Textbook away performance, Brand Britain

3353

I was a bit annoyed at BT’s halftime analysis which suggested Celtic were more than fortunate to be level at that stage.  Salzburg had just enjoyed their best 15 minute period of the game, but, from beginning to end, Celtic’s performance was a textbook lesson on how to play away from home in Europe.  We took our chances and drew our defensive line well in front of our box.  This is how it’s done.

Were you as comfortable as I was during the final minutes last night?

Having watched the performance against Aberdeen on Saturday, when we bossed the game but were penned back when, with two debutants and a returning Scott Brown in the team, the legs faded in the last 30 minutes, I expected the same to happen last night.

Instead, Scott’s goal arrived on 60 minutes, which infused Celtic legs with adrenalin.  This was the crucial moment of the game.  We conceded that fabulous goal from Soriano during the final 30 minutes, but this was also our best period of the game.  Wakaso (who is a player, b.t.w.) ran himself into the ground – literally.  Brown, Johansen, Izaguirre and Ambrose all covered enormous areas of the pitch.

Instead of going through turmoil in the closing stages, we saw Salzburg drop deep, acknowledging the clear danger they could concede for a third time.

The one obvious question is, how did we pick Craig Gordon up for free?

Brand Britain

Brand Britain is damaged. Last night’s vote was a high water mark for independence, so far, but the demographic breakdown suggests support for change is strongest among the young. If the three major UK parties have any intention of maintaining the status quo they need to indulge in considerable Nation Building.

The football business in Britain is in the hands of two closed-shop cartels, one in England and Wales [controlled by the affluent], and one in Scotland [controlled by the unambitious]. This arrangement has disenfranchised Scottish football and drains our economy of tens of millions of pounds per year. It is a clear manifestation of second class status for Scotland and our economy, which is unacceptable for anyone who considers the UK to be one nation.

Politicians with an interest in pushing the buttons of the people, should use this time to call this arrangement out for what it is.

  4. TCR,

Macjay’s been playing devil’s advocate for years, especially on subjects close to our hearts. It annoys the feck out of me, but on the other hand, it’s good to have an other perspective, especially on issues where we are passionate and certain.

His defence of the Celtic Board, balance on the yes/ no referendum are good examples of this.

On the other hand, I’m finding issues that are driving mad, being dismissed with reasoned argument on CQN, and such is life.

Auldheid and SFTB are very smart fellas, but on occasion, I find their reasoning slapping me on the face, and it annoys the hell out of me. You can’t reason with every miscarriage of justice in the world, or reason with every corrupt cabal, but these two will insist on that to the death, as it is obviously something they’re experienced in personally. For that reason, they’re crucial components of any forward thinking vehicle.

And as you know, they are crucial to CQN and will make all of us think again about our opinions.

Macjay’s role, annoying as it can be, is equally important.

If we don’t discuss every opinion here, then we become closer to the hun mentality. The only way folk form make a sound opinion on anything, is by knowing all the facts. If Macjay highlights points such as any Irish support for Hitler, then it’s up to the rest of us to counter that with the context. Not by reminding him that there was a bigger support for Hitler per capita in every other country of Europe at the time, but by accepting his point, and putting it into context.

What I’m saying is, all ages read this blog, and not all are familiar with the historical and/ or contemporary politics which some of discuss taking for granted that everyone else understands.

This is the place to educate.

You feel the need to demonise anyone who has the temerity to disagree with you.

It`s a perfectly normal human trait.

We had our fair share of Scottish screws in the Kesh

Which is why I loathe muppets like TD67 treating CQN like some kind of scabby pub where he winds everyone up with his loud voice and then proclaims his wealth to try and shut everyone up.

There are few here I believe who couldn’d admit they’ve been educated in some way by CQN.

:)) Another important poster. But I agree, Ernie’s posts in the latter days there grew vicious and poor reading, setting back years of great debate from the fella.

An example of agenda over-riding balance – but this was one of the few posters who stood up for the GB using the basic entitlement of free speech as the focus. Not many got that, and few others stood up for fellow Celtic Supporters here at the time.

Absolutely right about debate and discussion.

    It`s an education.

I mentioned earlier a quotation I heard for the first time last week.

“When friends argue, the truth often emerges.”

I understand these guys who Brit bash and I fully understand why.

Probably they have had bitter personal experience at the hands of the British Army or it`s surrogates in the U.V.F. or U.F.F. or the dobs.

But that`s no reason to demonise the whole British nation and it`s flag.

Which is how this whole issue was raised .

    Again.

I’m resisting being drawn into this argument with you, whatever it is !

I know you have a reasonably balanced response to any argument thrown at you, in your role as DA, but they’ve never been right !

EL has defended the Celtic Support against some vociferous pish here. I don’t agree with his position on SI, and I fear it brought out the worst in him. But this is a poster who has made significant contributions towards the defence of the CS against not only the establishment, but also the Celtic Board.

Nothing is clear-cut in our politics today.

We need to recognise that, and attack the point, rather than the person making the point.

Don’t get me wrong, I know how fecking difficult that can be, but the YES/NO referendum there is a good example of fine the divisions can be.
