Teenage kicks

946

So how do you feel about playing a couple of teenagers, Filip Twardzik and debutant Jackson Irvine, in central midfield, but dropping a couple of SPL points?  Good, I hope.  Welcome to the world of player development.

For a decade or more Celtic produced prodigious youth teams but watched as Dundee United, Hibs, Hearts even Hamilton Accies graduated more effective adult players.  Key to this is perhaps ensuring that players are tested at a higher level at key times in their development.  In short, if you have not played regular first team football by the time you are 22 there is a good chance you will not fulfil your potential.

There is cost to this development, you’re not going to win all the time, especially when the two teenage central midfielders are surrounded by other young players: Adam Matthews, 20, Tony Watt, 18 and James Forrest, 21.  Half time substitute, Victor Wanyama, is still only 21.

I’m looking forward to seeing more teenage kicks in the coming months.

I’m amazed Lenny hasn’t pulled him up about it. Seen him do it in virtually every game he has played so far this season. It allows the opposition to build a counter attack from his area of the pitch unhindered

And it leaves Matthews exposed. It’s a flaw in his game which can be corrected, as he’s got a lot in his locker. Speaking of NL – he seemed to give Watt a particularly hard time once or twice yesterday.

  3. Afternoon bhoys and ghirls,

    Just booked for Lisbon.

Easyjet to Gatwick then expidia for hotel and flights to Lisbon, £300 all in, good flight times and 4 star hotel 2 miles from stadium….cany wait.

You used the toot in your car ,must be a fancy wan, built in en suite.

  5. I wouldn’t mind so much if Forest threw up his hands while chasing back. It’s the fact that he lets the opposition run past him as he pleads his case to the referee that does my head in.

Play to the whistle young man.

Not got game live, but following updates on RTE website.

Sounds like Mayo flying. Are they strong enough to take Donegal you think?

We could all see that Brines was going to give him nout yesterday. He needs to learn that only when he’s sitting in the from row, having been booted there, will he have a chance of getting a foul.

Hope not mate , I want Donegal to win it , Mayo very impressive though .

Dublin not playing very well , missing several good chances and hitting the bar.

  9. we discussed this last year,Lenny seems to have a blind spot when if comes to Wee Jamesy,,

maybe Forrest is the type who need an amr around him whereas Watt needs a rocket..

different players need treated according to their personality….

  10. Now im not as young as I used to be but back in the day when a baw was at my feet i was always embarassed to be put on my bahookey….

How often does Master Forrest end up on his cheeks? Granted he get the odd kick etc but is that not expected? Also, what is this Sammi-esque hands in the air nonsense? Play the whistle will ye…

    Disagree

Club needs to make a statement that it is sick of the lack of disparate refereeing.

I dont blame James at all.

    Play to the whistle?

How about the refs playing to the rules?

Wearing the Hoops should not mean you are a legitimate target.

I coached young players for years, one of the first things their told is to play to the whistle.

Despite biased/incompetent officials James Forest needs to remember that.

Me too my bhoy…..booked up for final……not much chance of tickets but the craic will be mighty…..I suppose tickets chance might improve slightly if no Dubs in final.

He is kicked off the park.

Brines has a publicised agenda against Celtic for demonstrating his dis honesty

So ……why is he given so many tic games

As a team Forrest, Sammi, Stokes, Commons, Hooper all go down far too easily …coached to do so I reckon
