The costs of dropping Giakoumakis for Kyogo

237

All going well, in the weeks ahead, Ange Postecoglou will consider replacing his current Most Valuable Player – Giorgos Giakoumakis – with his MVP from the first half of the season, Kyogo Furuhashi.

It is easy to forget how early we are in the formation of this Celtic team.  Daizan Maeda and Reo Hatate are only here two months, Matt O’Riley less than that.  None have teamed up with Kyogo, they have spent little time with playing with Yosuke Ideguchi, James Forrest or David Turnbull.

That bizarrely easy win in February over Newco implied the new model had a maturity that was not there yet.  A month of indifferent performances followed, with a harsh truth delivered by Bodo/Glimt.  On good surfaces and against Premiership opposition, the system is again looking fabulous.

A big part of this system is what Giakoumakis gives us in the air – two headed goals and one headed assist on Saturday.  Without him, we have the appearance of a front line that could not jump and touch the crossbar.  We would also lose an additional strong defender at set-pieces.

The temptation to make Kyogo the new focus could be overwhelming, he was that impressive.  He brings things to Celtic we have not seen in years.  Question is, what will the costs be of dropping Giorgos, or rejigging the entire setup to fit both in?

I am, however, for Independence, especially since England voted for Brexit. If we do achieve Independence, we may well have to accept that our standard of living goes down we prepared to pay the price.

    ——

I respect your opinion, but of course challenge the premise on which it’s based.

The UK, as a whole, voted to leave the EU, just as Scotland, as a whole, voted ‘NO THANKS’ to separation. That is democracy. Yes there were different parts of the country voting different ways – again that is democracy. Those who question the vote and introduce a “Scotland vote” are playing with democracy, in the same way that the SNPcult did when it excluded Scottish people who live in other parts of the UK from voting in 2014 – the majority of those people would have left Scotland in order to work and support their families. Contrast them with the assortment of ‘luvvies’ given air-time to support the SNP, most of these ‘faces” get the majority of work in England – independence is merely a “hobby’ to these people.

You say “we may well have to accept that our standard of living goes down”. You’re quite right, but when was that ever admitted by the SNPcult? When was it ever quantified, both in financial terms and length of time?

The truth is that we have the most powerful devolved administration in the world at Holyrood. We are part of the sixth largest economy in the world – that brings many benefits, not least security of our standard of living, even in times of global financial crisis(2008), and the global Covid pandemic – which could be the forerunner of more to come. A Scottish administration working harmoniously within the UK could deliver distinctly Scottish answers to distinctly Scottish questions for the benefit of all – and yet the SNPcult’s only interest is ‘navel gazing’ over Indy – they don’t care about the Scottish people, they only care about their ’cause’. They want the electorate to give them the power to play Russian Roulette with the lives, livelihoods, jobs & pensions/benefits of 5.5 million……it will never happen – people are thinking it through. Can I respectfully suggest that you do also?

Do the Scots that live in England get counted as tax payers or are they invisible to the treasury also? Not really sure how that works. Do you fill in a form every year stating where you were born so that the wonderful taxpayer in England knows who they are looking after. Then of course there are the English born people who live and work in the frozen North, do they have to self define as Scottish to avoid tax?

“Same with the Republicans and Democrats in America who completely swapped their positions from how they were when they were established.”

    —————————————

    I don’t think that’s true.

The Republican Party was founded just before the American Civil War and was always the party of big business. The Democrats were the party of the small farmer and labouring classes.

The only progressive part of Republican policy was their attitude towards the slaves, largely formed by Patrician Quakers and fundamental protestants like John Brown, from the North . Many northern Democrats held enlightened views towards slaves too, albeit it was very far from their priority concern but Southern Democrats were violently opposed to any concessions on the issues.

The issues of race and slavery split both parties at the time of Lincoln’s nomination and election, and there was a Northern Democratic candidate for president and a Southern Democratic one. Lincoln was the sole Republican candidate but there was a candidate for the Constitutional Union/Whig party and the Whigs were the party that begat the Republican movement. They represented the views of Republicans who were not too bothered by slavery.

Race and slavery was the only thing that was progressive about the Republican Party. They proved in all post Civil War governments to be the party of graft and Corruption and aimed to preserve Capitalism and Big Industry and to curtail worker’s rights. The Democrats remained split by race issues for years and it took nearly 30 years, following the war, for a Democrat to be elected as President.

Democrats continued to be heavily influenced by Race issues form the South because the racists hated the mid 19th century Lincoln Republican version. Woodrow Wilson, a Democrat during WW1 rolled back a lot of the advances gained by the black middle classes and helped the KKK reach its peak membership.

It took the death of the Civil War generation and the emergence of a Liberal Northern Democrat movement (Adlai Stevenston and JFK) to create an opportunity for Republicans to win back southern voters. The Southern Strategy was in full swing when Goldwater faced Kennedy in 1960 but it was started by one of Nixon’s people, who articulated it as :-

“From now on, the Republicans are never going to get more than 10 to 20 percent of the Negro vote and they don’t need any more than that… but Republicans would be shortsighted if they weakened enforcement of the Voting Rights Act. The more Negroes who register as Democrats in the South, the sooner the Negrophobe whites will quit the Democrats and become Republicans. That’s where the votes are. Without that prodding from the blacks, the whites will backslide into their old comfortable arrangement with the local Democrats.”

All their work, backed by many church organisations led to the Reagan landslide and a solid Christian vote for the parties with the most racist policies. The Americans have constantly re-invented European Christianity and superimposed Race onto it, even the new religions like the Mormons, but every religion including Catholicism developed separate buildings for black and white congregations during this period, to their eternal shame.

When the Democrats started to discipline some of their own Southern racists like George Wallace this move was completed.

The Republican Party is now the safer home for racists but they remain as they always were, the party for big business and keeping the working man down. There was no revolution or changing places, apart from on the race issue.

The ultimate goal of Scottish nationalists is an independent state. I am more than convinced that an independent Scotland will be substantially poorer than it is now. There will be fewer opportunities for younger people including my grandchildren. And, yes, I do look at politics through then harsh lens of realism.

Finally, one thing which never fails to surprise is the Scottish nationalists’ re-write of our history. Of all emigrant destinations Scotland was the least hospitable to the Irish. The Irish in Scotland suffered more discrimination than the Irish in England, Australia or the USA. In terms of social mobility and in terms of health and wealth the Irish were at the bottom of the heap longer here than elsewhere. I certainly do not dislike my fellow Scots. I wish them well.

Scottish Labour candidate axed after mocking MP over her Catholic faith and defending Bloody Sunday soldier

EXCLUSIVE: Vanessa Shand also claimed the SNP were in favour of a “catholic monarchy”.

Scottish Labour has axed a candidate who taunted a party MP over her Catholic faith.

Vanessa Shand also accused the SNP of wanting to impose a “catholic monarchy” and backed a former soldier who was charged with murdering civilians on Bloody Sunday.

She withdrew as a council candidate in Perth and Kinross after a Record investigation into her comments.

Shand used to have a ‘I Stand With Soldier F’ twitter logo, which refers to the former paratrooper who was charged over his role in the Bloody Sunday massacre in Derry in 1972.

Thirteen civil rights demonstrators were killed when members of the British Army’s Parachute Regiment opened fire.

Soldier F faced murder charges over the killing of two people, James Wray and William McKinney, plus multiple counts of attempted murder.

The charges were dropped after the Public Prosecution Service (PPS) concluded there was “no longer a reasonable prospect” of key evidence against him being ruled admissible in court.

The Saville Inquiry, set up to get to the bottom of the tragic events, stated that there was “no doubt” Soldier F had shot father-of-six Paddy Doherty, who was unarmed.

In a separate tweet, prompted by Labour MP Rebecca Long-Bailey praising Jeremy Corbyn over the Northern Ireland peace process, she wrote: “Says the daughter of NI catholic parents.”

Shand, whose Facebook page says she stands for “fairness, equality and justice”, also tweeted in 2015: “So that’s the SNP’s game! They want to replace the UK monarchy with a catholic monarchy!! Well I never.”

A member of Scottish Labour’s governing executive at the time made a complaint about the Twitter activity in 2020.

It stated: “The Saville Report demonstrated comprehensively that those killed at Bloody Sunday were wholly innocent and that the Parachute Regiment was responsible for their unlawful killings.

“Perhaps more worryingly still, she has demonstrated a pattern of prejudicial behaviour towards those of the Catholic faith.”

The complaint added: “These tweets will cause grave offence to Catholic supporters and potential supporters of the Labour Party, and this is particularly true for those of an Irish background, and is therefore arguably grossly detrimental to the Labour Party.”

An SNP spokesperson said: “It’s welcome news that Vanessa Shane is no longer a candidate but it’s important that Scottish Labour reflect on how she ended up one in the first place.

“It’s clear that Scottish Labour is desperate to find local council candidates but it should not mean that principles are an afterthought.

“Anas Sarwar’s party’s recent track record with deeply divisive candidates demonstrates that there is a problem running through Scottish Labour that needs to be addressed.”

A Scottish Labour spokesperson said: “Every Scottish Labour candidate is expected to abide by our values – especially with regards to opposing forms of prejudice or hatred.

“The Scottish Labour Party will act on evidence that any candidate has fallen short of these standards.

“The person in question is no longer a Labour candidate.”

Her removal comes after Henry Dunbar, previously a leader of the Orange Order, was revealed as a Labour candidate in North Lanarkshire.

Shand said of the soldier logo: “I absolutely hear where you are coming from on this one, however there are two sides to every story. And I felt I just wanted to support him because I am of the veterans’ community.”

She said of the Long-Bailey tweet: “Yes, I did, and it probably wasn’t one of my greater moments in life.”

On the “catholic monarchy” tweet, she said: “Well, there it is in black and white. These have been looked at by others and not deemed as significant and so, yes, again, not one of my finest moments.”

  27. “Too wee, too stupid and too poor. The unionist mantra.”

    —-

Not so – those words fell from the lips of the Deputy First Minister, Mr John Swinney.

Of course Scotland is not too wee, nor, too stupid, nor, too small to become independent. However the Scottish people must be given the hard-facts if they are to make an informed choice. The propaganda & disinformation of the “thick” White Paper will not be good enough. The majority saw through it in 2014 & said “NO THANKS”. The case for separation from the UK is now infinitely weaker and would be rejected by an even bigger margin, if another referendum comes about; which is, in my opinion, very doubtful. The SNPcult’s overwhelming interest and concentration is to stay in power at Holyrood. Once Sturgeon and the ‘old guard’ go, there will be a fragmenting of the nationalist movement and the political landscape will change – history will judge the SNPcult’s time ‘in the sun’ – the verdict? – a lot of heat but not much light.

    .

Ryan Gemmell pled guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

A man has admitted exposing and touching his genitals outside Ibrox Stadium at the Rangers title party.

Ryan Gemmell, 36, was recorded on mobile phone footage which went viral on March 7, 2021.

Hundreds of Rangers fans had gathered outside Ibrox that day to celebrate the club’s Scottish Premiership title win.

Gemmell appeared to be near a number of fans in the short clip yards from the front entrance.

Court papers state that Gemmell conducted himself in a disorderly manner in that he exposed himself in the presence of people.

The charge goes on to say he then touched himself and committed breach of the peace.

Gemmell pled guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to the single charge.

Prosecutor Darren Harty said: “There are a schedule of previous convictions.”

Andy Lambie, defending, requested background reports from sheriff Tom Hughes.

The lawyer added: “My client is in a much more stable way of life.

“He is making serious attempts to organise his life.

“He has numerous previous convictions and a good number of them led to a lengthy period in custody.

“Since his release, this is the only matter which has arisen.

“He has been on bail and there has been no further offending.”

Sentencing was deferred until next month where more information surrounding the circumstances will be heard.

Its not communism that’s on offer at, WorkersPartyGB, its socialist, working class, common sense, politics that’s are not on offer anywhere else that I see in Britain, Jeremy Corbyn proposed ‘mild socialism’ and allowed himself to be slaughtered by the lying media, and allowed himself to be stabbed in the back by 95% of Labour MP’s who twice2 carried out a coup to remove him, and twice2 they failed, but instead of putting the 95% of MP’s on notice that they were being replaced, Jeremy promoted these back stabbers into his shadow cabinet in an attempt to bring the party together, which was a disaster, and should serve as a lesson to any serious party that everybody, MP’s, members, etc, agrees to, and backs the party policies, or go and find another party. That is not a cult, its the absolute oposite of a cult, go to their website and check them out for yourself. So, the Jeremy Corbyn saboteur experience, that is why, George Galloway, created the, WorkersPartyGB, as Labour parties working class, socialist members, wouldn’t get their favoured politics at any other party, where ALL other parties say one thing, then do another, so how can they be trusted??
