That’s all folks!

The defence has seen most additions. Jozo Simunovic, Saidy Janko and Dedryck Boyata arrived, with Tyler Blackett on loan from Manchester United. Belgian, Logan Bailly, came in as our backup keeper after a decent career in Belgium, Germany and Switzerland.

Two attacking midfielders were signed: Scott Allan, who has made a couple of cameo appearances, and Ryan Christie, who will further gestate in Inverness until the end of the season.

Nadir Ciftci was the manager’s primary striking target, and although he arrived early in the window, his start has been hampered by a six game domestic ban, while the Champions League qualifiers arrived too early for him. A lot of store is being placed on his and Leigh Griffiths’ shoulders.

Will they be stronger than the Griffiths, Scepovic, Guidetti offering of last season? Will they be good enough for the challenge ahead? Place your bets ladies and gentlemen (and opposed to send me inappropriately emotional messages).

I read lots of comment about Steven Fletcher or and Michu potentially coming to Celtic over the last few days. They were players who Celtic enquired about earlier in the window but neither was interested in coming to Scotland. They are in the league they want to play in, we were not remotely on their radar.

Oh, and the van Dijk deal was for £13m, not the £11.5m reported earlier. Think we might have some Fraser/Victor reflected value in this deal.

That’s all folks!

  1. So we wasted whole window chasing 2 duds who made it clear they were my interested in coming to us.. Jaysus great work Celtic.

I’m as we didn’t get them but to say they weren’t interested in Us weeks ago and we still spent time pursuing just shows we are taken for mugs.

Least we got our number 1 target from Dundee United .

What’s your thoughts paul67 on the strikers we have been left with ??

  2. GORDYBHOY64 @ 12:05 AM,

“that in no way suggests a net spend”

It says – Celtic spent over £8M in transfers – yes.

Well we know they got in over £15M from transfers in.

Therefore if they spent over £8M in transfers….

    Then logically 15M + 8M = 23M ergo they spent over £23M in transfers… yes?

So otherwise if it was 15M – 8M as I’m calculating it – it would not be a spend but a gain of 7M.

So Celtic would not have spent over £8M in transfers, Celtic would have gained £7M in transfers.

    Hail Hail

  3. Adam Rooney and Stevie May would have been underwhelming but they were attainable and proven strikers in SPFL. Even those 2 would have made some kind of sense but no Strikers added given Ciftci less than impressive showing so far makes no sense to me…

  4. Pants – heading for Europa League elimination and SPL mid table mediocrity. What a joke we have become.

If that’s all that bothering you, then you’ll be back by tomorrow.

The striker market is a no go area for Celtic, unless you want Ross McCormack for north of

    £10m ( yes, Ross McCormack ) a non entity.

Simunovic fits the wage bill, despite his fee. A £4m/£5m striker wouldn’t it’s a different market, and

they won’t come to CP unless they’re offered 20k salary, ( and they won’t be)

setting free the bears has set this out, many times, in the past few seasons years

We will not punt big and break the wage policy, as well, we’ll wait for another diamond in the midden,

starting again in January, or sign an out of contract punt.

  6. chairbhoy,

sorry but all that Paul67 says is that we spent £8M,

he doesn’t any money we took in,

therefore he doesn’t discuss net spend,

I am sure everyone on the blog knows we didn’t spend more than we took in

  7. There has to be an explanation. I’m looking forward to Lawwell explaining it all….

Paul67 – looking forward to your next leader and hopefully some objective analysis…..

  8. why do people keep saying we can’t afford players fro EPL…we know that so why fucckin look at them!

  9. tell you what though.

Is today an indication that the Board have lost faith in Ronnie. Are we saving our pennies for a new manager?

    ====================================================================================

    I sincerely hope so.

  11. I have just logged in and it appears we are nipping each other a bit.

It is good to differ and also to debate with those you thought you never would.

I am in a student, cool bar right now; suit on. They all think I am a square but I know all the tunes.

Mix up your life, don’t hang out with people who did the same, think the same. So many clones on here

  12. GORDYBHOY64 @ 12:33 AM,

Paul67, said he’ll go into more detail, I’m sure he will. I agree with Paul 95% of the time. But I was selling rolls since I was 10 years old.

Half a dozen rolls cost 10p

If someone wanted two dozen rolls that was 40p

If they gave me 50p they got 10p change.

    It really isn’t rocket science.

We made money out of our transfer activities this Summer.

    That’s a gain, not a spend – simples.

Just looking forward to Paul’s take. Yours too, to be honest, what do you think?

    But don’t question the maths:-)

  13. 16 roads - Celtic über alles... on

    Remember the Celtic view?

    Wishing yer life away?

Every Wednesday if memory serves me correctly.

Bolted up to the newsagents before they all disappeared.

Couldn’t wait for the week to go by, then the next issue.

    Happiness.

Social media was supposed to be a counter to the msm propaganda.

It’s grim sometimes, dire in fact.

    Anyway, KTF.

  14. What a very unpleasant place this is.

I do not know why so many on here can’t detail the reasons for their unhappiness without resorting to personal abuse aimed at PL or RD or DD or other posters.

For all I know, and I’m no lawyer, some of it may also be libellous.

What has happened to this place?

Seems that expressing yourself by shouting (figuratively) or being extreme or being inflammatory somehow adds weight to the argument. I’d have thought the opposite was true.

Supporters always take contradictory positions over players, tactics, managers and even idols. That is a given but it surely doesn’t mean supporters come to blows with one another, or you verbally abuse your best pal or refuse to travel in the supporters bus? On here that is effectively what happens… not very edifying.

It very strange how things have got much worse since Rangers 1873 went kaput! You’d have thought there could be no more unifying event possible. The opposite has turned out to be true.

I have my own views which for the purposes of this meagre effort I am trying to suppress in order to objectively assess the content of today’s postings. Postings incidentally now so typical…incendiary and dogmatic and wearily repetitive.

It is no longer a debate, its a shouting match where loudest and greatest stamina means a ‘win’, getting one over, putting someone in their place…

It’s not about everyone having the same opinion nor about not pulling someone up on some issue or other but surely a bit of respect is not too much to ask.

I wonder if any of the more actively strident posters ever try to see the alternative point of view, to put their feet into the other guys shoes? It might help improve the quality of the contributions all round.

It amazes me how agitated (putting it mildly) folk get using a platform, an electronic medium, using few words, exchanging with people they probably don’t know, in a tiny pool of say 50 active contributors out of a pool of 200/300 (?). How/why does that happen? Bizarre!

It’s not the real world… it’s a virtual environment… an alternative universe. Maybe that’s the problem…we can virtually punch the guy on the nose, virtually verbally abuse him and virtually think no harm is done?

I’m a bit wearied with it to be honest and I’m probably sounding just too holier than thou but its not good in here anymore. Not much respect, not much charity and not much empathy.

My absence for a while will have no impact. My contributions are very occasional (except on the subject of a 14 team league with really clever split arrangement over which I have copyright. It’s really quite brilliant actually lol) and even when I think they’re really good few others do. Mostly they are, quite correctly, ignored lol.

Anyway…I’m ground down and depressed with the aggressive unpleasantness which now seems to carry the day so best to wave adieu…..for now.

    Try to be good bhoys!

    Maradominic,

    I can’t.

    That’s not what I said.

I said I’m guessing we now have half a dozen guys who netted ten goals last season.

Shift key, johansen, Kris, leigh, gms probably did. (someone will correct me)

Armstrong and mcgregor probably aren’t far away. And Stokes would give at least that if given game time.

Hey don’t get me wrong, I’d like a wee bit more quality up front than what we currently have but I’m not gonna wet ma pants till it happens

Good post. I have absented myself from CQN as it has lots it’s way since its early days….

However I am ranting tonight because I’m genuinely fearing for our club under the leadership of Peter Lawwell. I guess my ranting and that of others will have zero impact…however the alternative is to meekly accept the unacceptable?

  19. chairbhoy,

sorry but I will question the maths one last time,

all Paul67 says is we spent around £8m,which is pretty much the case,

not that we spent more than we took in.

My view on the transfer widow is that we have again gambled too much on players

who may turn out good, but I wont write them off,

and that we have left ourselves short in the striking department,

  20. Disappointed we did not get a striker.

The excuse of they didnae want to come is poor.

We should have asked that question first and only held talks with those who did.

Part of our problem on the field is we are a reactionary side and it looks like in the custodians office also.

There have been some good moves in this window but we never seem capable of addressing all of our weak areas.

The next window should be the one where any weaknesses are addressed and no more excuses of we tried(and failed) should be acceptable.

Also the name calling on here is uncalled for.

Those claiming to be better Celtic supporters than others need to stop.

    It’s hunlike behaviour.

  21. How many times in the last 10-15 years have we been pumped by a much smaller club in Europe? These sides always seem to have wage bills a fraction of ours but seem faster, fitter, more skilful and have a better togetherness on the park than we display.

From Basel in the SEVILLE season to Malmo it has been a constant.

    How do we change this?

We should have beaten Malmo and if we had this window would have been different. We would have had Jason Denayer and a striker.

If we get drawn in the quarter final of the Scottish or League Cup away to Aberdeen then that’s as tough as it gets and we could lose. Sometimes you need some luck in the draw. Malmo was the hardest opponent we could get – the equivalent of a trip to Pittodrie if you look at the quality of potential opponents.

RONNY is very much building Celtic for the future. The young players coming in, sending others on loan to get first team experience and a much bigger interest and influence in the development of players at all levels.

Think back to that RONNY lecture video which a Norwegian boy added English subtitles to. It tells you all you need to know about what RONNY is trying to achieve at Celtic.

He has also said he wants a smaller first team squad and as he only ever plays with one striker perhaps he reckons that is enough.

We had an article on CQN earlier in the day in which RONNY stated that Leigh Griffiths was his number one striker. Someone coming in would have been on the bench awaiting his chance.

I mentioned previously that RONNY is an admirer of the young Aberdeen development striker who came on as s sub the last time we were up there and almost scored with his first touch. The boy is a poacher.

So this is where the RONNY revolution is taking us.

My biggest concern is his one tactic fits all situations. Big Efe was a top player for us until Spartak Moscow exposed a few weaknesses in his game and targeted. No- one cared or remembered as we won but Juventus lay in wait and after a very bright Celtic start they exposed this weakness and scored. Remember?

Every European opponent will know what to expect from us, where our weaknesses are and how we will play. If Ronny fails to take notice of this he’s in trouble.

It worried me lsst year and still does that we do not have a more senior football man at the club who can fight Ronny’s corner with the board – if required, can assist with European experience and tactics (4-5-1 shut up shop stuff) and can set up a formation to outwit your opponent.

Someone who could take Ronny’s brief and find him his striker who wants to come and play for Celtic.

I said last year that Davie Hay could do that job. He would if needed stand up to the board. He could have helped avoid the disaster in Malmo – RONNY said ‘blame me’ and I do! He could have got us s striker too. Think back to his record in that department.

    All that is fin

  22. We have the best attacking line in Scotland

Not a CF, the system relies on the midfield.

    I played a 7 a side tournament last week

I played forward with a girl(3 points) and the tactic was that a girl scores

I ran wide and drew the defence, knocking it inside for the guys in the middle

    Worked a treat

    I didn’t score

    A forward doesn’t have to

  23. Proudbhoy. It’s not rocket science. We all know how peter lawwell works. Not interested in the first 11 team or how it plays or stars in the team

Live with it or protest. Boycott Celtic stores etc

    It’s the only way

Never have i feared for our team In the last 18 years years like I fear now

No experience at back and one striker

  24. GORDYBHOY64 @ 12:54 AM,

“and takes Celtic’s spend this window to over £8m.”

And I guess we’ve left the maths and are into semantics.

I would say over the course of this window it takes Celtic to a £7M gain.

Knew a few guys down the bookies that used the other semantics…

    Up £100.00 ten pound on a 10/1…. Schweet….

What they don’t tell you about is the other eleven £10.00 bets they made, that didn’t come in.

    Hoo~ Hum

    So we’ll agree to differ.

You think we spent £8M+ on transfers…

    I think we made £7M+ on transfers…
