The latest Celtic book from CQN, ‘That Season In Paradise’ by Alex Gordon, is out now and it is THE definitive annual of season 1966/67, the most monumental and memorable in the proud history of the club.
It is, of course, the remarkable campaign in which Jock Stein’s team majestically swept the boards at home and abroad, claiming every glittering prize that was possible.
The European Cup was won for the first time by a British team and it was stylishly added to the second successive League Championship, the Scottish Cup and the League Cup with even the Glasgow Cup thrown in for good measure.bkYJoP8xjerfQaHfWhE4i9gB2bvQupIPyLJrPP1iICA
As the author points out, David Coleman, the respected BBC TV commentator, said at the time: “Celtic would have won the Grand National and the Oxford/Cambridge Boat Race, too, if they had bothered to enter.”
This is Alex Gordon’s tenth Celtic book and is his fourth with CQN, following ‘Caesar and the Assassin’, ‘The Winds of Change’ and ‘All The Best with Tommy Gemmell’.
It’s a powerful, informative and compelling read from the first kick-off to the final whistle and covers ten months of Celtic Heaven. It stretches right from the 4-1 victory over Manchester United in a friendly at a packed Parkhead on August 6 1966 to a 1-0 triumph over Real Madrid at a sell-out Bernabeu on June 7 1967.
‘That Season In Paradise’ has all the inside features and interviews with the players during a truly spectacular campaign. All sixty-five games are detailed – the drama, the teams, the results and the glory.
Twenty-one players were used by Jock Stein throughout the ten months and each one is profiled in full in a comprehensive book that is an absolute must for Celtic supporters.
As Lisbon Lion Bertie Auld says: “‘That Season In Paradise’ perfectly captures the greatest year in the history of Celtic Football Club. Alex Gordon’s book takes me right back to that unforgettable campaign when I was delighted to be part of the Celtic team that won everything – including, of course, the European Cup. This makes me feel as though I am back in the Celtic dressing room!”
