The bully who picks on mental health issues

197

After last night’s game at Rugby Park, Sky Sports’ Kris Boyd criticised Leigh Griffiths for not featuring in the majority of Celtic games since Brendan Rodgers arrived at the club in 2016.  Two months into that period, injury to Leigh allowed Moussa Dembele a chance to lead the line.  Moussa is the best striker to play in Scottish football for 15 years.  There is no shame in being unable to dislodge the man currently watched by Chelsea and Manchester United.

Three months after Moussa left, Leigh made a short statement to say he had mental health issues and needed to take a break from the game.  He has been fit to play only a small number of weeks since.

There is no shame in this absence either, in fact, the whole of Scottish football commended Leigh for opening up about the subject and taking the necessary steps, instead of trying to bury the issue, inducing further trauma.  Post-match, Kris Boyd tried to shame Leigh for his appearances stats since Brendan’s arrival.

Boyd lost his brother to suicide in 2016 and setup The Kris Boyd Charity two years later to raise funds for and help those suffering from mental health issues.  It is inconceivable that he did not know why Leigh has missed the majority of games since December 2018, or the struggles he had leading up to that time.

I would not tread on his grief, or question why he started the charity, but he has to make a choice: be the bully, who picks on those with mental health issues, or be the one who helps.  He cannot be both.  Some humility today would be in order.

  3. Reading back on the debate, Kris Boyd is just another hurtin’ Hun.

I hope Leigh can brush off his comments and the Club has his back 100% is FtSFA try citing Leigh, or big Craig Gordon for that matter.

  4. That must have been some game last night when Sportscene couldn`t find time to mention let alone show anything of the tackle on Frimpong and his being stretchered off which took SIX MINUTES to sort out.

RESULTS FROM GAME #29 – KILMARNOCK 1 CELTIC 3 (EDOUARD, GRIFFITHS, JULLIEN)

Our first league game of 2020 and quite a challenging match to return to. The general opinion before the game was that our closest rivals were likely to have a comfortable victory whilst we could find it tough. But by 10 o’clock last night we had actually (sort of) increased our lead at the top by 1 goal.

And after Saturday’s 2 incorrect penalty decisions, we were treated to another 2 last night. The keeper taking out Griffiths was, for me a stonewaller whilst the same keeper’s kick out at Edouard late in the game was also a wee bit naughty. Something I fear we are just going to have to get used to over the next 5 months…

A big thanks to the 54 who voted, the biggest ‘turnout’ since the League Cup Final. Those 162 votes have been distributed as follows, with my own selections asterisked –

    Forster: 0

    Simunovic: 2

    Jullien: 12

    Ajer: 4

    Frimpong: 27

    Brown*: 18

    McGregor: 8

    Ntcham*: 14

    Hayes: 1

    Griffiths: 27

    Edouard*: 49

    Johnston: 0

    Bayo: 0

    Bauer: 0

Unused subs – Gordon, Taylor, Arzani, Klimala

So, the players receiving points for the Kilmarnock game are –

    Edouard – 5 points

    Frimpong – 4 points

    Griffiths – 4 points

    Brown – 2 point

    Ntcham – 1 points

That leaves the overall table reading as follows –

    1st – Brown – 62 points

    2nd – Edouard – 45 points

    3rd – Christie – 38 points

    16th – Elhamed – 8 points

    16th – Taylor – 8 points

    19th – Bitton – 4 points

    20th – Johnston – 3 points

    20th – Bayo – 3 points

    22nd – Morgan – 2 points

    22nd – Robertson – 2 points

24th – Simunovic, Gordon, Klimala, Sinclair, Ralston, Arzani, Hendry, Dembele, Shved – all on 0 points

Next, a home tie, at 3pm on a Saturday, shock, horror against Ross County. And, of course it’s a great opportunity to move 5 points clear of the chasing pack. For 24 hours at least.

    Hail Hail!

  6. Sir LazyD………….well done Bhoy, very well played!

On the other stuff, I trust Players Unionist Wishart Frazier will be voicing his support for Griff and decryin’ that hunned-up, mouth-breathin’ Void……….?

Naw? he was probably at The Edmiston Folly, amongst freens…..

It was awfy important for a message to get oooot on social media that Griff was done……just think how adamant the “mannerly” Hun McNugget was on here with regards to Griff……………..That Level of sleekitry takes plannin’…………….

  7. Valentine’s day is fast approaching ,so if you want to make the joke about booking a table at the snooker club…..

You’ll have to join the cue …😜

  8. Forgot how enjoyable it is watching 2 forwards linking up play in the final third. A system that allows 2 up top is one I can live with and is used for to little these days. I like the fact it ensures you have enough up top to hit and makes sure defenders cant play across their own backline

  9. Wing half is the position for Frimpong.

When he attacks the byeline,he really hurts teams.

When he first broke into the team he was much more direct and hurt teams.

He has not been doing that as often in recent matches.

He should be encouraged to do it more often.

    He is not defender imho.

But he can been the man that competes with JF for the position on the right of our midfield.

    Get well soon .

    OH ! Jeremy Frimpong.

  10. Happy birthday HamiltonTIm.

Sold an Austin Maestro to a gent in your part of the world 20 yrs ago, If you see it can you ask for my money?

  11. Aipple

I’m surprised you didn’t have to pay him to take it.

    My beloved brother had one.

Good job it had a heated rear window.

  12. Boyd is a product of his environment.

The same culture that boasts of trying harder against Catholic schools at primary school football level.

The same culture that excluded Catholics for a century.

It’s pernicious at every level in Scotland.

It places hand shaking people with brown brogues who know their granny’s age in positions of influence.

(On issues of propriety I omitted goat shagging)

It conspires to handicap us on and off the field.

No matter our contribution to the game or society we will always be regarded as unwanted interlopers.

  13. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

If sky are showing the games next season there should be some decent streams

  14. Well done Lazy D a lovely gesture by you and your family

who have been brought up to care for others who need it .

    Kudos to all .

  15. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

As for the board doing anything about Sky/Boyd do I need to remind you the board sold out the integrity of not only the game but more importantly the club with their tacit approval of the 5 way agreement. The whole point of the 5 way sell out was money, judas style. The majority of the same decision makers remain in place, what makes anyone think they have suddenly stopped worshipping Mammon.

  16. LAZY DYNAMITE..

I watched the News last night and saw the article and your interview etc.

My heart went out to the ever young 90 years of age “Nancy”. Its shocking that anyone has to save up and use all their savings for their own Funeral instead of having some fun later on in life.

Nancy said that she did not wish to be seen “Begging”…..she is obviously a fine and proud Lady.

Maybe, someone somewhere ( Or A Travel company ?) will offer Nancy a Free Holiday for example to at least allow her to have some fun without her worrying about funeral costs etc ?

    ………………………….

Many Hoopy Happy returns to HAMILTON TIM.

    Have a FAB Hoopy time.

Has our custodians came out and backed LG yet????

Has our custodians slammed refereeing decisions yet???

Has our club came out and denied the racist slur on our support yet???

Has our custodians …. Ah forget it I know the answer. Spineless rats to a man and could not give a feck about players or fans or our club for that matter

Bring on Ross County, it will be good to get Polish Paddy some game time.
