KIERAN TIERNEY paid tribute to the Celtic support for their wonderful full-throttle backing during the 2-1 Champions League defeat against Bayern Munich at a 60,000 sell-out Parkhead last night.

The left-back, who has just agreed a new six-year deal with the Hoops, was outstanding yet again, but couldn’t prevent the heartbreaking defeat that ended the club’s interest in Europe’s top competition.

However, the classy 20-year-old international defender picked himself up to applaud the team’s remarkable followers.

He said: “It was a good performance from us, no doubt about it. I think the fans appreciated it, as well.

“They were great, as always. I would like to thank them for all their encouragement throughout.

“Of course, everyone is so disappointed. I think we played really well, but we came up against a great team who were very clinical.

“The main aim was to show we can improve at this level and also to show we are not going to be beaten so easily.

“We played the way we wanted to play and, at least, we got a goal for our efforts.”

On his new deal with the champions, Tierney added: “I am delighted to sign a long-term contract with the club I support.”
