TEEN STRIKER SNUBS CELTIC

AUSSIE whizzkid Stefan Nikolic has rejected a move to Celtic to agree a deal with Western Sydney Wanderers.

The 17-year-old prolific striker was on the brink of joining his fellow-countryman Tom Rogic at the nine-in-a-row champions and had been offered a contract.

However, Nikolic pulled out at the last moment to seal a two-year switch at Wanderers.

His reluctance to join the nine-in-a-row champions is reportedly based on the current global situation concerning the coronavirus pandemic which has persuaded him to remain in his homeland.

There are also suggestions the youngster took note of his fellow-Aussie Daniel Arzani’s plight during his injury-stricken years at Parkhead and his lack of first-team opportunities before being returned to Manchester City. The international winger has just agreed a season-long loan spell at Dutch outfit Utrecht.

Nikolic, speaking to FTBl.co.au, said: “I want to make sure I do everyone in the West proud.

“What I bring to the team is a lot of goals, I like to score and I like to assist my team-mates.”

Celtic will continue to monitor the teen’s progress.
