The ‘Be careful for what you wish for’ game.

408

It’s hard to say, was this the easiest game against Newco, easier than either of the 5-1 wins last season?  Was it our easiest game against both the Rangers group of clubs? I think it might have been.  There were some games back in the early 80s I recall, but none finished with a four goal advantage.  What about 7-1? I hear you say.  Sure, but I am assured the gap between the teams in 1957 was poorly illustrated by that game.

Make it a matter of record, at no point have Newco been further behind Celtic on or off the field, not even when we won the Premiership under Ronny and they finished third in the Championship, or in a lower league.

The closest we came to conceding was from serial-threat-to-Craig Gordon, Mikael Lustig, who spectacularly sliced a ball against the crossbar.  Craig pulled off another three fine saves within a few moments of that incident, with the score at 3-0 and Celtic apparently napping.  But honestly, this was our most dominant game of the season.

Tom Rogic, Callum McGregor and Moussa Dembele each like a goal against that lot and they filled their boots yesterday.  McGregor and Rogic both finished coolly with their weaker foot.  Ironically, McGregor benefited when Russell Martin clumsily tried to clear with his stronger, right foot, a ball which should have been played with his left.

Scott Brown deservedly won plaudits but Olivier Ntcham was irresistible.  His expertly taken penalty was a fitting reward for the way he dominated the central area of the field.

Referee Bobby Madden went into Brian McGinley territory (careful now) and awarded Celtic two penalties against teams from Ibrox.  They were both stonewallers but you and I know that doesn’t always mean they are awarded – so well played to the ref.

I don’t watch much of Newco, but based on what I have seen, this Morelos character is one of the worst strikers ever to pull on a blue jersey.  How he manages to make a living in the game when he finds putting the ball in the net from inside six yards so difficult is a mystery.

You will have noticed fluctuations in Celtic’s form this season.  They have looked short of inspiration against the likes of Hamilton, but you will also note that they peak at the right times, like the finely-tuned athletes they are.  Brendan had this date marked in his card since observing, “Be careful for what you wish for”, in response to news this semi-final draw was celebrated at Ibrox.

They will not be looking forward to their trip to Celtic Park in two weeks.

GFTB … if you have to ask if you are on my bad list, you aren’t …

Jimthethim…. TO isn’t so bad …. most games are at 10:00 am …and ‘big games’ at 7:30 am usually …. before CelticTV, I used to go to McVeigh’s to watch the games….sometimes they would lock the doors at 2 am and people would stay overnight to be there for the early kick offs ….I’m too old for that!

now, you just roll out of bed, and turn on the computer …easy peasy …

it is the guys in Oz and those places, who have it much tougher ….

Hail Hail davie mac, obviously a brilliant day yesterday, went back to the Dolphin but that shut at 9 so we headed into the Smiddy and were last oot with a small glow. Stevie Mcginn, Kevin Mcginn, Chic Watt and the Mcmahon sisters were my drinking buddies, no Mr Moore

though, your good wishes were past on and also reciprocated. Work was so quiet, after a few weeks of excited huns running about the place, they were all back in their boxes, will they ever learn, silly huns.

    Hail Hail

I wonder if The Dallas Cowboys are still pestering Sevco for that commercial tie in thingy?

  7. MIT, it’s great you still feel so much part of it. The internet can be a great thing. Makes the Celtic family concept even better than a generation ago. Not just reading the press reports next day or waiting on the Celtic View a week later eh?

    Enjoyed your story.

Although god knows why they would need cutlery in a hun establishment. Surely they eat with their hands!-))

  13. Just text a mate of mine, Sevco season ticket holder. The Ettrick is his local, assures me it’s a mixed pub. Says he thinks no surname sold it. Told me when Clint Hill equalised he hit the roof with his pal and they were the only ones.

  14. BSR, bold prediction there, they may have several more jumping to endure(enjoy) delete as appropriate.

Hibs, Aberdeen(stretch), and CP still to come.

Might be third or fourth last humping of the year.

  15. A couple of questions if i may

    1. Earlier this morning Eurochamps67 mentioned something that I don’t think anyone answered – why is N’tcham’s long sleeved top different from everyone else’s in that it has green cuffs instead of white?

    2. Below the comment box I now see that there are a couple of check boxes ‘notify me of follow up comments by email’ and ‘notify me of new posts’. What’s that all about? I wouldn’t think that anyone would want to receive an email every time that someone posts a comment? Or have I completely lost the plot??

  16. So according to the radio pundits all sevco need is a good manager and lots of other people’s money to purchase better player and that will be that. Stewarton did say build up over time but pipe and dream come to mind, immediate gratification is all they know.

oh that sounds easy, i would like to ask any of you lhads if you would like to invest in my grand plan. I want you to purchase my car and house for me and i will live in and drive at you expense. if i think i need an upgrade, i’ll let you know and if i dont like what’s on offers you’ll be hunted, what could possibly go wrong ?

Noboby in the medua cares to mention that celtic is cashing rich, has lots of real assets and value in the squad and is very likely to enhance the squad further and add better players again the season coming, elephant in the room

*When I went tae a meeting in OK pre-Milan I’m sure it was in the Ettrick as it was on Dumbarton road and I got off the bus there. I was always sure the Glen Lusset was the hun hole.

When I went tae St Pats a lot of Bankie bhoys went there, can only remember 2 fae OK, one of whom worked with my mother a few years later.

I worked with Crudens in OK just beside Gavinburn Depot prior tae emigrating the first time. Vic Davidson’s brother who was playing with Kilsyth Juniors at the time was an apprentice joiner.

  20. hi bhoys, my wife joan would like to say she is very humbled by the comments on here tonight ,and that although a born and bred liverpool fan ,she is now celtic to the core, she was half celtic anyway but now 100 percent a tim.hh.

  21. David17- I can assure you that is how it was for that game. Full of them. Funnily enough, Me and h-I-l do not socialise these days. :-)

  22. Callum McGregor will be the only Celtic player this season to score a goal in 5 different competitions. League, Scottish Cup, League Cup, Champions League and Europa League.

My grandparents were from OK, i spent a lot of my childhood there. I went to St Mary’s primary in Duntocher, I’m sure they ran a bus from OK to bring the kids up from OK and Dalmuir West. The Lusset is definitely a Hun pub.

  25. Re Big Yogi, I recall a very wet heavy pitch at Boghead many moons ago. Everyone else was sliding all over the place but the big man was very sure footed and unplayable.

He was immense and I think we scored 5 or 6.

Can’t remember the year as I was very young (6 or 7 I think) but I was in awe of him.
