Techniques to deliver titles

393

I’ve never known Celtic to subsidise an away match ticket before. Put aside for a second thoughts of thanking the fans for their support during a difficult period (which are valid), I like this move for the message it sends to those in the dressing room, as well as the stands.

We are in a league race, and we want to win it. You can understand Aberdeen’s razor-sharp appetite. They’ve not won the league in over 30 years, every man, woman and child in their ranks will be forgiving of faults and profuse in praise.

By contrast, this will be our five-in-a-row, the 11th title in 16 years. It will never come close to what we experienced in 1998, when we worshipped the words of Wim Jansen after a late-season home draw against soon-to-be-relegated Hibs.

For many of us, 1998 was our Celtic supporting high point – it meant that much. Hopefully we will never again be in a place where a domestic title has such importance. Instead we need to find techniques to deliver that edge, to remind us of the importance of getting it right in every league season.

I refer to that Hibs game in 1998 often, it felt like a pivotal moment. We were nip and tuck for the title, what would have been an historic 10-in-a-row title, one which would have violated one of Jock Stein’s teams’ records. That day, it felt like the chance was slipping, but there would be no let-up. We bundled our nerves together and moved on.

Telling the world that the club is subsidising fans’ ticket costs is one technique to help deliver a little bit of that focus. Let’s hit the plastic running on Saturday.

Pivotal moment for me was Paul Lambert’s screamer against the Hun to make it 2-0

    Awesome!!!!!!

A few of us had 1st scorer and correct score……£1 stake…..back to vogue after game to collect £101 which was nice and so was the beer ..AWESOME!

That was some amount of propaganda over the news / sports programs with shortbread pitching Malky McKay & STV telling us that Moyes is ready to take over. I don’t listen to SSB so no idea who they were punting. They can smell Ronny’s blood and fear of 5 in a row is driving them on…

I remember that Hibs game. McLeish got them to perform some kind of All Blacks routine before kick-off. (Some other outfit did the same recently.) But my most vivid memory was of that ref giving offside against Simon Donnelly. Donnelly had started his run in the Celtic half of the. field.

Did the Super One just say his CLUB had gone into administration and liquidation?

    What’s going on today????

  6. Mark Warburton’s stellar career must surely lead him to Milan, Madrid, Barcelona or Munich soon.

But don’t worry The Rangers fans. Neil is now available for you.

  7. An obvious spot where the club could be scrutinised/questioned is on Res12, why have the media not taken this up? I think we all no the answer for to do so would lead them to a place the do not want to go, will never go and we are all supposed to swallow corruption and move on.

  8. Refuse to play the MSM game.

Support RD until at least the end of the season.

Talking about communications the other day. I reitterate, we should set our agenda at Press Conferences.

Stein didn’t get the same stick from the media as his successors. His record made him untouchable.

But all the rest got the media power assisted sneering message. Compare and contrast the treatment of greatest living Scotsman, Smith,. Remember when yet another bunch of European unknowns thrashed his £ multi million tax dodgers the Scottish media couldn’t ask him a single question – such was their pain.

I would go further and let them know that bringing up any subject not relevant to the agenda would mean end of press conference and no future admission to pc’s for the transgressor.

  12. Looking at our starting 11 versus P.Thistle, I would guess we’ll be much the same starting against Kilmarnock.

What I question is whether we can afford to keep giving Commons a start in the hope that he regains even the slightest degree of sharpness…. or do we bring back in Rogic or Roberts ?

  13. Craigellachie10 on

I’m just catching up on the report that we have been reported. They must have Tam from Still Game as match delegate at our away matches while Evelyn Glennie is allocated the role at the Bigot Dome.

IIRC,they lost all three home ties 4-1.

The following year he said that they would avenge those two 4-1 defeats. The one against Unirea didnae count as they were all breakaways.

I always assumed the MSM didn’t question that as they all passed out on the spot, could be wrong though.

  15. For everyone who posted that there is a conspiracy vs Celtic today

We won the league in 98 when every conspirator should have been against us

We were average next season so was the conspiracy false or Wim a genius?

His later exploits suggest the former

Didn’t see Moyes, but he’s been out of work for most of the last two years. Seems like a bit of a coincidence that he just appears on the MSM radar now.

Then we get the Super One on 5Live touting Lennon for Celtic.

And as for MacIntyre. Getting MacKay to say Celtic would be his “dream job”.

He even asked Billy Davies if he fancied the job last week! If Billy Davies is the answer heaven only knows what the question is!

Absolute scum the lit of them!

  17. Fritzsong

Not so much stick, – but he got the full force of anti Celtic dogma, he understood it, and was fit for it. He regularly clashed with the press, from the beginning right to the end of his time when he renamed Richard Park,………Ibrox, for example.

They resented him because of his own personal background and Celtic ‘s unique success he has openly recorded it, in his various memoirs.

Some Celtic managers have been sitting ducks, for the press pack in Scotland, poor results, gives them broken crests, and open season, that’s all they see.

  18. Time on my hands and looking ahead to next season – how many of the following (magnificent 7?) under-21’s are likely to feature in say 20+ of our games –

    Janko (1995)

    Tierney (1997)

    Christie (1995)

    Roberts (1997)

    Henderson (1996)

    Ajer (1998)

    Nesbitt (1997)

If they’re good enough they’re old enough.

  19. Giggsy

No, our manager has history in his hands and will deliver with or without online dissenters.

The reality is at the game; this is the virtual pub and the right place to moan!

One of my great memories was on 1998 …

We were in the parkway in Cardonald and celtic lost a late goal to dunfermline . That resulted in a draw and the league went to the last day when harald sealed the title and stopped 10

On the day of the dunfermline game the huns in the pub had a partyear when we drew .. singing and dancing .

2 weeks later . Hearts v huns at celtic park in the cup final. My mate had stuck a score on hearts to win . At the final whistle he slipped next door to Ladbrokes and picked up his winnings before quickly nipping into g 101 and purchasing a bottle of moet .

As the hearts lifted the cup – the bold pedro appeared between the telly and the huns and sprayed the champagne all over them .

Still not sure how 3 of us fought our way out but we couldn’t stop laughing

1997/98 season, the dead club’s second last league game was against Killie at Ibrox.

The game was scoreless on 90 minutes. Well known hun and ref , Bobby Tait added seven minutes of non existent injury time which backfired greatly. Killie’s Ally Mitchell scored the winner in the last minute of injury time.

Bobby Tait is the MC at various Rangers Trust events and has been spotted in the director’s box at Ibrox.

The huns were so bad that season even their chums with whistles couldn’t help them.
