Teenage kicks

946

So how do you feel about playing a couple of teenagers, Filip Twardzik and debutant Jackson Irvine, in central midfield, but dropping a couple of SPL points?  Good, I hope.  Welcome to the world of player development.

For a decade or more Celtic produced prodigious youth teams but watched as Dundee United, Hibs, Hearts even Hamilton Accies graduated more effective adult players.  Key to this is perhaps ensuring that players are tested at a higher level at key times in their development.  In short, if you have not played regular first team football by the time you are 22 there is a good chance you will not fulfil your potential.

There is cost to this development, you’re not going to win all the time, especially when the two teenage central midfielders are surrounded by other young players: Adam Matthews, 20, Tony Watt, 18 and James Forrest, 21.  Half time substitute, Victor Wanyama, is still only 21.

I’m looking forward to seeing more teenage kicks in the coming months.

  1. Refs should follow rules ,but this is Scotland and we are Celtic, never going to happen

unless we import them for another planet.

I don’t think the Watt to left, Hooper to right and Paddy in the middle thing worked. Watt stopped working for a while and NL was right to give him pelters. Hooper for me comes alive in the penalty box, and offers next to nothing outside – he links up well enough but the ball doesn’t stick often enough. I’d like to see our two new strikers getting a game and rest Hooper. Watt, like our other young players, needs to be used sparingly and intelligently.

Needs to kick James Forrest up the arse for the number of times he just throws his arms in the air and switches off when he is beaten .

The boy has talent , but he really leaves his team mates exposed when he just chucks it.

    Like a petulant wee Bhoy.

Grow up James and stop acting like a quitter.

You have a wonderful chance to become a great player.

Have a look at Adam Matthews , chasing after his cock up in Heldingborgs.

  7. Surprised at the amount of posters critisising young James for getting booted all over the park.

Do you think he throws his hands up for the sake of it ?

Sort the match fixers, sort the problem.

There are undertones to your article there that’s it’s going to happen Wednesday week. My perfect cousin told me and that’s no little feat.

    TET,

We know we’ll get cheated, we don’t need wee girls in the men’s team

That was not a penalty for Elgin.

But that was certainly a goal.

    Ya danser.

Och come on. No-one’s criticising James Forrest for getting kicked – that’s disingenuous in the extreme. It shouldn’t be a surprise to a player that we don’t get given fouls but it should be a surprise that the player doesn’t play to the whistle and get back and help his full-back.

    Referee has just warned McCoist.

You only have until 35 minutes to score a legitimate goal before I give you a penalty.
