on loan tae Tranmere when St John went there. After he got the Motherwell job he took the local lad back up the road with him. Bobby Graham was a really good player and the type the Big Mhan always coveted, he would have been a better acquisition than jimmy bone who along with the likes of jim melrose should never have worn the hoops.

Graham ran the 1st game at Parkheid so Jock in a brilliant move played Jim Brogan in the man marking position, Pat McCluskey was deployed at left back. Early on Fat Pat got injured and Jock brought on the much maligned Tid who played a blinder at left back with normal left back Jim continuing in his role, Bobby Graham hardly kicked a ball that night and the 1-0 scoreline flattered the steelmen.

Our winning goal incidentally came from a Tid cross which Dixe rammed home.

  15. Ignore the MSM and even more important ignore the uninformed amongst our own so called support.

This is a time to plant your flag in the ground, get on the front foot and react like champions. Enzo Calzhage used to say, train like challenger and fight like champion. Let’s start again; reassess the prizes, forget Europa League as I have more chance of winning that trophy than this Celtic squad. The prize , the biggest prize is our domestic treble.

Losing on Wednesday would be the start of a relentless campaign to see us knocked off the top perch. Our forefathers would loved to be in our current position. We are not looking good however look what we are faced with. A Hearts team so ugly and void of skill that anyone who watches them would yearn for the team of Walter Kidd. The Manky Mob think Kyle Lafferty is the answer, I dare not ask what the question was. We have slipped, we are nowhere near as awful as some in here think.

I posted on Twitter yesterday that we have tried to replace Roberts, Armstrong and Dembele with potential SPL players, that has failed. We seee that now, hopefully our board see that also. The 2018 wage bill needs CL football probably every two seasons. Much as I love the CL nights, we have other priorities right now.

  16. !!BADA BING!!

Correct about Clarcke at that time . Do you think he would have a change of heart if he was asked now?

Btw , for the avoidance of doubt , i don’t want Brendan to leave , i do wish he would use the diagonal ball over the top into space more often for Forrest on the right wing or Edouard on the left wing and Griff in the middle of the front three .

  17. MARSPAPA- I think the Celtic job was probably a target for SC ,when taking the Killie job, agree with the rest of your post HH

  18. 50 shades of green on

Bloody hell yer talking about replacement managers for Brendan, and some of you think his time is up..

Some folk really need to get a grip.

Who needs the smsm when we have alleged Celtic fans coming out with that crap.

CQN is but a very small reflection of the support, even on here the support is split, some of the other blogs are even more divided regarding the manager, Paul has published a few blogs that were, lets not beat about the bush here, digs at Brendan, why would that be I ask, it’s common knowledge that Paul has the ear of Peter Lawwell, it’s common knowledge that some of the CQN blogs are published with the say so from on high at the club, unless you know differently, if you believe that there has been some sort of fall out between the manager and the CEO, I certainly do, there can only be one winner, some will want it to be the manager, the others will want it to be the CEO, I believe as many other do that the CEO has been drip feeding info to selected people in the media, Paul included to divide the support, why you may ask, the board, especially Lawwell, doesn’t think we are getting value for money, considering some of the transfers in and the recent results, they, he could have a point.

  20. just like to add my condolences to jim brogans family, one hard tackling but fair defender, had many a pint in jim brogans bar in Coatbridge may he rip.hh.
