The most interesting point to make about Adam Matthews is that, for another month anyway, he is still a teenager. You and I have seen enough of these games to know that the occasion has a habit of consuming inexperienced youth but Adam patrolled Celtic’s right with remarkable authority last night. All the more remarkable considering this was his first game back after injury.
Football business for 2011 is finished and new signing, Swedish international right back, Mikael Lustig (25), is now available for selection. At 6’3” Mikael has previously played in central defence but Neil Lennon insisted the player was primarily recruited as a right back but, despite the rate Celtic right backs pick up injuries, the need appears greater in central defence. It’s hard to see Adam Matthews losing the right back berth.

the CH will be the Halliche from Fulham on loan with an option to buy, the striker will, hopefully, be Diawara

I thought young Adam was under pressure first half as Dignity forced numbers down his side, which resulted in a number of aimless punts. Second half he seemed more assured and put in a good shift. Adam will be groomed for left back when Izzy is sold.
Our centre halves won it last night, there were a number of occasions when Dignity defender in possession looked up for the punt , only to find Chas and Thomas, holding a line 35 yards out, thereby negating the straight punt down the middle, and forcing Dignity to punt wide.
More experience in our team and taking more responsibility on the ball and we will be running up even more impressive wins against Dignity.
Last night also pointed us in the direction of a few players positions / futures; Victor is a midfielder not a centre half , heading and pace not Victor’s cup of tea; Kevin Wilson IMO should not be allowed in our back 4 again, and he was over looked in favour of young Thomas; young Thomas to be given an extended run.
On Collum he called most things right in the first half but Dignity took advantage of his leniency as the game wore on. I would ban any touching of the ref as Dignity players are now trained to stroke the refs arm, friendly tap on the shoulder etc.
If you forget the colour of the strips, where Dignity any better than Hearts? They will struggle badly and when Jelavic is sold / injured then the focal point of their attack will be gone and you cannot see any other option for them but a punt to Lafferty.
January will be massive both on field fo tic and off field for Gers, their bench is hopeless and their outdated approach to football will mean that bringing in players to fit into their style will be nigh on impossible.

A FRAUDSTER is being hunted by police after paying a court fine with counterfeit cash.
The man used forged £20 notes to pay off his three-figure debt to the fines office at Paisley Sheriff Court.
It was only after he left that staff realised they had been conned.
A staff member at the court said: “You’d need to have some brass neck to walk into a court building and use fake notes to pay your fine.
“I imagine this little stunt might end up costing him in the long run.”
He added: “I understand his plan was to pay off the fine in one go but to hand over fake notes was crazy.
“It wasn’t just a single £20 note he handed over, there were several of them.
“I’m told that he had hidden the dud notes in among some real ones.”
Police confirmed that they were investigating the fraud but refused to comment on the exact number of fake notes handed over.
A spokesman said: “We are following a definite line of inquiry.”
Guess the name I am thinking of…

Went to the shop for some milk, had a brief thought about buying a paper but don’t need any Scottish hack to tell me how far in front Celtic were last night.
As for the Traynor article posted earlier I take it this was from a rangers angle rather than a neutral viewpoint. Just proves that point that the only good Glasgow derbies are when Rangers win. No hassle last night to write about so just pan the game.
So for anyone still reading papers CELTIC WERE GOOD last night, not very good just good but better in every area on and off the park.
EKBhoy,
You are right about the Huns’ approach to football – it is absolutely neanderthal. Credit to teams like St Mirren, St Johnstone, and Dunfermline – they all pass the ball and try to play decent football.
Compare this to the oldest rookie in town – the carbon copy of the Wattenacio approach, which was itself already out of fashion by the late 1970s.
The thing is, the Huns now cannot change. They can’t afford to sack Ally, and certainly cannot afford to appoint a new manager and give him funds (“oh, and by the way, we might also be out of business by February…”)
Paul
Agree that Matthews is terrific for his age – showed a real mix of pace and composure last night.
If I were to highlight one of our young players I’d go for Foster.
He has been simply huge in keeping us in things recently.
A great penalty save in the Hearts game and the save last night for their “goal” have been worth at least 4 points for us in all likelihood.
I think he’ll go from strength to strength.

Have you seen the little piggies
Crawling in the dirt
And for all the little piggies
Life is getting worse
Always having dirt to play around in.
Have you seen the bigger piggies
In their starched white shirts
You will find the bigger piggies
Stirring up the dirt
Always have clean shirts to play around in.
In their sties with all their backing
They don’t care what goes on around
In their eyes there’s something lacking
What they need’s a damn good whacking.
Everywhere there’s lots of piggies
Living piggy lives
You can see them out for dinner
With their piggy wives
Clutching forks and knives to eat their bacon.
Hail Hail
Well the good thing about standing beside the Green Brigade is that you can not hear a single song from the huns.
You don’t even know that they are singing unless you see them clapping their hands, of course they may be simply clapping their hands in appreciation of the bhoys in green and not singing at all………………….

Delighted with the result and the mature performance last night.
I see the media are going for the old “if you say a lie enough it becomes the truth” rule with regards to their “goal”. Shame BBJ agrees.
I thought it hit the post on live footage, only to discover it was a great save by Forster who clawed it back at the last possible second. After the twentieth replay I started to entertain the possibility that it might have went over the line, so i gave it a good close look. and I’m still as sure now as I was then that all of the ball didn’t go over. It was close but there was at least a 1/5 of the ball over the line.
I also see the “rubbish Old Firm” game getting trotted out too. Well I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.

I wasn’t part of your ‘discussion’ last night but as no one else seems to have replied to you yet fair play to you for holding your hands up.
I was just bemused people were losing there tempers with each other when we should have been rejoicing.
Still you have my respect and I hope the posters you fell out with will agree.

Rangers win 1-0 on STV
I wonder why Rangers fans are not asking more questions about their team after that goalline incident. That was early in the game at 0-0. They were level and had more than a chance to win the game. They instead spent the rest of the game defending their half and surrendering (I thought they don’t do that?) possession. The stats on the screen were reading 60% in our favour. I felt we were capable of going up a gear or two if we needed a goal. Maybe the Rangers men aren’t willing to ask the questions because they know the answer – they’re a poor team, on the decline and about to get much worse.

… and relax…
I don’t think I have anything to say that hasn’t already been said. Every single one of the Celtic players who played last night can feel proud of themselves today.
The single thing that impressed me most was the level of concentration and confidence throughout the team for the whole 95 minutes. Recent failings have been mostly due to lack of application rather than lack of ability, so I was very pleased with last night’s team effort. I guess the management take some of the credit for that :-)
Now to everybody’s favourite part of the season: the January window… Never mind all the chat about Diawara (whoever he is), what about Bellamy or Keane?
Bourne-STV could well be a wee bit of North Korea for us(as if it wasn’t bad enough just now)
I suspect there is interest in Adam Matthews, otherwise why sign another right back?
