The Celtic oxygen

604

In a month full of events which resonate with the spirit which inspired those who formed Celtic Football Club, last night’s Wee Oscar 4 Life race night at the Kerrydale Suite was as special as it gets.  Those who were there know they gathered as a community to help the family of Oscar Knox do whatever they can to help the four-year-old through his illnesses.

If you were there, you were magnificent.  Those who decided they would give their time and resources to organise the event are an inspiration to us all.  It was great to hear Bobby Petta talk about the Celtic support in glowing terms.  He has been back in Glasgow for a couple of years and is very much at home in Celtic.  Treble-winning-captain-Tom-Boyd and Frank McAvennie didn’t need to learn about the Celtic support, they were born into it.  Both were there to help and ensure the night was a success.

Performances of the night came from Oscar’s dad, Stephen, Kris Commons’ partner, Lisa and our very own Minx, who sounded like she had presented Children In Need for the last 20 years.  Lisa, who is heavily pregnant, inspired the room with an uncommon touch of humanity.

By late in the evening the total raised was over £25k.  Another simply stunning day in Paradise.

I’ve been offline for most of the last couple of days but have picked up on some of the issues surrounding the Green Brigade.  What I haven’t missed is a single minute of action at Celtic Park this season but I’ve not seen a single incident of crowd trouble or alarm.  This season our games could be ‘policed’ by stewards alone, so it is beyond curious as to why police have any interest in Celtic supporters at all.

Football operations the like of which have been reported are not the actions of officers on the ground, they are a political dictate from very high up the food chain.  There is neither justification nor plausible motivation for using our tax money in this way.

  1. A post made by a Gb member on Celtic minded ………..

We expect snipes and little digs here and there. Each to their own. Its easy to say things when your own personal life isn’t being affected. Its not so easy when your on the receiving end though. Ive seen in personally with my taxi licence application. I know how it feels when you open the letter and realise the police have made sure it’ll be another 6/7 weeks at least before you can get out and earn yourself a wage. I know what its like to have to go to my family/friends and ask for more money because Im still on the dole thanks to a bitter police force. I know what its like to stand in a public room and despite one minor conviction, be made out to be some sort of ‘danger to the public’ all because Im a GB member (because thats what it boiled down to).

For those that dont know what im on about. I was the lad mentioned in the statement a few weeks ago who had his taxi licence rejected by the police. I won it on appeal. I was rejected because I wasn’t a ‘fit and proper person’ due to my behaviour at home and abroad around celtic fc fixtures. Ive ONE conviction to my name, when I was 19. A BOP charge. Never arrested abroad at a celtic match and although I was accused of wrongdoing in udine, that was overturned as CCTV confirmed Id done nothing wrong. But hey, police (written letter from chief constable) decided I should be rejected a taxi license and that I should stand alongside armed robbers etc at the appeals commitee. So xxxx knows how lads who have to go through months and months of court appearences and the stuff that brings feel. Or how lads dawnraided at home infront of families, or at workplaces in front of work (all to go on and win their cases) feel because I know how I felt and I had it easy compared to some of our lads. So anyone can snipe away, but reality is you don’t have a clue what were up against from time to time (and even statements we put out can only include some).

As for ‘what will it acheive’?…….well awareness. Hopefully it will be highlighted more and something/anything positive can come of it. Is boycott the best option? Who knows, but thats what we’ll go for. Might change xxxx all…..but then certain CSCs are boycotting killie away because their chairmanin abstained. I could say, ‘what will that achieve’…or theres loads of fans have personally boycotted certain grounds because of a few quid prize rise, and so on. Again ‘what did that achieve?’….nada. At the end of the day thats personal choices and this is ours.

As for celtic…..of course weve had dialogue over it with them. Its fairly simple, they simply arent interested. Ive been at meetings myself, I canny recreate the meetings as proof so take my/our word or don’t – there not interested ffs. Their not on ‘our’ side thats for sure. You can go back to them at court cases and so on. You can look at them providing the police with details….it happens, believe me. To them letting police into film us in empty ground set ups and so forth.

A sad state of affairs and one that doesn’t look like going away. So anyone that wants to snipe away. Batter in. Il look forward to aberdeen, then lisbon (where some of our lads will be approached, generally questioned, hassled for fuck all again) and then back and miss out next home game. Be the 4th game ive missed anywhere in 13 years or so…….and it’ll be hard. But at least were trying ‘something’….anything to highlight this because if not, someones gonna snap. Lads simply canny put up with personal lifes being messed about for nothing anymore. Maybe its the wrong thing, who knows…..but turning up every week under the camera, acting as if everythins alright just isnt right.

Indeed and had there been a round table discussion or even the mechanism for one that the Open Meetings temporarily provided, perhaps a different approach/strategy might have been developed to pursue the issue as one body covering supporter groups and Celtic.

Instead we have another issue that risks division just when unity looked solid. It seems to me to be a uniquely Celtic trait (like after we stopped 10iar) for the Celtic family to fall out with each other just when we are at our best.

Reminds me of two movies. The Committments and Groundhog Day.

  3. Can anyone post a link to MWDs photos from the green army bucket collection please

I deleted mine by mistake :(((

    Thank you in advance

  4. Chatted briefly to a neighbour of mine who is a staunch “Rangers” man. Our local team is Ross County who I go and support when I can and are a great family club who also try to play some decent football. Does my Sevco season ticket holding neighbour do the same? No he tells me – they voted against us remaining in the SPL and for that reason I will not give them a penny. At no point is there in any shame, apology or regret for the taxes they have not paid and the alleged cheating that they have been involved in. They truly live on another planet.

  6. Just read the Govan Emerald statement, very very worrying if true.

It seems Celtic actually want the stadium to be empty. They might just get their wish if they are found to be complicit.

  7. ….. and all fuelled by Alex’s SNP government ….. a long way back to win my vote (be like turkeys voting for Christmas FFS)

  8. post from a GB member on Huddle Board

Been spoke about for quite a while now mate, it’s just getting worse and worse. Personally faced my own 10month court case, missing half a season, a cup final….all for a judge to take 20mins and find it not proven, made me question why I do it but I’m not letting them win, Celtics my club not theirs!

All lads have different circumstances and opinions though, my personal one? Celtics my life, been going home and away since I was a wee boy, first game I remember was the 94 coca cola cup final against Raith, since then it’s been my life every weekend, met my bird through it, she goes everywhere with me now aswell, if I never had it then who knows how it would be, I’d be climbing the walls, when I was going through my case I was in one big huff for months, all my mates going to games and I’m left watching them in the pub, was gutting going through that, now though we have lads going through this more and more as every game goes by, since the statement was put out we’ve had 2 more lads who’ve received letters from the police asking them to get in touch and a lad arrested for having a bottle of water…not thrown out like anyone with common sense would do, arrested…thrown in the cells in London rd! We’re paying £500 a season for this , we pan our s in for the club and our group, everything we do (whether some agree or not)…we do it through our love for the club, nothing more! Last Saturday we were in CP from 10am till 6pm, Sunday those not at the game the same again till about 8pm, Monday was the same till about 8pm, Tuesday…same until about 6 and we had lads in on Wednseday till 2.30pm…..something which we as a support all had a hand in, which the club are sitting taking plaudits for…which they’ll no doubt make a fortune on with people buying the inevitable pics that’ll be available from the superstore…..then you go to yer normal league game and they’re actively helping the police in their bullying, harrassment and constant xxxxx they’re throwing at us as a support and us personally as a section and group.

Last thing anyone wants to do is chuck it obviously…..why go on like this though, its depressing as xxxx wondering if you’re losing your job this week when the police chap your door at half 6 in the morning and you get charged with a botp, its baws, Im pretty certain we won’t be here next season…unless there’s a drastic change with it all

Strikes me as a valuable trait to have. We are what we are.

I think the plc are winning the battle over the soul of our club. They being the green huns that they are will consider it rebranding. We have been here before.

Those Celtic fans that do not like the sanitisation of our club will be told they can “take a running jump in the river”

Lord Reid did not wait as long as we did. His days are certaintly over ours just got worse and they say DD is an intelligent man.

As you probably noticed I’m Legia Warsaw fan. We have similar protest for two or three months. Believe me, the reasons of the protest, police/club (you know what I mean) and all details are the same. I unfortunately can image the outcome is not good for the club and Green Brigade.

My only advise today is: ask supporters do not comment this issue on Celtic forums until after final meetings with the club and the police.

I know where you are coming from and I understand the reasons why your boycott was run.

If the board has released information then they will have acted illegally. They hold the personal data for a specific purpose. Releasing to the police is not the purpose. It will be a criminal act if that has happened.

  16. When I began to take notice of these things, late 70`s, I realised that

the board tolerate the support and dont embrace them. They throw us

a few crumbs and give us the pat on the head like a pet dug.

What do they want, 60,000 fans in the stadium with the only noise being

the rustle of crisp pokes. Quite disgusted by the whole thing.

  17. Neil canamalar Lennon hunskelper extrordinaire on

    Leftclick…,

This is not about support for the team, there will be no supporter wanting anything else but a result and will always follow the team. The politics of the board can maverick change that, what it can change though is how we support the team, to me it looks like they prefer a pub based support.

  18. I wont be there next month never mind next season. I stuck by Celtic even under the old board and their thieving ways but this is too much.

Sitting angry and heart broken. I have Never hid my colours or allegiance, I have always stood my ground against the huns. I cant believe it will be Celtic that drive me away. After all Neil Lennon and high profile fans went through last season this is how the Celtic board acts?

    Excellent advice IMO.

There is no real need to play into the hands of the players controlling things.

It really is time for us all to get our thinking caps on.

I have decided that I won’t be going to the next couple of home games, I will feel it acutely if we secure the last 16 this midweek as the natural reaction is to go there and Praise the efforts.

There has never been a more Chaotic scenario. That’s entropy for you, especially when God is marginalised.

  21. Ultr

Many have alluded to the issues between the GB an Celtic.

We all guess at what they are

Can you spell it out mate, from your perspective? Why are the board against you?

  22. Just watched the game between Colon v Union de Santa Fe.

The Santa Fe fans were ripping down fences, the polis were firing water cannons at them, the game was very nearly abandoned.

That to me is fans misbehaving.

And in scotland…………….it looks like our club are complicit in making their own supporters criminals.

When will they stop, when the soul has been ripped out !!!

  23. Depressing reading the accounts of the GB tonight. If and it’s a big “if” the Celtic Board are in anyway complicit in the police actions or even worse as suggested in one of the posts I am afraid they will have succeeded in dividing and fragmenting the clubs supporters more than any of our enemies could ever have imagined or hoped for.

On the other hand every challenge also presents an opportunity. If the Celtic Board are not involved, now is the time to step up to the plate, a chance to do the right thing, unite our fans as never before, and put those who would try to damage our club in their place. Over to you PL and others.

    Dan

  24. Neil canamalar Lennon hunskelper extrordinaire on

    petec,

That last post is too confusing, you agree that the action should be postponed till the board and authorities sit down and try and iron it out, a suggestion Bourne out of ignorance since both the board and authorities have refused to come to the table.

Then tell us you’ll be joining the protest, gonnae no dae that :o)

  25. No GB no me, none of my friends will go, if the Board are worried about season books now this will be armageddon.

The stories emerging are astonishing. Scotland is a police state and the Board are helping them.

67 Heaven I know you support the Board but are you really going to put up with this?

Leftclicktic – we are divided if our Board are allowing discrimination of this type.

  26. It’s been a tense few days for relations between the board and the support. We have been here before; we doubtless will be again.

I don’t know what has gone on and have been travelling too much even to follow events on CQN.

However, the following are irrefutable facts and are worth taking into account in any discussion about the matter.

    1. Celtic’s board knows it cannot afford to alienate the support or any element thereof. With attendance at SPL games on the wane, mostly, I am sure, because of family finances, why would the board chase more fans away? That doesn’t make sense.

    2. Celtic and Celtic people have enemies; these enemies are cui bono, they want division and conflict, controversy and contention. If some of those enemies are putting out negative information about Celtic, it’s only natural to take a step back and wait for confirmation of events from more objective sources before drawing a conclusion.

    3. The Green Brigade do a great job and we all love them. But they are not bigger than the club. Forget the police. Let the club handle the police. The Green Brigade needs to have good dialogue with the club and do what the club asks, nothing more.

  27. Aw Naw

You did not enjoy the Committments music then?

I thought it a shame that having produced their very best as a group they disintegrated before becoming truly great.
