Technical review needed after Real game

882

The trip to the US to play Real Madrid is core to strategy for Celtic right now.  It allowed the significant North American support an easier opportunity to see the team, keeps the club’s profile high among the game movers and shakers and will have contributed valuable financial resources.

You know there’s a ‘but’ coming, don’t you.

Gary Hooper, Anthony Stokes and Daryl Murphy all picked up or aggravated strains on the trip.  The players are still stepping up their fitness regimes.  Muscles are being stressed, then rested, then stresses a little further.  Returning from two lengthy flights with a high incidence of non-contact injuries suggests we need to review how we prepare athletes for travel.

Do you like the new-look Celtic Quick News?  Some fundamental changes have engineered into the back-end which should make things more solid going forward.  More new features will come on-stream shortly.  My enormous thanks to Kev, who designed the template and everything new in the engine room.

Don’t forget, if you have an article in you for CQN Magazine email me: articles@cqnmagazine.co.uk and let me know what you would like to write about. I’ll be able to give you some pointers. Next edition coming soon.

  1. Just getting used to the new layout, jury still out.

However, a “like” and “dislike” button would be an advancement.

Save having to write agreement / disagreement with a fellow blogger whilst hiding from the boss !

What’s different about the blog since this morning? I’m not getting it.

btw a home page link at the end of each page is required again.

to even suggest that anyone within the management structure of fc deadclub would pander to the knuckledraggers within their unwashed hordes is….well probably true.

  4. It’s a shame how these wee diddy teams get messed about…

Sevcos’ home league match against Elgin City will now kick-off at 4.30pm on Sunday, September 2, live on ESPN.

The fixture was put back 24 hours last week from the Saturday to the Sunday with a noon start, but the SFL then announced that would have to be looked at again as the Great Scottish Run was taking place around the city at the same time.

After discussions with both clubs, Strathclyde Police and ESPN, a 4.30pm time has now been confirmed for the Division Three match.

Now I can put away my (green tinted) “gregories” for good.

  6. I’ve complained the last couple of days about not being able to buy my Helsingborgs ticket on-line – especially when no explanation as to why I couldn’t, was offered. I phoned ticket services last night to try and buy one that way and the guy told me he couldn’t sell me one either and that I should phone ‘the stadium’ when it opened in the morning.

Well I paced the floor all night.

Ghirl I spoke to this morning, after two hours of trying, told me I should have received a letter telling me I was getting emptied. No letter has arrived – hence stress, anxiety and large phone bill on its way. And hopefully a ticket in the neighbouring area. She did though, waive the booking fee.

I say all this because there were one or two other CQNers stating they were having the same difficulty as myself. If you are still having a difficulty and you haven’t received a letter telling you UEFA want your seat, then you know what to do now.

    Hope this helpful.

  7. Got back yesterday from a brilliant weekend in Philly with the Celtic family, finally got to meet a fellow CQN’er in the flesh Dublinbhoy if you’re out there absolute pleasure to put a face to a name. The bhoys were in great form all weekend, particular highlight was passing the coffin around the plough bar on the Sat night. Looking forward to my trip home at christmas now so I get to see the bhoys in proper competative action at paradise.

  8. Dont sell McCourt! Paddy McCourt!

PADDY McCOURT was today assured he still has a big part to play in Celtic’s campaign, and that any attempt to lure him away from Parkhead will be met with strong opposition.

Most heartening for the Northern Irishman is that Neil Lennon is the man underlining how important the 28-year-old remains to the manager.

McCourt is in the final year of his contract, and has made it clear that a continuation of a lack of game time, which he has experienced in the past four seasons, would be the only thing which would force him to reluctantly call time on his Hoops’ career.

He figured only as a sub in last term’s SPL, and it has been the same story in the early stages of this campaign.

A niggling groin injury caused him to miss out on the game in Helsinki last midweek, and while the majority of his team-mates were in Philadelphia over the weekend, he was receiving an injection to try and clear the problem.

Lennon has already written him off for Saturday’s game against Ross County, but he believes that, when McCourt has recovered, he will have an important role to play in his side.

The manager is aware of his player’s public declaration that he may have to consider asking to leave to get more time on the pitch if it is not forthcoming at Celtic, but Lennon revealed: “He has not come to me. Normally he would have a quiet word.

“But Paddy knows he is an important member of the squad, and I am hoping to give him more game time this year.

“The squad is a lot thinner, so there will be more opportunities for him to play.”

Lennon appreciates the effort McCourt has made over the summer break to return to action in the best possible condition to push for a place, and said: “Paddy has done very well pre-season in terms of his fitness levels.

“Unfortunately, he has just picked up this little niggling groin strain. Hopefully the injection he has had will clear it up.

“He is very handy, whether he starts or comes on. He has a great impact at times on games.”

A fact not overlooked by other managers, including Blackpool boss Ian Holloway, who has previously had cash and loan bids rejected.

Lennon reports that there has been no fresh decision to make on the future of his forward, but he is sure he knows what action to take if an offer does come in before the window closes in a fortnight.

He said: “We have had no real interest in Paddy of late. And, even if we do, we would probably rebuff it anyway.

“I want to keep to him around the place.”

Paul67, cant find any technical problems on either Mac or Android phone. good stuff. and good to see youve changed the upper case to normal. However, on Mac its quite tiring and bit of strain on eyes as small black writing surrounded by big blocks of green and very bright background. Looks perfect on android phone though! Maybe lighten the share on facebook or twitter button? as will help eyes focus on the black writing.

I also like the ‘like’ and ‘dislike’ buttons that you get on the likes of RTC as it makes it easier for busy, important executives like me when scrolling through to find the gems without having to read people telling other people that they saw their old mutual neighbour’s dug chasing a cat up their granny’s driveway in 1979 and to say high to your Auntie Margaret next time your in Tain. It would also be good to see bjmac with umpteen posts and no ‘likes’.

A repost from the nightshift. (You all know its one almighty cover up by now, don’t you?)

Some of you might remember a post of a letter to Margo McDonald copied to the First Minister on 10th July.

Here is a copy plus the reply just received.

Note a) the urge to move on and avoid the issue of SFA governance

    b) the excuse for non interference that totally ignores how the UK Parliament managed to get involved without upsetting UFA/FIFA.

It is like being treated like an idiot by a moron. (Oh and why pay good taxpayer money to an organisation that allows a member to dodge double to treble figure millions in tax and just watch them do it?

    .

    Dear Margo

(Copied to First Minister, Alex Salmond)

I am writing to you in your capacity as Chairperson of Cross-Party Group on Sport at Hollyrood concerning the matter of the governance of Scottish football, where the unfolding saga at Glasgow Rangers FC suggests that whilst the SFA have made some reform inroads in response to the Henry McLeish recommendations in terms of transparency, much still needs to be done on accountability and other issues.

The SFA are the organisation charged with the care of a sport that does form a major part of the fabric of Scottish society and their lack of accountability and clarity of authority raises “fit for purpose” questions.

I appreciate that governments as a matter of policy do not get involved in football matters but note that in England in 2008 and 2009 an All Party Parliamentary Football Group

    http://www.allpartyfootball.com/about.htm and

    http://www.allpartyfootball.com/about.htm

looked at the governance of English Football and following their investigations produced a report in April 2009 “ English Football and its Governance”

    http://www.allpartyfootball.com/APFG_Report_on_English_Football_&_Its_Governance_April_2009%5b1%5d.pdf

The integrity of the game in Scotland has all but been destroyed, not just by what has happened at Rangers, but by the handling of the consequential emerging issues by the SPL and SFA. Both seem ultimately unaccountable to anyone in Scotland and unclear on their respective responsibilities to each other and the game in general. I am therefore writing to suggest that the Scottish government could adopt a similar approach as in England and have an all party enquiry to look at:

    The accountability of the SFA

clarity of roles and responsibilities between the various authorities (SFA/SPL etc)

If any of the recommendations in the English report are applicable here, particularly Chapter Three in terms of improved accountability.

There is no record of FIFA/UEFA objection to this approach; in fact they might welcome the input of a similar all party enquiry to restore confidence in the governance of the game in Scotland as would the Scottish Public.

I appreciate that the all party group in England consisted of volunteers but such is the passion for the game in this country I think there will be a cohort of the willing, including supporters trusts and associations to take part.

I await your views and the views of the First Minister to whom this is copied with interest.

    The Reply

    Dear Auldheid

Thank you for your email of 10 July on issues relating to Scottish Football. I have been asked to reply.

As I am sure you can appreciate there have been a number of developments since your correspondence. As our national game, the Scottish Government’s commitment to football and to its future is beyond doubt. Year on year we have invested record amounts in football development and facilities. We will deliver a world class National Performance Centre for Sport which will have football at its heart and the First Minister recently announced the Scottish Government would sponsor the 2012/13 Scottish Communities League Cup in recognition of the important role our clubs play in communities across Scotland.

Decisions around league membership and restructuring are entirely a matter for the football authorities and individual clubs. We respect the decisions by members of the Scottish Premier League and Scottish Football League and appreciate this will require a period of adjustment for both Rangers and many other football clubs. In order to ensure the continued development of Scottish football we recognise that the focus should now turn to the restructuring and reform required.

As you may know, Fifa rules strictly prohibit what they perceive as ‘political interference’ from Governments in their members’ affairs and there have been well known examples in recent years where members have been suspended or threatened with a suspension for what Fifa perceive as Government interference. As a result, the Scottish Government, like other governments, recognises the right of independent sports governing bodies such as the Scottish FA to structure themselves as they see fit without interference from Scottish Ministers.

    Yours sincerely
