That’s not an outbreak of Tourettes you hear

715

No, that’s not an outbreak of Tourettes across small patches in the west of Scotland, it is the long-suffering Newco fans realisation that their board have been breathtakingly incompetent in their attempts to recruit a manager.

In many respects, briefing the media ahead of their two games against Aberdeen and an AGM that Derek McInnes would be installed at Ibrox this week, had the desired effect. The players were sufficiently motivated to out-perform Aberdeen, while Dave King got through the AGM on a nod and a wink. The falsehood of the assertion, however, will surely come at a cost. King will hope that memories fade before he has to face fans again in 51 weeks.

My immediate reaction when I read the ridiculous statement from Newco last night was that their hilarious PR system was at the keyboard while jaked. They spend six weeks targeting McInnes, then, after he rejected them, claimed this was evidence he was not up to the job.

An obscure phrase was used, “concomitant risk”, instead of the more common “associated risk”. There’s a fair bit of research into why people unnecessarily use complex and obscure words instead of simpler alternatives. None of it is flattering.

I assumed the statement was the work of Newco’s shamlessly-brilliant PR operation, but a studious CQN’er emailed this clip of Dave King’s AGM speech last year.

4 minutes 29 seconds in he states they should: “run an operating deficit, without a concomitant event risk that could lead to a repeat of the last few years”. Last night’s statement has Dave’s tones all over it.  Fewer and fewer people compliment the emperor on his new outfit.

A big thanks to teams two and three in the league, who have damaged their positions and/or humiliated themselves, while Celtic have extended their lead at the top of the table.

Happy Birthday to CRC and hope young MissCRC did as well as she would have wished in Dundee.

Reading back from a long way and the blog has been great!

Hope the Bhoys of the Old BV enjoyed their day/evening/night out…..

  2. I don`t think it is such a bad game. Some decent skill, plenty of effort, one excellent save and a couple of chances. Maybe I am biased but Ryan Christie looks the class act on the field.

Neil Lennon just said that he thought it was a 50/50 first half. I felt more 55/45 i favour of the Dons.

  3. Looks like a Judicial Review is dead and Res12 is the only show in town in terms of how did the SFA handle the issue of the UEFA 2011 licence, not only in 2011 relating to granting and monitoring but in correspondence with Celtic and shareholder representatives from 2014/15.

    https://www.sfm.scot/fans-for-judicial-review-counsel-opinion/

It is essential for the restoration of trust in the fair governance of Scottish football that the investigation by the SFA Compliance Officer is not limited to events in 2011 alone but to all aspects relating to how the SFA dealt with enquiries from Celtic and those shareholders who support Resolution 12.

    PHILBHOY,

He has relatively recently retired, but still continues to submit an odd article to the Sunday Times.

It is not so much now, but during this era of cheating and lying, he was a weekly columnist, along with other national broadsheet big hitters.

They covered scandals all over the sporting world, including cycling, Olympics, FIFA, etc.

Perhaps I expected more from him because he was proudly Scottish, with a strong affection for the Scottish game.

There was obviously an Omerta decision made at some level in the newspaper world.

Either that or we have got it completely wrong.

Ryan Christie is the best player on the pitch. He’s trying almost too hard. A wee bit of composure and he will make the difference. You can see why Aberdeen struggle without him.

How much more did you expect from McIlvanney?

As much as you would expect from Bonnar, Walker, McLeod, Burley, Nicholas et al?

Wow. You ain’t had a pizza until you’ve been there

I’ve been in the one on GW Rd. Pizza was nice enough but no better than the pizzas I remember in O Solo Mio 40 years ago.

I will wait for BRTH’s thoughts on this decision, I remeber him saying any opinion is only that an opinion, if there is no Judicial Review which the SFA are terrified of, the game is up and the cheats can continue to cheat. I have no doubt that the Compliance Officer will find some long grass into which he can kick the licence issue, to me the time will not be getting used to look at all the information but as a way to cool the heat of this issue and allow it to die.

Forty years ago the pizza I knew came from Pepe’s, were deep fried and tasted great.

Each to their own, I prefer Paesano style now.

  10. JMCCORMICK-pepe’s!brings back memories but not pizza ones.A wee place in Torra Blanca :-)))

  11. Not sure if we can move onto football games in the future or we can still laugh at the Govan farce treading the boards 8 days a week and twice on Thursdays.

However big even huge game on Sunday at ER.

I think there will be big changes as I think BR has worked out that evolution is not the way to get a better team on the park — some surgery is required plus some targeted investment and a bit of succession planning.

My thoughts are that SB is our most effective MF at the moment but he is not showing the leadership or drive on the park to turn us into winners. Great in the SPL but a bit toothless in Europe. The captaincy needs new blood, a new attitude and fresh impetus.

For the record KT should be the next captain but one — 2020’ish.

If we are going to let it go this is the game to make the most of our situation.

    The record would be 67.

NL would be the guy to break the run.

Plus the my pet Hibbee on the shop floor in Cov would be very happy.

Ian Archer was a huge Jags supporter. He had an affection for us though. Lovely intelligent man who I met as a child. Thought he was English by his accent. Don’t know where his accent came fae?

Tried a deep fried pizza supper as a teenager. First and last time. Just had a thin crust Napolitana anchovies and black olives and capers. Magic :)

*remember being on a caravan holiday in Prestwick and pallying about with these “english” lads there, many many years later I mentioned it to my mother, she laughed and said “they weren’t english son, they were from Bearsden and just spoke politer than us”.

  15. DD-you quite rightly asked me the other night why I would call Bonner a fud.You obviously have a wee bit better knowledge of him personally than I do.I listen to him on the radio and I know a few guys who were about when he was a coach at Celtic under TOMMY,not the nicest of person

On the money with that choice: Paesano do one just like that. I also have a place in Manchester who do a blinding Margerita with my choice of added black olives and anchovies, pretty good but not as good as the Glasgow one.

I attended Saint Thomas Aquinas school Jordanhill. When we played Jordanhill across the road at rugger, it was like playing guys wi English posh accents. Surreal that they stayed in the same area as us.

    Philbhoy,

Hugh was a Scottish sports journalist. I don’t see the correlation between him and former Celtic players.

He had no cultural or any other connection to Celtic.

    Delaney’s Donkey,

Ian Archer was born in a Nursing Home in Wilton St. Maryhill, Kelvinside, if you were posh.

My mother was in the next bed to his mother, having produced my brother.

He was brought up in England.

Thanks again for the kind birthday wishes and indeed good luck wishes for Caityrollercoaster today. Seems to have gone well, but 10 interviews/role play scenarios/grilling of 7 mins each very much tired her. She was so nervous, slightly apprehensive but very calm before hand and very relieved afterwards. Very proud of her today ( as everyday) and she even took me ( and paid for) a birthday lunch prior to her interview. Not bad for a 17 year old. A good kid all round.

BMCUWP, your niece has been amazing and provided so much support and I have told Caitlyn that if successful she now has the baton….

    Glasgow interview on Wednesday beckons.

Still waiting to hear from Aberdeen, and Edinburgh do not interview but rely upon the UKCAT exam.

Amazing and proud times as a parent, but must be so tough for the kids

    Thanks again fholks

  20. Normally I would be hoping the sheep dropped points tonight in the battle of the Morton fans but not now as not only does it put them back in 2nd place but also sends ebt’s team to the cusp of the relegation zone, a nice wee point or 3 for Owen Coyle’s granny’s grandson’ side the morra would be nicer.

Fair play pal. I met Pat Bonner in the company of my girl at the time. He treated us like king and queen. A lovely generous man in 1983. Hope he hisnae changed too much since.
