That. Was. Incredible.

Just a short blog today.  I found the notes for my speech this morning.  A lot of positive things should have been said about Tony (one of the nicest CQN’ers I’ve met, and I’ve lots of great CQN’ers), Jim (more committed to the welfare of others than he would be comfortable you knowing), and David (combines the cynicism you can only get by spending 30 years in the publishing business with an often incomprehensive enthusiasm and positivity).  Three people who make things happen.

The CQN Golf Committee have organised nine incredibly taxing CQN Charity Opens, which seems to require an addition to stress, as they clearly thrive on it.

I got my timing all wrong when I set the whisky auction to end at noon yesterday as I was otherwise engaged until late afternoon, when things were getting a bit hectic, but with minutes to go, E (abbreviated) stepped in with what was an opening and winning bid of £550.  The money is already with Mary’s Meals.  My thanks to E and to A Ceiler Gonof Rust, who donated the prize.

None of us had any experience at organising this kind of event.  You think all you need is a mic. and a few speakers!  I asked Phil Agnew if he would do the raffle and auction for us.  He ended up supplying what would have been thousands of pounds worth of consultancy, which saw us over the line, wouldn’t take a penny for his trouble and provided a print signed by Henrik Larsson from his daughter.  They are a family with a long-established link to Mary’s Meals.

The quality and sheer volume of donations for auction and raffle overwhelmed us. We made a call that it was probably wise to limit the number of items we put up last night, and hold some for a later date – all will go towards Mary’s Meals. Thanks to everyone who came forward.

These are just the thanks I didn’t get to last night, more to come.

I’ve no idea how much money you raised yet but I am sure the cash is in to build the second and third school kitchens.  Within weeks your buildings will be feeding circa 2700 of the poorest children on the planet.  That.  Is.  Incredible!  Well played CQN.

I’m not going to pester you to read the Magazine or buy the Seville book today, but the MyDonate like to Marys’ Meals……

Thanks to Paul and BRTH and WC and all of the willing helpers for a great evening last night.

It was a pleasure to be in the company of Subterranean and TBB, and their very lovely better halves. Due to last minute call offs Lemonettes III , IV and their Aunty Pauline stepped in at the last minute to make up the numbers . They all were much impressed by a combination of things.

Aunty Pauline by the ethos of the CQN, the reaching Mary’s Meals and Wee Oscar, the spirit of love and giving and Subs natty specs. She says it’s not her fault she works beside Willie Collum and he’s a nice man when you get to know him

The Lemonettes were fair taken on with the chanting and in awe of TBB’s obvious worldliness, spiffy dress sense and particularly his footwear.

Me and the Abbot were too shy to to speak to many regular posters but, for the record, DBBIA is a lot older looking than he types, Left Click is a lot thinner than he types but Curly has a little hair as his typing would lead one to conclude. I can also see why BRTH left the Law. He’s born to be on stage. Jurisprudence’s loss is showbiz’s gain.

I managed six in the team, three on the bench and the manager. Probably relegation fodder if there’s to be a league table.

After his recent media blitz, Aiden was, in any case, a free transfer for Gross Misconduct so I’m happy enough he didn’t feature. The other rejection, Robbie Keane, remains, to me, a Roll-Royce in a garage full of Mondeos and one Monster Truck.

I recommend Google-Mapping the school kitchen areas. It provided me with an enjoyable education in their position in Malawi as well as Malawi’s position along the Great Rift in Africa.

I won’t hear a bad word said against my second favourite under cover agent ! Take it back

  5. OMG, the Zombie Moll has just collapsed on the floor. Both of them are completely paralytic. The poor Ticket Inspector and the Trolley Attendant (also female) have just picked her up and lay her down across a couple of seats. The male Zombie seems to want to be woken up to get off at Dundee – after paying the £42 fare…! Not by me, cos that’s where I am going – they seem Aberdeen is nice at this time of year.

Did TBB sport his purple cowboy boots with the gold spurs last night ? Worth the admission price alone.

  8. GlasgowDave,

If you are going to Celtic Park next Saturday I’ll be in front of the Pools Office from around 2pm you can collect CQteN badges from there.

Winning Captains, so busy last night I didn’t give you the badges for the Virtual tickets, I’ll give them next Saturday, if yourself or my Dad(BRTH) can collect?:-) he’ll never live that down now!

I’m not even going to try to go through the names of those I met yesterday, I will only say it was a pleasure to meet each and every one of you, I’m honoured to know you.

    Stars, everyone of you.

Okay, I have to give a special mention to Tom Boyd, thanks for coming, a pleasure to have you at my table, your a credit to our club. I’ll get the hat to you via Kikinthenakas.

I think Neganon has proven that choosing to be continually constructively critical of Celtic irrevocably proves that to do so is the act of a passionate well adjusted Tim ;-) I find it moronic to continually cheerlead. Fine if its positive support ..especially if you take the time and effort like SFTB …who has helped me enormously to think about it. When it gets to the cheerleading and the subsequent inevitable character assassinations its on a par with catchphrase humour. Zzzzzzzzz.

CQN has become a fantastic community but we should all do more to maintain standards and decorum as its the core of the community. It also makes hun spotting easier. ;-)

I lost the opportunity to thank you in that last post but Thanks. I don’t always agree with you and over the last few years I feel less enamoured with the arguments presented to protect where we have seriously erred but although I will die a tim your postings have helped me KTF so to speak. So a genuine THANKS. Your historical ..I.e before my time and Winning Gemmels are amongst the best reading on here.

And apologies for the many arguments ..debates..opinions.. I have started but failed to finish. Nothing to do with you and everything about my hectic existence.
