When someone writes the Celtic Story on our 200th anniversary there will be a page about when The Thai Tims came to Glasgow. It’s a part of the Celtic Story which reaches from 1888 to the present day, and, if we do our job as Celtic fans well, will ensure the character of the club retains a distinct and generous flavour.
The Thai Tims, formally the Good Child Foundation, arrive from Thailand next month and will perform at the Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow, on Thursday 10 May, tickets are £12 and £6 for kids. If you have enjoyed them on YouTube, and I know you have…. buy a couple of tickets here or call 08444 77 1000 and get along before they’ve sold out.
You can also support the Good Child Foundation by contributing to the fundraising exercise via their Everyclick page.
Sorry I didn’t get back to you yesterday on the question about whether not registering players correctly was cheating. Busy, busy. Will get to it as soon as I can – no answering this question early, that’s cheating.

Football magazines of my childhood ( a hundred years ago it seems ) used to refer to Celtic as ‘The Bouncing Buoys’.
The extra U may be a hidden memory from the distant past.

There is a trial finishing as we speak at Glasgow Sheriff Court involving two of the Green Brigade accused of breach of the peace. Star witness for the prosecution – Eddie Smith. Breach of the peace committed by unfurling a banner with an image of Neil Lennon in a Vladimir Ilych Lenin pose, an image of Ibrox burning next to the words “Hun F.C.” and the words “Let’s go to war”.
The prosecutor has binned the allegation that use of the word “Hun” is sectarian.
Smith gave evidence to the effect that the image of Ibrox burning could be seen as a reference to the Bradford fire[?!!]. He also opined that the words “Let’s go to war” could be an incitement to burn Ibrox down. He also accepted that Neil Lennon used these words in an interview a couple of days earlier and that the banner may have made innocent reference to these remarks.
Do we want our money (what David Murray has left us of it) used to prosecute this drivel? I think today is day four.

If the reports are true and Celtic PLC is refusing to support attempts by ten members of the SPL to change the present structure of the league then alarm bells need to start ringing
———–
I do not believe Celtic FC would be against a re structuring of the SPL in principal however they do not wish to be forced into anything that will be to the detriment of our club. I do not see how the SPL 10 can force through any new rules / voting system while RFC are still in existence. That is unless there has been underhand shenanigans ongoing and as we all know that would never happen in Scotland! I believe that Celtic still hold the balance of power. Loss of TV revenue from domestic games will not have any great effect on Celtic but a refusal of the main attraction to allow TV coverage of their domestic games may well scupper any current /future TV deal and that along with a fans boycott of away games may induce the SPL 10 into treading very lightly. We are all aware of the options open to us should they demand a share of gate receipts.
Mort – Re: “CelticTaxCase”
Brilliant, absolutely brilliant.
I wonder if Rangers’ submission to the First–tier Tribunal went along the lines of: “Aye, but whitaboot Celtic, eh?”
With keen minds like that in the blue corner, we’ll be kept in jelly and ice cream for generations of domination to come. (thumbsup)
Folly Folly – Well, thanks, but… you can see why they call him The Moonbat.
Who are these poor progressives who are “tied up in knots of reticence and self-doubt”?
That doesn’t sound like many lefties I know. It doesn’t describe the Moonbat himself, Polly Toynbee, Laurie Penny or even Ed Miliband (too little self-doubt seems to be his problem. Like many people who have never done any real work outside politics, he overestimates his abilities). It certainly doesn’t describe the radical psycho-left who have taken to childish stunts like making a mess of St. Paul’s Cathedral or smashing up shops they don’t approve of, or sending vile threats to people via Twitter and whatnot.
It doesn’t describe the default position of the modern mainstream Left, which is quick to accuse anybody who disagrees with them of being racist, sexist, homophobic, etc. A lot of them seem to be permanently raging at the very thought of people not sharing their opinions, in a similar manner to a certain type of embittered Rangers fan. They’re so utterly convinced of the righteousness of their cause that they assume people who disagree must be either stupid or evil or both.
On this very site not so long ago one poster, a man who obviously thinks of himself as one of the good guys, spat up the worst words in his stomach to describe me, including “fascist” and “bigot”, because I expressed cautious approval of the government’s Workfare scheme.
The term “cognitive dissonance” comes to mind.
As for seeking power and influence through rightwing ideas, if only!
Explaining to people the facts of life and encouraging liberty and self-reliance just doesn’t have the same mass-market appeal in the UK as stoking the fires of jealousy and promising “free” goodies paid for out of other people’s taxes.
I’ll give you an example: if you were a politician making a speech and said “everybody should have the right to free health care!”, you’d probably be cheered to the rafters.
If you were another politicians who said:
“Hang on a minute… what exactly do we mean by ‘healthcare’, and how are we going to pay for it? Should we include free glasses from opticians, regardless of cost? What if someone wants a second pair or prescription sunglasses? How about laser eye surgery? Cosmetic surgery? Sex changes? Aromatherapy? Homeopathy? Hypnosis to help stop smoking? Therapeutic massage?
Do we have to provide all of the latest drugs to whoever wants them as soon as they hit the market, or can we wait till cheaper generics become available? What other types of spending will we cut if the budget isn’t big enough to do all the things we want to do in providing free healthcare?…
…you’d probably attract a mixture of confused looks, catcalls, and people calling you a selfish tory bar steward.
However, reality, like gravity, always wins in the end, and the facts of life are conservative (with a small-c, of course). (thumbsup)
From BBC News web-site:
A man accused of sending parcel bombs to Neil Lennon said he learned how to make a hoax bomb from watching an episode of the A-Team, a court heard.
In a police interview, Neil McKenzie, 42, admitted he told someone else how to make a hoax device, but refused to name the other person.
A Statement from Duff & Phelps advsed that they watched ‘Mission Impossible’ to determine their strategy to save Rangers*
I wonder if the hun behind the CELTICTAXCASE has a bright yellow keyboard and likes singing about ” walking away”.

I hear what you’re saying & sympathize with your feelings but…
it’s difficult to contribute if the 10 don’t let you in
it’s difficult to debate & resolve when the 10 have already decided
it’s difficult to plan when the fate of RFCIA is uncertain.
Your clarion call is well made but I’d be astonished if Celtic did not have plans/ideas/proposals to meet a variety of outcomes. I’d be surprised if they have not sounded out opinion from some other clubs. I’d be astounded if they did not see that some kind of change will be essential.
There will be a line the club will not be prepared to cross but I’m sure that applies to the 10 too. Some compromise ground may be possible will goodwill.
The BIG question is ‘what will RFCIA do?’
I don’t know if anyone will have seen this. A Rangers supporting pal of mine sent me the link and sked my views. It is an analysis of a number of Celtic sites/blogs, including CQN, Rangerstaxcase and Phil’s from a Rangers fan’s perspective. surprisingly liteate but a mishmash of tweets and comments taken out of context and used to develop a pattern.
I could have told him the only thing I can recall from Ragnersmedia was the reference to sacking the catholics at Ibrox first, but he’s an intelligent rangers fan (yes I know, but he is) and had worked out himself that it was a farily random selection.
Just thought Paul and Phil should be aware if they’re not already that they’re names are under discussion on this site and there may be c campaign brewing to discredit, which again may already be the case.

The gang of ten is the most depessing part of this whole shambolic Scottish Football affair.
Ten Chairmen of SPL clubs with the opportunity of a generation to radically change the fortunes’ of their Clubs and not one of them are making arrangements to ensure they take advantage of the vacuum created by a weakened R@ngers.
There is Silverware and Europe waiting for someone of vision that can take their club to the next level, what are they discussing? A parachute for the next time they get relegated.
It amazes me that they look to Celtic to smooth their way. As if we owe them, as if Celtic had some divine right, some grand endowment that makes us a successful club.
Where were we 25 years ago compared with our peers? When a man of ruthless intent and now it seems questionable morals came into the Scottish game and was accommodated in distorting the national game by fair means or foul.
It was Celtic that once again found determined men ready to compete, they hung onto the coattails of the marauder ’til near death then men of vision, supported by their fans and a proud legacy had the strength to survive, regenerate and thrive.
The gang of 10 say Scottish Football needs radically changing, well we’d all agree with that. But does it need changing to allow mediocrity to flourish, absolutely not.
What are they scared of? Having to run a real Football team and to be expected to compete, to excel. The Chairmen of Aderdeen, Dundee United, Hearts, Hibs etc….. Should be ashamed of themselves, the office that they hold were once held by men of vision and ambition, some of them their own kin.
My advice – if you seriously want to improve Scottish Football, look to your own fans, your own managers, your own players to support your club and change your fortunes. But most of all look to yourselves, or make way for someone willing to evolve.
Can Rankers in Admin vote along with th other 10? They could probably cut a deal with them on automatic reentry to SPL as a bargaining tool? Or am I away off at a tangent and misinformed:)

Saints coach suspended for season over bounties
By HOWARD FENDRICH, AP Pro Football Writer
–
The New Orleans Saints’ crush-for-cash bounty system already cost them head coach Sean Payton for all of next season and general manager Mickey Loomis for half of it, plus two second-round draft picks and a $500,000 fine.
Former Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, who oversaw and contributed money to the illegal fund, was suspended indefinitely.
Unforgiving and unprecedented penalties Wednesday from an NFL determined to rid its sport of hits that aim to knock opponents out of a game.
Now Commissioner Roger Goodell will turn his attention to possible punishments for two dozen or so defensive players the league’s investigation found were involved in the extra payouts that he called “particularly unusual and egregious” and “totally unacceptable.”
“We are all accountable and responsible for player health and safety and the integrity of the game. We will not tolerate conduct or a culture that undermines those priorities,” said Goodell, whose league faces more than 20 concussion-related lawsuits brought by hundreds of former players. “No one is above the game or the rules that govern it.”
The league is reviewing the case with the NFL Players Association before deciding what to do about players who were part of the Saints’ scheme from 2009-11.
“While I will not address player conduct at this time, I am profoundly troubled by the fact that players — including leaders among the defensive players — embraced this program so enthusiastically and participated with what appears to have been a deliberate lack of concern for the well-being of their fellow players,” Goodell said.
Targeted players included quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers, Cam Newton, Brett Favre and Kurt Warner. “Knockouts” were worth $1,500 and “cart-offs” $1,000, with payments doubled or tripled for the playoffs.”

You obviously have more faith in Celtic PLC than I have. Only recently the Celtic Board intimated that their preferential change to the SPL would be a return to a league of ten, playing each other four times a season. And especially playing Rangers four times a season, a position also supported by Paul67 if I am not mistaken. The proposed (sealed?) Sky deal apparently insists on it. No discussion on that issue allowed.
neveralone
If Celtic were to vote along with “the ten” they can change the structure of the SPL tomorrow, or alternatively they can make provision for change should any of the current members cease to qualify for continued membership. I am all for change, I favour a return to a bigger league, and also a new approach to television coverage from which Celtic itself could benefit. (See Auldheid’s projections from a week or two back) However, as things stand, my view is that Celtic support the status quo ante, the Old Firm block vote. As things stand.
