The beating of Barca, II. This time it’s Tony.

1064

Where do we start discussing last night?  Perhaps the end of the night.  There was joy in abundance, not only inside Celtic Park, but in the streets surrounding the game and in a hundred thousand homes across the world.  This joy manifest itself into a great sense of community.  That performance brought tears, hugs, spontaneous jumping up and down, and not only from Celtic fans.  Messages have poured in from fans of other SPL clubs and beyond.

This is what great sport can do for people.

Brother Walfrid has excellent timing.  He managed to arrange our kick-off meeting to coincide with match day four of the Champions League group stage.  Those of us who attended the anniversary celebrations on Tuesday were reminded what Celtic is all about, the best team in the world were in Glasgow waiting to play, the fairy tale script was written, but could it be delivered?

It’s the details which are most impressive.  Mikael Lustig looked like he could play in any team in any league.  He was comfortable and composed throughout.  Adam Matthews, deputising for an injured former Player of the Year, played out of position flawlessly.  I watched him struggle at left back on his Celtic Park debut in a friendly against Wolves last year; it defies explanation how far he has progressed.

Please forget about Victor’s goal, it will only detract from his incredible midfield performance.  His composure, skill and assertiveness troubled Iniesta and Messi all game.  This was all the more impressive given the absence of captain, Scott Brown.

Georgios Samaras was crucial for most of the evening.  He was the one player Barca seemed afraid of, although a lack of training caught up with him before he was subbed.

I’ll not burden Tony Watt publicly with the comparison I made of him earlier in the season but he possesses an impressive array of attributes: upper body strength, pace-with-the-ball and a nose for goal.  I’m tempted to say he will continue to improve but, to what level?  Without injuries to Hooper, Lassad and Forrest it’s unlikely he would have enjoyed as much time last night.  Sometimes Fortune Favours the Celtic.

All of Europe would have been impressed with Fraser Forster last night, dubbed La Grand Muralla, the Big Wall, by a Spanish newspaper.  He will play for England, so too with Kelvin Wilson if he maintains this season’s form.

The only man with a problem today is Neil Lennon.  Tactically the two games against Barcelona have been as accomplished as any I have witnessed.  Neil needs to know how to follow that in Lisbon. I’ve no idea.

Happy Birthday Celtic!

    TET,

I’m thinking the club are playing the game, dont let it annoy us, they become impotent and insignificant, it will really get right up their snouts if they dont get a reaction.

When it comes to Celtic, I am ever the optimist and I can see Victor re-signing if we get to the last 16 which could mean he stays for next season as well and depending on what Celtic are doing he may stay longer. If Victor decides to move on, Celtic will make upwards of £20Million. A Win/Win. ;))

It would take a lot of soul searching to leave this Club when we are rising so strongly.

  4. I realise my head is still inside Celtic Park.

What is crazy is that a stinkin’ horrible wee bigoted gang of barely functional galoots from the 4th. division can hold any sway over us. They don’t. They’d like to think they do, but they are insane by default.

Compare and contrast our fates and fortunes.

They are finito. Ra peepil will eat themselves, from the inside, out. As will their enablers.

    We just beat Barça…..convincingly.

Finito, finished, over. Game, set and match. The end.

    Goodnight everybody.

TET. I’ve been saving this up.’Kilmarnock at half time’…. I have to think that most who wanted our manager out back then either don’t watch Celtic on a regular basis or just don’t have a life to speak of! Considering the background of the violence he faced up to and faced down then those who on a whim wanted him sacked must take a long look at themselves. So well done again Neil.We are proud of you. See you and the team at Wembley.HH.

    Aye, you are probably right.

Being impatient like I am, I find the injustice hard to take, but we will overcome, of that I have no doubts.

Even after all their cheating on and off the park, look where we are today.

The 3-3 game was the only game I never saw last season, I had other things to do that I couldn;t get out of, I phoned the young fella at half time and he told me the score, I honestly didn’t believe him, but I asked him to phone me when we scored, to say I was relieved would be an understatement, and the msm lapped it up, their gloating made me want to puke.

Something was born that day, they know it, we know it, and it’s out there, it can’t be stopped, the love will conqer everything, and the love is Celtic.

Barcelona really wanted that win last night, they had real intensity to their play from the first minute. Xavi is the best ever central midfielder in my opinion, the Maestro is still my favourite ever player.

It’s all very good as you say m8ty.

    Win a memorable historic club..

The Celtic celebrates its 125th anniversary with a victory over Barca suffered their second defeat of the year (2-1)

Celtic will hardly win the European Cup. It is also known that ultimately is not a heroic conquering Celtic Park. It will not be easy either that bhoys again have a coach like Jock Stein and a player Neal category, or Larsson Jonhsntone. Now it is impossible to form a legendary lineup with children born within 30 miles of Parkhead as happened in 1967. Not even compete with the Rangers down. Celtic, however, will always be the Celtic, impossible to forget a stadium like Celtic Park and green is by definition the opposite color to blue in Glasgow: 125 years after its founding, the Scottish champions club remains a recognizable and admirable very capable of defeating occasionally a team like Barca.

There are few teams that churn through the power of Celtic at Celtic Park game the misty Glasgow. The mixture was explosive for boys of Tito Vilanova, who signed his second loss of the season as they prepared to certify the pass to the second round of the Champions League. The match, after all, was very similar to the Camp Nou. The result, however, was the opposite. Used to being out face Barca yesterday touched the cross in Celtic’s lair. The continued possession and shots on goal only served to make the goal of honor.

As it did in Barcelona, Vilanova bet in Glasgow by the touch and Xavi and Iniesta pause before the vertigo of Cesc, Alexis chose aggressiveness to Villa goal, wanted the same team in the first leg, to Alves-except for the injured Adriano-resolved back at Celtic Park. So I had to re-set the pace, stop rondo in the opposite court, avoid turnovers, focus at Forster. Deploying more precisely thanks to Celtic as we saw in the Camp Nou and was found in Glasgow.

The Scots play defense very well at Barça. Intense and concentrated, especially well staged on home soil, no spaces or sometimes granted, clog the passing lanes and wait patiently to steal the ball to shoot a transition that inevitably ends in a band or an outside corner. And usually, a corner kick is a scoring chance at Celtic Park. Last night was no exception: Wanyama, measuring more than two feet Alba headed to Mulgrew service network in the first arrival of the boys of Lennon.

He had the same aim Barca. Although hard-earned shooting positions, twice topped timber (Messi and Alexis) and 10 not holed a goal that seemed sung before the noses of Forster. The old story in Celtic-Barcelona duels and often repeated also in Vilanova team, used to compete with the score against, a situation that has already been given in seven games this season, four solved with success, and two with defeat. A Barca had not done any better than playing at home: the break trailing by 1-0.

Nor was news because we know that sometimes seems too flat when a team does not play Villa and Cesc. Alexis has no luck with the porters, either at an auction last night to face with Forster, and yesterday night it was not Peter. The party demanded a change of gear from the Barcelona because the minutes were consumed in favor of Celtic and Vilanova brought El Guaje and, soon after, Cesc and Pique in a row, ready to flip the marker after Forster will again deny Messi goal.

The insult went wrong at Barcelona because the Celtic not spare after a long kick from goalkeeper managed to not reject Xavi. The ball ended up at the foot of Watt and his cross shot beat Valdes output. The meeting had no remedy for the club. Messi’s goal, after collecting a rebound of a shot from Villa Forster, did not avail the boys of Vilanova. Again discussed Messi and Villa and held his swollen Scottish team with a startling roar, scream own a club always recognizable by their strength and mystique.

Today, 125 years after its founding, the celebrated Celtic still the beloved Celtic. There could not be a better gift for the 60,000 fans who gather in a single liturgy at Celtic Park to an outstanding victory against Barca. Nobody ever hesitate personality of the Betis of Glasgow.

The air was crackling last night in Celtic Park, it was electric. It really was. I feel privileged ,and humbled, to have been there; a very special memory to treasure.

Very clever and calculated Celtic IMHO. ;)

Young Neil has a definitive vision and it means winning the Champions League with Celtic.

The whole of Scotland was manipulated by the scummiest media ever to hate Neil Lennon, The Lord will make sure Most of Scotland will really appreciate Neil Lennon because he is a thoroughly honest person. I always remember Hugh Dallas saying on Radio Clyde that Neil Lennon was the best player he refereed because he never held a grudge but he contested anything he thought was wrong. Dallas is a conceited scumbag but Neil is forging ahead using the Truth only to hack through the wholes lies and deception.

It is my view that Victor has just went out of the range of Manchester United, they are not spending money like they use to.

Just seen the Double save from Sanchez by Fraser Forster, technically he is easily the best goalie in Britain now. Joe Hart’s arrogance/confidence will not keep out the SHEER hard work of Fraser from making the England goalie position his own. I like Roy Hodgson, he isn’t, from what I can gather, an arrogant person. I hope Hooper makes a squad soon as well.
