That. Was. Incredible.

1667

Just a short blog today.  I found the notes for my speech this morning.  A lot of positive things should have been said about Tony (one of the nicest CQN’ers I’ve met, and I’ve lots of great CQN’ers), Jim (more committed to the welfare of others than he would be comfortable you knowing), and David (combines the cynicism you can only get by spending 30 years in the publishing business with an often incomprehensive enthusiasm and positivity).  Three people who make things happen.

The CQN Golf Committee have organised nine incredibly taxing CQN Charity Opens, which seems to require an addition to stress, as they clearly thrive on it.

I got my timing all wrong when I set the whisky auction to end at noon yesterday as I was otherwise engaged until late afternoon, when things were getting a bit hectic, but with minutes to go, E (abbreviated) stepped in with what was an opening and winning bid of £550.  The money is already with Mary’s Meals.  My thanks to E and to A Ceiler Gonof Rust, who donated the prize.

None of us had any experience at organising this kind of event.  You think all you need is a mic. and a few speakers!  I asked Phil Agnew if he would do the raffle and auction for us.  He ended up supplying what would have been thousands of pounds worth of consultancy, which saw us over the line, wouldn’t take a penny for his trouble and provided a print signed by Henrik Larsson from his daughter.  They are a family with a long-established link to Mary’s Meals.

The quality and sheer volume of donations for auction and raffle overwhelmed us. We made a call that it was probably wise to limit the number of items we put up last night, and hold some for a later date – all will go towards Mary’s Meals. Thanks to everyone who came forward.

These are just the thanks I didn’t get to last night, more to come.

I’ve no idea how much money you raised yet but I am sure the cash is in to build the second and third school kitchens.  Within weeks your buildings will be feeding circa 2700 of the poorest children on the planet.  That.  Is.  Incredible!  Well played CQN.

I’m not going to pester you to read the Magazine or buy the Seville book today, but the MyDonate like to Marys’ Meals……

  1. So let’s just say for talking sake we got thems in the semis at there midden, would that mean that we would only get 13,000 briefs as well? Surely not, if this is all true then this falls way short of a neutral venue, and takes away the integrity and level playing field of the competition, some will prob. Disagree with me but I doubt very Much if CFC would put up with that, and neither should Dundee Untd.

I got this on FC from Pablopahnques Daughter.

Absolutely brilliant night at Parkhead last night, over 300 of my dads closest friends were all there and we couldn’t have felt more welcome! The director of CelticQuickNews even gave a heart warming thank you speech about my Dad for helping donate to charity’s within Celtic and even starting his own charity by making and selling Celtic badges, to get a complete stranger at the time the help he needed. Just shows you there are real good people out there felt so proud to say I was Stevens daughter last night that’s for sure! Legend Dad!

BSR – just surprised because I don’t remember them taking much more than that even for a cup final. Could be wrong!

TD – I think there was an agreement between us and thon deid team that the usual segregation applied for cup games, i.e. same split as league games.

Oh I understand that danso, but my point was, I don’t think it would have happened if we where in the semi against thems, and on that point Untd. Should appeal on the ticket allocation.

On the subject of shooting fish in a barrel:

Reading back last night’s match updates, it was very kind of the grown-ups to leave two new toys for the still on-line lhads to play with whilst the party was in full flow.

Unfortunately, the toys proved to be less than robust and fell apart within an hour.

Listened to Eddie Toner on Desert Island Tims with Billy No’Well and apart from being good craig and music Eddie gives some thought-provoking commentary on where he is as a Celtic supporter and it must be troubling for the board if they listen to such stalwarts as Eddie.

I have never pretended to be the uber-Tim, like Eddie but share his concerns.

I can see the boards failure to manage events following the demise of Rangers to be as big a crisis (if not bigger) than the one we faced in 1994.

Then we faced financial problems but the heart and sould of the support (without which there is no Celtic) was good and responded in the proper manner.

Now we don’t have the money problems thanks to the glorious balance sheet, but there is a danger that the disconnect between board and fans caused by the board’s actions and lack of action might destroy the ethos of the club and with it the very heart and soul that carried us through a long history of external hostilities.

BSR – an Arabs v Sheep sell-out final with 60,000 in Parkhead would really make a nonsense of their armageddon theory.

TD – don’t forget, the agreement was with another club! When was Hampden ever out of action in the past?

Just talking about that this morning. Sounds like a plan. So many bhoys I didn’t get a chance to catch up with. Would like to go back to look for my voice anyway!

  22. Paul looks like I missed a great night last night. What a fantastic effort by yourself and the rest of the organisers to raise the money for such a great cause. Well down everyone…

  23. Craigellachie10 on

Much as I hate to defend the SFA, they may have the allocation right. When it comes to cup semis and finals some recognition should be taken of the respective clubs regular attendance/season ticket holders. On that basis as I would estimate that Sevco have approximately 3 times as many as United the allocation is understandable.

That said it would have been interesting what the allocation would have been had we been drawn against them. It will also be interesting to see what happens when finals and semis return to Hampden, will this be a precedent, if so we can lol forward to the lions share of tickets for all future showpiece games.

A tribute to Paul and all those involved in such selfless acts of caring:

Abou Ben Adhem by Leigh Hunt, who loved in fellow man unconditionally.

“Abou Ben Adhem (may his tribe increase)

Awoke one night from a deep dream of peace,

And saw within the moonlight of his room,

Making it rich and like a lily in bloom,

An angel writing in a book of gold,

Exceeding peace had made Ben Adhem bold,

And to the presence in the room he said:

“What writest thou?” – the vision raised its head,

And, with a look made of all sweet accord,

Answered, “The names of those who love the Lord.”

“And is mine one?” said Abou. “Nay, not so,”

Replied the angel, – Abou spoke more low,

But cheerily still; and said, “I pray thee, then,

Write me as one that loves his fellow men.”

The angel wrote, and vanished. The next night

It came again, with a great wakening light,

And showed the names whom love of God had blessed,

And, lo! Ben Adhem’s name led all the rest!”

  25. Big Nan

Have to reply to your last post. Your talk of the ethos of the club being destroyed by the board is nonsense. Those who gathered together last night didn’t give a toss about the board. We will always be there no matter what constitutes the “board”.

Some of you place an emphasis on the board that means little to us lowly fans.

As supporters we’ll always be there -you might not.
