Thai Tims repel hostile Scottish press

87

The Daily Record gave excellent news coverage of the Thai Tims during their visit to Scotland and Ireland this month but the Good Child Foundation, to give them their formal name, have sought input from the Press Complaints Commission after a columnist jokingly asked if the kids were being used as slave labour to stitch Celtic kit.

The Good Child Foundation does enormously good work in educating and developing children, some of whom have Downs Syndrome.  They do not expose children to illegal work.  Their leader, Paul Lennon, is the epitome of all that is good about our club; compare and contrast to any organisation on the planet you care to mention.

A quick word on idle speculation……..

Practically every word of alleged criminality that has appeared on football blogs in recent days is wide off the mark.  Please remember the basic rules of law and our own rules of good manners.  Do not accuse anyone of a criminal act, doing so may be illegal and could undermine any future prosecution.  If they have been charged, use the word ‘alleged’ until a conviction is secured, and most pertinently of all, if you are so insistent that your information is true and just must be read, leave your name and address with your comment.  If you email me your address, for verification I’ll send you a postcard with a code, which you can return to me.  Then everyone will know how to get in touch with you to send their congratulations.

I think Cowan is a moron, and one of those people who starts his offensive jokes to his pals with, “i’m not racist but…”

We shouldn’t be wasting time on him though, his column has probably had more hits today than any other day. If we deny fools like this the oxygen of publicity they will just die out.

Sorry, I don’t think it was a racist remark as much as pointing out the hypocrisy that might exist when a corporation gets positive publicity for charitable work, while at the same time having their goods made by kids on very low wages. I am not saying this is the case here and I am delighted that the Thai Tims had such a wonderful experience. As for Cowan, I don’t know him to assess if he is a racist but his patter is very poor and I gave up reading his stuff long ago.

Tam Cowan is a no talent nonentity who is fortunate that he lives in Scotland where such people are apparently held in high esteem and given the opportunity to express their moronic views in “organs” such as the daily ranker and quite disgracefully the national broadcasting company that we as licence payers fund.

    Hi Paul,

Isn’t speculation just about everywhere on this…

If its clear its speculation, rather than a stated as fact, it wouldn’t normally be a cause for concern would it?

Think on mind, how amusing would it be to be sued for defamation of character by the huns!!!!

You are so correct, but the next few days are crucial, and will give us a better insight as to what direction all this is taking……. Once something actually happens, that is when action is required……… I am becoming very impatient, but cannot believe that SFA / SPL will flaunt the rules….a very perilous road to go down…..

  6. Off topic, skip if you wish:

I’ve not been on CQN so much of late due to work and other commitments, so I apologise for coming on with cap in hand. Feel free to ignore if you feel so inclined, as your support is entirely discretionary and personal. I also acknowledge that requests for charity that usually appear on here tend to be in support of specific instances of misfortune or ill health, rather than more general as is this one. And that we can’t all give to every charitable request that comes our way.

Anyway, the crux of this is that with last week being Walk To School Week, and with me working in a secondary school where as few as 25% of pupils regularly walk to school, I thought I should do something to promote Walk To School Week.

The average distance from home to school for our pupils who travel to school by car is less than 1.1 miles, or about a 20 minute walk… yet only a quarter of the pupils walk. The others proffer various excuses for not walking, including the weather, busy roads (I think they miss the irony of that one!), and it being too far. I decided to demonstrate that it is not too far for them to walk by walking in myself, and home again after my day’s work… in spite of the fact that this would entail a walk of some 16 miles each way!

So on Wednesday last week I set my alarm for 4am and set off from home at 4.40am, half an hour before sunrise, and walked all the way to work, where I arrived 4½ hours later. Then at the end of the day I left a little earlier than usual, at 4.20pm, completing a further 16 miles walking back home again (bringing the total to 32 miles for the day), and arriving home, very tired, at 8.45pm. I got straight into a freezing cold bath to soothe my aching leg muscles, and after a lukewarm shower I liberally applied some chilli oil heat rub to the back of my legs, before having a bite to eat and getting an early night (as I’d only managed 5 hours’ sleep the previous night).

I have just about recovered now!

I decided to use this huge undertaking to try to raise some funds for the charity Whizz-Kidz, who help to provide equipment and support for children who would, I’m sure, love to be able to walk to school, but are unable to do so due to disability.

If you would like to support my efforts by way of a small donation to Whizz-Kidz, you can do so via my Just Giving page. Any amount will help the charity work towards achieving its aims. If just one CQNer donates £1, it will still be put to good use. Any support will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any support.

Governing bodies need sanctions. Good Governance depends on facilitating good behaviours to the point members are effectively self governing.

But when that doesn’t ‘t happens there has to be a full spectrum

consequences to deal with the full spectrum of offences.

If you take away ultimate sanctions you can only govern to a point.

If the SPL / SFA do not impose ultimate sanctions for the ultimate offences allegedly committed …

That was not my poem on the last thread it was Invictus (which is Latin, meaning ‘unconquered’).

Out of the night that covers me,

Black as the pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods may be

    For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud.

    Under the bludgeonings of chance

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the Horror of the shade,

And yet the menace of the years

Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll,

I am the master of my fate:

I am the captain of my soul.

Now if my sole purpose in life was to hate and wish a demographic eradicated, then I think I would think long and hard about taking my next breath, because maybe, just maybe with hate as my life’s fuel, maybe my soul is more rancid than theirs.

    Canamalar:

I once had a blade plunged into the back of my head by a hun, and my mates tried to pull it out but couldn’t, we laughed all the way to the hospital and we laughed at the reaction by the doctors and the nurses when we got there. We were young then and I was immortal. No taxi would let me in because I was drenched in blood. A corporation bus took me to the Western Infirmary never stopping once. I know all about the violence and more than anything else it is the violence I fear. I don’t fear the break up of Scottish football, I fear kids getting hurt or killed.

Society has to stand up to violence and intimidation, society and authority has to stand up to the corruption, in the sad event they don’t… – and they might well not – then for a society worth living in others have got to be man enough to do it in proxy of office, and that is my biggest fear; because they who do stand up for society become the darker side of society’s targets. That, and the law and authority failing the future of all our kids, regardless of which songs they sing, regardless of what team they follow, regardless of which church they go to or not, a kid getting hurt is my fear and maybe the next kid to have a blade stuck in the back of his head will not be as immortal as I once was.

What is going on is bigger than football, it’s bigger than everything that is sacred because there is nothing more sacred than human life. And a Protestants life is as sacred as a Catholics life is as scared as a Muslims life is as sacred as atheists life. The pavement does not discriminate about the religion or affiliation, or the colour of any victim’s blood.

I don’t hate Rangers, I don’t hate Rangers supporters, I hate all those who allowed Rangers to become the monster it is (the media, the authorities, the greedy directors, those who put commerce in front of morals) and I hate those who retaliate with hate, because hate begets hate and hate will know no end and the colour of hate is not blue nor green, not even orange, the colour of hate every single day till we depart is, and always will be blood red.

I pray it is not your blood that stains the pavement in days and weeks to come and not the blood of a hun either.

    Personally,I don’t think he is racist;in fact I don’t think he is anything-ist

I think he is a choob who is very poor at reacting to anything except a script, and equally poor at transcribing a text message into a print column,or,alternatively,a radio or tv show.

He does not seem to have the wit, intelligence and nous to react to the unplanned, nor even to anticipate it.

Another poster alluded to his interview on OFFSIDE about, aye,TEN YEARS AGO,with RUDI VATA.

It was car-crash tv for the reasons that he said, but also because Rudi-who spoke excellent English-clearly couldn’t THINK in English.

So he had to mentally translate the question and answer before replying.

Cowan ripped him for it. I have had no time for him since then.

One good thing came out of it,though. His tv career hit the buffers.

  22. Celtic can’t say anything just now, at least nothing that would allow the MSM to attach blame for Rangers failure to execute a CVA or reform as a Newco

Remember the lies told by the record over Celtic’s actions regarding Rangers paying in advance for tickets . The best policy is say nothing just now that in any way could be used against us

None of the farce and scandal being played out at Rangers has anything to do with Celtic. It is a mess almost entirely of Murray’s making, with a walk on part for Whyte.

That wouldn’t stop the Record in particular and some other publications from trying to involve Celtic and make it an OF issue. Celtic are quite right to have said very little so far.

Some times it’s better to sit on the sidelines and watch things unfold. Everyone knows Celtic will have something to say when the time is right, that time hasn’t arrived yet, although its getting closer
