Textbook in Trondheim, hope in our hearts

582

Celtic delivered a textbook performance in securing the win in Trondheim last night.  Rosenborg are bottom of the group and were effectively out of the competition before kick-off, but only a year ago Anderlecht came to Glasgow after five Champions League defeats and wiped the floor with Celtic (Anderlecht remain a poor side, accruing only two points in a weak Europa League group this season).

This was Celtic’s third away win in European group stages, but the second in two seasons.  If we have genuine ambition to progress in Europe, we needed to win games like last night’s.

The contrast between this performance and the one in the same stadium in Augusts’ qualifiers was stark.  In the earlier game Celtic were poor in possession, unable to impose themselves on a Rosenborg team who needed a goal to draw the tie level.  Instead we ground out a 0-0.  Last night, the passing, pace and control from Celtic was vastly better.  Rosenborg didn’t get a sniff.

James Forrest ended a spectacular month by creating the winning goal for Scott Sinclair.  Scott still had plenty to do to guide his header into the top corner of the net.

Defensively Celtic were imperious.  Any anxieties were limited to what potentially could happen when the home side were able to lob a set piece into the box, but chances were limited, giving Craig Gordon one of his easiest games on the road this season.

By full time, the players looked exhausted.  My mind immediately turned to Aberdeen players, who will have watched from the comfort of their homes.  It is easy to say, “Go again”, but players are not machines.  Sunday will be the seventh time they have climbed the domestic mountain in succession.

Legs and minds will be tired.  If Celtic lift the trophy at Hampden, heroics will be required.  But this is Celtic, so we have hope in our hearts.

  4. Good Morning Bhoys from a grey Dundee this cup final day. Hoping for a continuation of our recent good form and a decent result for the Timaloys.. HH

  5. Morning Bhoys,

Another cup final, another trophy to be won. If we turn up, we win. An early goal to settle any nerves would be nice. Sheep fans are not confident, but after the sem-final, they think ( hope ) they might get lucky again. Take an incompetent ref out of the equation early and enjoy the afternoon. James Forrest/Tom Rogic joint MOTM.

On the boxing. Usual farce from USA. Before the fight, I wanted both of them to lose. Next best thing, no-one won, but it’s just a money making exercise. Zero integrity in Heavyweight Boxing in USA.

    Enjoy the day Bhoys. ????????

  6. At last, couldn’t get near the site for pop up competitions and other stuff for last two days.

Anyway, JavaScript turned off and here we go.

Good luck to us all today and hopefully we can win, the Lhad is in Houston ( Texas) and will be watching with the local CSC then an NFL game and back to Austin. If anyone of the Houston CSC lurk on here, please look out for my Lhad.

    Take care everyone, HH

  9. Morning Freisdorfer,

I’m in the same boat as you wrt Cup games. I was offered a ticket by one of the guys on the bus, but declined. Besides, there are guys who go every week who deserve a ticket a lot more than I do.

Sun shining in the N.E. this morning, but hoping my fellow Aberdonians make the journey home in darkness and silence. ??

Hope all is good with hou and yours.

Apart from Bain coming in the only change I would make is Brown for Rogic. Get McGregor in a sort of “in between” role (kind of a 4-1-1-3-1). Allow him to go forward or back depending on the game situation. He has got the tactical intelligence to know where to go and when.

We will need to be at our best. Aberdeen will be a tough opponent and are always dangerous from set pieces . And with the great Walter’s record on the line we will have to outscore them by at least two just to get to extra time

  11. This is the day, This is day that we win away, that we win away, This is the day, This is day that we win away…

  12. Good morning (again), friends and pleased to report that whilst the ground is damp, it an otherwise dry and bright start to the morning here in East KIlbride.

Liked this one from ‘Paul Lamb’ on Twitter – “BT Sport’s coverage of Scottish football really is second to none! Showing the League Cup 3rd/4th place Playoff before the final today!” ;-)

  13. Hoping for the same team as Thursday with the exception of Bain.

No way id be replacing Rogic with a half fit Brown and making us more defensive.

Go and win the game in the first half, we have better players our defence has been solid and Aberdeen will get skelped if our forward players play.

The big Hampden pitch is perfectly suited for our attacking game, be positive and the cup will be coming back to Celtic Park. HH

  14. Oh Hampden in the rain………………………….

Despite the distinct long lost lack of depth on our rudderless, internet, Celtic are now seven years along the journey but still as ever , just a doomsday away from a Deek, a Seethie or in fact any ole ‘anybody but Celtic’ day.

All the tickets, always gone, seized by terrestrial Tims and all digital portals it seems, are for transfer windows, or whining n’ flouncing, what happened to celebrating Glasgow being for at least seven years, easy inside out and upside down green n’ white?

Down with the Corinthian Celt who hath humped, nae whipped nae humped nae thrashed Sevco. from to within an inch, to a take over panel of their short lives. Meantime we’ve to down erst long established football clubs from Hibees, to Hertz or Scotland’s ‘back up favourites’ Aaaay’ ber deen , none of whom have apparently, twaa halfpenny’s never mind any arcade, to rub together.

Scotland changed forever in 2012, ‘a spare’ licence was procured , and around the city of Glasgow where the air is thick and the zombie a plenty, there are CQN’rs who had worked through it , every day, of their mundane Celtic supporting lives till the end of the mighty Glasgow Rainjurz.

Now this newish but deeply doused in evil ‘Grievance FC’ are our fellow countrymen who maintain, if not demand, the parity of the Billy Bothwell Golf Club, ……mind him? – who rammed us for endless seasons with The Laudrup, The Butch, or a Trevor, n’ Terry. as us the Timmy Tommy, twisted and squirmed.

The peepil are so seethin, presently consumed by King Gerrard and all his apparel, they ask ‘ Why’s this gemm not on cooncil telly?’ – cos Sevco got pumped when Peter was heading back from Murrayfield.

God bless Glasgow Celtic on this day and the many a more Sevco free final.

    Hail Hail

  15. Hi Everyone, Good Morning Cup Final day Bhoys, A nice day to put on a show & hopefully collect our first silver ware of the season

The wizard of Oz Tom Rogic must be a sure thing to start the game today as he has been our talisman at Hampden on our last few visits there Tom , Jamsie, Calum are my first 3 down to take there places in the side

But we have so much talent available we are spoilt for choice to be honest . No mad predictions from me I will settle for a good performance, a terrific game & Green & White ribbons on the Cup

  16. Good morning from a dark – except for the magnificent Christmas light show spectacular, illuminating the Palm treed Ocean boulevard.

Looking forward to the game today.

Hope everyone has their perfect day.

Come on you bhoys in green.

    You can doooooo it!

  18. Mis-heard lyrics…..

As a young 12 year old Teuchter, I was forever belting out south Sean South, except in my learning experience – I somehow got my geography a little confused.

As well as the men that had come from Dublin and from Cork, they also came from Annan and Tyrone.

God bless the volunteers from Shangri-la

  19. This is the day Our Bhoys travel to Hampden, to do us proud once more we hope, they carry the hopes and dreams of our cause stitched on to their hooped strips. some of them know deeply what that means, others newer to the cause wear them with the pride that comes from playing week in week out in front of fanatical fans who lead the way when the chips are down.

Fathers, sons, Mothers daughters, Uncles and Aunties, cousins and pals will make their way to the National Stadium, a hotbed of hunnery to play our game, serving up another dose of Humble Pie(hold the cream) to those who hate us:))

I have nothing per se against Aberdeen or their folk but if they try to get in the way of our seventh trophy I can see a skelpin’ being handed out.

Mon the Tom, Mon The Ryan and Mon The Wee Jamesy, these are the days you will never forget!

And perhaps one man really gets it what it all means, long may he stay with us…

“When you pull on that jersey, you’re not just playing for a football club, you’re playing for a people and a cause.”-

Brendan Rodgers quoted Tommy Burns on his first day at Celtic Park.

Enjoy your day wherever you are Celtic Men and Women..

  20. 50 shades of green on

    Morning Tims..

Bassa just realised its a 3 o’clock kick off, could have had another couple of hrs kip.

Anyway a year ago could you imagine the panic on here if someone suggested we start without Broonie.

I hope he does start mind you ,because Aberdeens only hope is bully the middle of the park, and thats not so easy with Broonie playing.

  21. Getting ready to head for a Hampden. Stomach fluttering as the nerves start to tingle. I hate wild predictions of high scoring victories. I think Aberdeen will be well motivated. They will give us a hard game, I’m sure. However, I hope that every Celtic player plays to the best of his ability and that we ultimately prevail. Quietly confident.

  22. Hello again all you young rebels.

Well thats me back from another hun free day down in the local

hostelries, you know sometimes i do miss the banter and that

little bit of squeaky bum time when you noise up the local bigot

and have to watch your back for the rest of the day, but hey ho

it’s great with the locals here wishing you luck in your cup final

and buying you another Guinness, with one in each hand i

suppose you could say thats whats called Irish handcuffs.

  23. 3rd/4th place Playoff game just about to kick off. A lot of talk in recent days around Sevco potentially being top of the league today. But, should they lose, they’ll have dropped to 3rd. Fingers crossed ;-)

  24. Opps, correction, If Hearts win, Sevco fill to 4th. Would be a decent ‘support act’ outcome for the Main Event later.

  25. We don’t care what the animals say,

What the hell do we care.

For we only know that there’s gonnae be a show,

And The Glasgow Celtic will be there!

Would take 1-0, but hope we win by 3 or more.
