Templar of Doom

1242

I took a nasty Pavlovian reaction today when I heard the radio announce “Derby day” before realising the presenter was talking about the actual Derby.  The last thing anyone planning a night out in Glasgow is the ‘Glasgow derby’, as it was known in its final few years.

As anyone walking the streets of Glasgow and beyond in peace tonight will testify, we don’t want it or miss it.  I prefer my football, like my streets, without this nonsense.

Knights Templar sequestrated?  Blame those “enemies”.  George Peat, Campbell Ogilvie and Lex Gold forced through his appointment as SFA chief executive, despite him not meeting selection criteria.  As every wise footballer knows, know your level.

The magnificent framed Lionel Messi top we are auctioning for 1254125 has less than two days to run, keep an eye on it here.

Copies of Willie Wallace’ autobiography, Heart of a Lion, have been flying off the shelf.  The mail order fulfilment centre will have stock replenished on Monday after running out.  Order your copy below – still time for Father’s Day.

    Hoops Mon: The Celtic Debate

There has been much gnashing of teeth on the twittersphere regarding Brentford’s forthcoming friendly with Scottish Legends[TM] Glasgow Celtic and although some comments are a little over the top I can see why people are uncomfortable with it.

My first gripe is that we are paying for the privilege. This smacks of the far-eastern tours held by top Premiership sides. Their aim is to increase their fan base and cream off lucrative deals in TV subscription sales and merchandise. The fact that in many cases they are in the position to command a substantial fee for turning up – over and above the travel and hotel costs – all helps. But this is not the case with Celtic as they are basically coming to play for their existing London-based fans [of which there are many]. It feels a bit grubby and rather than a set fee, a share of the gate would have been fairer for all as Brentford would then not be in a position of being out of pocket if the target of 9,000 required punters wasn’t reached.

My second gripe is the cost. It’s a friendly! A friendly that has been priced above that of a normal league match. How does that work? Clearly if it was priced as a normal friendly even a sell out crowd would not cover Celtic’s fee so it seems the club has little choice but to charge over the odds for a meaningless game.

Lastly, the allocation of the stands at Griffin Park. The wendy house is given over to Brentford fans only, with the other stands nominally for anyone. Trust me Celtic are going to sell shedloads of tickets. I went to the Fulham v Celtic game a few years ago at Craven Cottage and Fulham fans had the Hammersmith end while Celtic had all the rest and it was packed out. The cottage is considerably bigger than GP. Yes, it’s a friendly and we have no professional animosity towards a team we have never played and are unlikely to in any meaningful capacity [I still live in hope that we will one day get into Europe but I’m not counting on it]. But how will you feel standing or sitting amongst a load of opposition supporters who are likely to be very drunk [this is based on past experience!], perfectly friendly, jolly and creating a cracking atmosphere but are still supporting the opposition? I feel the club may have done a little more here but they know it will sell out with Celtic fans and on past form bees fans have never turned out in droves for friendlies. So, they have given bees fans the minimum selection of seats and terrace they can, pretty much guaranteeing a sell out.

I used the word uncomfortable earlier and I think this sums up how I feel about the whole thing. It makes me uncomfortable. It’s all a bit sleazy, expensive and a little unfair.

BUT, I don’t blame the club at all. A sell out crowd for a friendly is an absolute luxury; an estimated £75,000 profit for the playing budget will be more than welcome; a chance to see Uwe’s latest line up against quality opposition and a cracking atmosphere to whet the appetite for what is hopefully a great season.

Bring it on, I’ll be there and so will all my Celtic supporting mates!

  3. My Recent reply to the ASA

Hi Emily, I hope this email finds you well.

I am disappointed to find that you have found in favour of The New Rangers club being able to claim to be Scotlands most successful club even though they are barely a year old. The Old Rangers went bust on the 14/06/2012 and fell into liquidation owing over 160 million pounds to Creditors. The business was not saved, it could only be saved if a successful CVA was achieved, it was only the assets that were bought by Sevco5088, ( then Sevco Scotland) before they changed their name to something similar to the Liquidated club.

If all business’s could do this, shaft creditors then reform debt free claiming to be the same there would be Anarchy in the business world.

But most worrying was the Fact that you went to the ECA for guidance. The ECA have no Statutory rights over Scottish Football and does not govern them, UEFA governs Scottish Football.

Can I ask why you did not ask UEFA?

Failing that you could have sought Guidance from the English FA, simply by asking them the procedure for a club who liquidates and reforms.

There are also many Sports lawyers you could have asked, one like a well respected Mr Gregory Loannidas.

I would be greatful if you could give any guidance on how to appeal the decision on the grounds that you have not asked UEFA the footballing governing body for Europe for clarification on the Status of the New Rangers club (Formerly Sevco5088,Sevco Scotland)

    Best Regards

    Spanish second division slow news.

Our old friends Villarreal are in pole position for the second direct promotion spot with one game to go. Elche are already up. Villarreal will play Almería next Saturday evening and it’s winner takes all.

Four teams will play off for the last promotion spot. They are looking likely to be Almería (if they don’t beat Villarreal next week), Girona, Alcorcón and Las Palmas. However, a team called Ponferradina can still gate-crash the play-offs.

Ponferradina and Alcorcón have never played in the top flight.

At the bottom, it’s goodbye Nacho and goodbye Bocanegra. Huesca and Rácing were both relegated today. They go down with Real Murcia and Xerez. It’s a second successive relegation for Rácing.

The audio in which Charles Green allegedly bad-mouths UEFA and, in particular, Michel Platini, is very interesting.

I’m not asking for names to be named on CQN, but has anyone been able to verify the identity of the Greek administrator the putative Charles Green voice mentions?

I’m amazed there hasn’t been more talk about this today. I suppose people are a bit battle-fatigued.

And it would seem to me that uefa will ask the sfa for info regarding these tapes, if they are interested at all.

Every single trophy that the club wins destroys the wretched zombie souls a little bit more.

Just keep chipping away at their miserable wee zombie souls.

Personally,i am unconcerned with the hateful ones,it matters nothing to me if they live, die or are born again.

I am loving the recent success that the club has enjoyed, and i am looking forward to Lenny bringing home more and more silverware.

It tears those zombies apart…it really does.

  14. Winning Captains.

Spot on. The only authorities that matter in respect to the status of The Rangers are the SFAband UEFA.

The SFA’s position conflicts with UEFA’s Article 12 of Chapter2 of UEFA FFP which requires a club seeking a UEFA licence to play in UEFA competition to have at least a 3 years trading history.

Indeed this is recognised in the IPO to explain why there is a 3 year exile but as we know tge SFA and msm are not keen on clarity when it does not serve their purpose.

So ASA can be asked to check with UEFA. To UEFA according to article 12 a football club is a legal entity that is responsible for the football regardless of the form it might take. UEFA do not recognise any separation of company and club, a device only invented after liquidation at Rangers for marketing purposes with unforeseen consequences elsewhere if not put to bed. It makes creditors very wary for example by offering no deterrent to avoiding debt using liquidation if a club so chooses to split identity.

The trick is to draw this out from UEFA as msm refuse to focus on it but attempts are being made.

i would have been about 17, and traveled from the NE to Glasgow for a cup final, got separated from all my mates, decided to take the tube thing to hampdump, big mistake, someone saw that I had a green and white scarf, and was nearly thrown off the train.

The reason I wasn’t, was a big bear saw what was happening and took me under his wing and saw them off, he got a few digs and kicks for his problems, but he saw me off the train, and took me to the Celtic end, saw me safe, a gentleman, he took a risk, big time he did.
