That. Was. Incredible.

1667

Just a short blog today.  I found the notes for my speech this morning.  A lot of positive things should have been said about Tony (one of the nicest CQN’ers I’ve met, and I’ve lots of great CQN’ers), Jim (more committed to the welfare of others than he would be comfortable you knowing), and David (combines the cynicism you can only get by spending 30 years in the publishing business with an often incomprehensive enthusiasm and positivity).  Three people who make things happen.

The CQN Golf Committee have organised nine incredibly taxing CQN Charity Opens, which seems to require an addition to stress, as they clearly thrive on it.

I got my timing all wrong when I set the whisky auction to end at noon yesterday as I was otherwise engaged until late afternoon, when things were getting a bit hectic, but with minutes to go, E (abbreviated) stepped in with what was an opening and winning bid of £550.  The money is already with Mary’s Meals.  My thanks to E and to A Ceiler Gonof Rust, who donated the prize.

None of us had any experience at organising this kind of event.  You think all you need is a mic. and a few speakers!  I asked Phil Agnew if he would do the raffle and auction for us.  He ended up supplying what would have been thousands of pounds worth of consultancy, which saw us over the line, wouldn’t take a penny for his trouble and provided a print signed by Henrik Larsson from his daughter.  They are a family with a long-established link to Mary’s Meals.

The quality and sheer volume of donations for auction and raffle overwhelmed us. We made a call that it was probably wise to limit the number of items we put up last night, and hold some for a later date – all will go towards Mary’s Meals. Thanks to everyone who came forward.

These are just the thanks I didn’t get to last night, more to come.

I’ve no idea how much money you raised yet but I am sure the cash is in to build the second and third school kitchens.  Within weeks your buildings will be feeding circa 2700 of the poorest children on the planet.  That.  Is.  Incredible!  Well played CQN.

I’m not going to pester you to read the Magazine or buy the Seville book today, but the MyDonate like to Marys’ Meals……

  1. A fantastic night at a unique gathering of individuals

A big thanks to all at table 48 and to the Finnigans for going out of their way to drop me and AndyR home, a lovely family.

I met so many wonderful people old and new, it really was a joy. I especially enjoyed meeting up with Negano2, he’s a truly lovely guy.

Above all though, I left with BRTH’s inspired words ringing in my ears. We have made a big difference so far, but if we all get together we can do so much more . #changeacontinent

It was one of those rare nights when you left thinking I want to be a better person.

I spoke to Pablo’s brother Tony last night and he was full of praise for Pablo’s kids. He said it was all there own idea to donate the money. A fantastic gesture.

    Paul67,

    last night was indeed incredible.

Thoroughly enjoyed it. Was great meeting so many friends old and new…….and to actually make a night oot in itself was brilliant :-)

On amore serious subject, the money raised for the kids in Malawi through Mary’s Meals is testament yet again to the kindness and generosity of the Celtic support. Amazing effort. It was also warming, but very humbling to see how the money is actually used in the video shown last night. I think ther may have been a few CQNers with a tear in their eye at that point.

    HAIL! HAIL!

  6. The Battered Bunnet – rain has been on and off here all day and pretty blustery. Tell the EK boys to keep the high balls low.

CRC – I managed to get 10 of the 11 players right (had Jackie Mac in) but had opted for Gordon as manager. Close but no cigar.

Going to try to watch 10 minutes of the Dunfermline game. Wish me luck…

What an incredible night, made special by a truly wonderful group of human beings.

Heading in to The Independent on Queen St for an afternoon of Irish culture if anyone fancies it.

I believe BRTH is coming along so if anyone wishes to buy him a drink for his incredible efforts then I’m sure he’ll accept willingly. If not the Minx has said she’ll be happy to oblige.

  8. Hi Paul, just popped in to say thanks for a great night out. Your speech and the videos were very humbling. Thanks to BRTH and Winning Captains for their organisation.

Big thanks to all the other CQN’ers I met, too numerous to mention, but I’ll give a few of them a menchie,

ACGR, Sipsini, MickTT, Morissey23rd, MightyTim, Oldtim67, TimsinOhio and I also managed a fleeting hello to Jobo Baldie.

    Wasn’t in mine either :-) ( for FGF )

  10. The Token Tim –

agree about the video. The 12-year old “mother” was heartbreaking.

I mentioned to a few folk last night that I smiled when I realised that the writing on the sign for the kitchen was in blue. Just something else that sets us apart I feel – would never have been ‘allowed’ by certain other fans.

I know this is from 2012 but hearing the tune last night and wee Oscars Mam talking of the tears that were shed when the money came in at just the moment it was needed to get them over that particular line at that particular time.

Sounds like it was a great night well done to all involved.

Watching the city hull game now, I thought for a minute Sammi had gone to Hull. George Boyd couple be our hair apparent.

  14. All happening at Citeh with Boyd going down looking at Pen against Hart.

Hart furious gets up and rubs his head against Boyd’s face and gets a yellow.

  15. Well done to Charlie Mulgrew last night. Slotted into centre-back and did a job for us again.

I was never a fan of players returning to clubs for a second spell but Charlie has certainly proved me wrong with that theory.

  16. Having a day in reading ” Seville the Celtic Movement” as you would expect from BRTH the prose are colourful and descriptive, and there are some great photos to boot. If you haven’t got it yet, I can recommend it. Thanks to all CQNers who signed it.

I don’t have the vocabulary to sufficiently describe how proud I am to be part of the Celtic and CQN community.

A terrific night last night and in Mary’s Meals CQN could not support a more worthy cause – a direct link to Walfrid, feeding poor and hungry children.

The heartfelt words of the Knox’s, the reminder of the spirit of pablophanque, of what this community achieved with KANO, the Kano foundation: all incredible unintended consequences of you starting a blog and all incredibly moving.

The rousing reception for Zbyszek was a highlight for me too.

Only one thing missing for me and that is your pal that suggested starting a blog in the first place….Rangers supporter or not, it would have been great to thank him for planting the seed.

Last observation from me….I couldn’t help but try to imagine how proud your dad, Martin42, must be of the things achieved by you and the CQN community when you were talking about him last night.

I know you’re a modest man Paul but take a bow, you’re a credit to Celtic.

  19. 20 minutes left for Dunfermline to equalise then get a winner. It could happen. And at 40/1 in play it was worth risking 5 shillings ;-)

Glad to have met some of the guys from the Harp bus that I was once a member of. Happier still that Groucho wasn’t amonst their number last night.

  24. On the Dream Team – what a job the guys did there! A few observations on our democratically selected team.

I had a lovely chat with Martin42 last night and we both share the view that participants on Black Sunday should not be included in any dream team.

Also if you look at the team it is clear that the most successful manager – ie his players selected – is Neil Lennon.

Martin42 is going to write a lovely feature for the next edition of Cqn Magazine on wee Jinky.

Big shout from me to Pat Mcginley – he played an enormous role in the background. From now on only one place for us all to go for tyres and the special £10 Cqn Mot.

Going through the night we referenced Walfrid, opened with our version of the John Thomson song – how brave was that wee girl? – we should respect to the 60s team on the programme cover and at the Lions table.

Tommy Boyd – a great CQNer – represented the more recent history of our club and of course the Dream Team gave our nod to all the players in the CQTEN years.

We even managed to have the current crop playing and winning on the big screens.

Unforgettable night – thanks to every single one of you.

And don’t forget to get your copy of the very special Seville book – it is about YOU!

  25. Well, Collum did his reputation no harm at all last night. 2 stonewall penalty kicks denied. I wonder what Broonie and Stokes said to him afterwards. You wonder what it must take for Celtic to be given a penalty by him. We know only too well what it takes for him to give one against us…..

  26. BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS .........FC not PLC on

    DANSO1888

I agree, absolutely ridiculous that this has become accepted fact.

Apart from the obvious problem that they are a new club, founded and funded in 2012,the original always celebrated their roots as 1873.

    Until Whyte took over.

It then became 1872,no doubt to celebrate their 9iar in their 125 and their Euro win in their centenary. Both massively tainted,of course.

So why does their stadium have 1873 in with the bricks-literally-and include The Centenary Stand-opened 1973?

Load of bollix, same as everything that comes outa that place.

Facts not fit? Nae bother, just make them up.

  27. Tom Boyd looks as though he could still be playing!

And don’t start me on Paul67 who appears to be getting younger every time I see him.

  28. Afternoon all, first post, as a result of an incredible event last night, a big congratulations to all involved, also ,as has been said many times on here, great to put faces to names.

Even managed to win a prize, kindly donated by Pat McGinlay.

Don’t really have the words to express just how proud everyone at our table was given the efforts of fellow celtic fans.

  29. Just tuned into Sky Sports, and the first thing I see was completely fitting for the headline of this CQN article…

    That. Was. Incredible.

If that is so clearly a red card that the ref has the card out before the tackle is even finished, then Virgil should be sent off EVERY game!

Even when they’ve already sewn up the title the MiBs just can’t help themselves!

(And I notice that our late penalty shout from last night wasn’t even worthy of the BBC match highlights. Does anyone have a video link to that one?)

  30. Paul67

Just to reiterate my post just after 2:00am this morning – fantastic night and a wonderful effort by all those involved. CQN at its best – those who attended and importantly those who were with us in spirit.

Great company with Cowiebhoy, Family and Friends at table 6. Doc and CRC for the badges – getting my original CQN one replaced (it went MIA Barcelona 2013) meant a lot to me.

Caught up with many I knew and many I’ve exchanged posts with. Apologies to those I missed – unbelievably 6 hours in the KDS was insufficient time to; meet, greet and hug the many good Celtic CQN Men and Women in attendance last night.

We need to do this getting together more often!

For me – last night’s gathering and purpose truly reaffirms Brother Walfrid’s reasons for setting up this Charitable Giant of a Club of ours. Glad I’ve been part of it for 60+ years!
