The curious significant of 1 June

1642

There’s something I’ve never been able to figure out for the last nine years.  When Gordon Strachan was announced as Celtic manager, on 1st June 2014, he apologised to the media for bumping their calls the previous week, as he was due to takeover on that date, and the announcement was embargoed until then.

No idea why the news was embargoed, but it was.  Tomorrow’s the 1st June.  If the same rules hold true now as when Gordon Strachan was appointed, there was little chance of an appointment in late May.

If you’re not going to the CQN 10-in-a-row Charity Golf day on 4 July the Sean’s Trust Charity Dinner is on the same night at the Fullarton Suits, Glasgow.  Sean’s Trust is run by the late St John Doyle’s partner, Linda.  If you’d like to attend let Lennybhoy know, lennybhoycfc@gmail.com

Let me know if you would like to attend the CQN Question and Answer evening at the Manor Club, Wimbledon, on 21 June, with a confirmed line-up of Lisbon Lion, John Hughes, and our own Brogan Rogan and Auldheid, celticquicknews@gmail.com

Visit the CQN Bookstore to get Tommy Gemmell to sign your personal copy of his tome, All the Best.

I don’t think Keano is the man but if Dermot says he is then it will be him.

Total vanity. Dermots promoting his own business with this appointment. I’m the owner of Celtic don’t you know.

There is simply no possibility of any club, not even Celtic, foisting an assistant on a manager that the manager doesn’t want.

The manager usually chooses his own assistant, but even if the board were to come up with a name, they would ask for the manager’s approval before taking it further. It would be utter madness to force an unwanted assistant on a manager. It just wouldn’t happen.

    Too ridiculous for words mate.

Nakasammi – sorry, I don’t believe that for one minute. You really think that RK would agree to being No. 2 to a young manager like Lenny?!

Maybe the shrewd billionaire DD knew what Neil’s reaction would be :-)

Roy, Neil’s resigned do want to be our new manager:-)

All conjecture but the truth is out there somehwhere

    Doc

As I posted that information was what I received and I’m simply using this blog to add to the debate.

I am extremely disappointed Neil left in the manner he did and I still believe something major must have taken place for him to quit

Brilliant listening on the wireless bud.

The commentators just seem like genuine enthusiasts and knowledgeable with it .

    Just magic .

  9. Tommytwistsandturns…..

Nope…….Lenny’s reputation is not as high as it maybe should be in Englandshire……

I can only judge on football fans I talk to and socialise with…..

They see the win over Barca as a one off and against a team that had peaked maybe 18 months previous to this.

He will probably get a gig a top half Championship side before anyone in EPL will take a punt on him.

Celtic’s reputation down here was not enhanced after the season just gone……Maybe the opposite………CL performance would have been regarded as embarrassing for a big club.

Barca 6-1 game was bad but my personal nightmare was v Ajax in Amsterdam…..Horrific performance against a very poor side.Lenny’s tactics were suspect sometimes but felt sorry for him that night considering Lawell left him up Shit Creek without a paddle in the transfer window.

The warning signs were there in Karagandy…….

  10. TET –

It’s 8am here. Stone cold sober me.

I was referring to your comment, “I wanted a foreign coach, but Desmondo has other plans.”

An Irish coach is a foreign coach. No?

  11. Nakasammi, I don’t know why Neil left but I don’t think it was anything to do with budgets I just think he felt like a change of environment, somewhere without beatings bombs and bullets, like I said earlier if he waited on the Darnell coming and then gone all this negative speculation would be 10 times worse.

This was the best time for him to go without a shadow of doubt.

    Hail Hail.

  12. If NL new he was leaving before our last game why not let the fans know ?

He deserved a send off for what he done for us , and put up with shit from every angle ….

Does anyone think that Sleekit McCoist will whisper into Roy Keane’s ear

    a) if Keano is appointed as Feltic manager, and

    b) if the Zombies ever get back to the top division in Scotland (assuming, of course, that we haven’t already left for newer climes).

  17. Roy Keane and John Collins……..

    NOW YER TALKING…….

Reckon we would still win SPFL if they pulled on their Adidas Predators for half the season too.

Rye catcher, Keane ticks none of the boxes for Celtic manager.

Successful track record? Took Sunderland up spending 10 s of millions in the process. Then things turned sour and he walked. Ipswich was a complete and utter disaster. He had them at 19 in the championship.

    European record. None

Good track record with bringing in low value players and making huge profits? No evidence of this in fact he wasted pots of cash.

Good with press? Debatable. Ok in England but wait till he starts on this village.

Good track record with managing players? None. The Sinderland players celebrated when he left.

I imagine he will have direct line to Dermot. He will not suffer any crap and will demand more money to spend. The evidence is there he will not spend it wisely. I do hope Dermot is indemnifying the potential loses.

Funnily enough for the first time in my memory I find the England chaps to be more realistic about their World Cup chances. Can’t find anyone chunterring about winning it.

Mind you there’s still two weeks to go so maybe they’ll yet work themselves into their more usual frothing frenzy lol.
