TEN-SHUN! CALMAC’S GOAL TARGET

CELTIC’S European specialist Callum McGregor is hoping for a perfect 10 against RB Salzburg in Austria tomorrow night.

The midfielder has scored 33 goals for the Hoops – with nine of them coming against continental opposition.

And the Scotland international is aiming to hit double figures in the Europa League Group B against the team who have won their domestic title for five successive seasons and are unbeaten in this campaign.

McGregor admitted: “I don’t know why I have scored a few in Europe – it’s just right place, right time.

“I’ve managed to get some goals and maybe it’s because the style is slightly different. The games tend to be more open than in Scotland. Both teams attack more.

“There is maybe more chance to find space in the box than I would get in the domestic game.

“Teams are more camped in during league games and that can be difficult. The more open the game, the more it suits our style of play.

“We can try to get overloads in the middle and get the boys wide to get crosses into the box.

“The winner against Zenit St Petersburg in February was probably the best I have scored in Europe.

“It was a good finish, we won 1-0 and it was a great night for us.”

McGregor was part of the Ronny Deila side who faced the Austrians at the same stage of the tournament in 2014 and he added: “It was a really good game the last time we played in Salzburg.

“It finished 2-2. Broony scored with one that rolled down his shin from the edge of the box and Wakaso Mubarak]got a really good finish, too.

“Salzburg had a really good team back then and they pressed high. It was a good match and we know that they are a talented, attacking side.

“This is an important game as we won the first game against Rosenborg and we want to build on that. If you can win your home games and get a point or nick a win away from home, that stands you in good stead.”

Both Brendan Rodgers’ side and the Austrian title winners triumphed in their first games in the group – a Leigh Griffths header proving the difference between the Hoops and Rosenborg at Parkhead last month and RB Salzburg notching up an excellent 3-2 victory over RB Leipzig in Germany.
