There’s something I’ve never been able to figure out for the last nine years. When Gordon Strachan was announced as Celtic manager, on 1st June 2014, he apologised to the media for bumping their calls the previous week, as he was due to takeover on that date, and the announcement was embargoed until then.
No idea why the news was embargoed, but it was. Tomorrow’s the 1st June. If the same rules hold true now as when Gordon Strachan was appointed, there was little chance of an appointment in late May.

Bobby. Think every agreed with ur view Playing a player who had not kicked a ball for 2 months was indeed strange, but his away team team selection that season were mostly baffling he said before swinecastle the ” he ended height and physical strength ” then selected flood who had not started for a while
His constant of Gary Caldwell in central midfield away from home was done to stop teams , but also stopped us having goal threats

So Rangers were “taken over” through the “purchase of liquidated assets”? http://t.co/g6961icg3e Absolutely laughable from @Martin1Williams
Roy Keane’s price on Betfair is back out to 1.6.
Curiouser & curiouser……….
This might be a wee help for those (like me) planning some hols in the near future, early next season.

Liverpool pay 4m for 32 yr old Ricky Lambert. In the meantime 29 yr old G Samaras is still looking for a club. Madness.

Roberto Martinez sees Aiden every day in training.
Why do you suppose that Aiden gets so little game time at Everton.
Why do you suppose that Spartak Moscow made no attempt to extend Aidens contract, and let him go for FREE?
—————————————————————-
TT
I don’t think that was the case with Spartak. Zbyszek posted news from a Russian site that they offered an extension which he refused as he was desperate to go to England.
Puzzled fans always come up with “mind yon game he dropped McGeady”. Aiden was playing very well at the time and should have been the first name on the team sheet, of that there is no doubt.
Better Celtic players than Aiden were kicked up and down the turf at ahem ‘the old lady’ without ever playing as well as they could, because they were targeted.
WGS tried to pull a flanker with wee Shaun, which might have worked were it not for mibbery, as Maloney was also targeted and fouled mercilessly. WGS is cute he got Celtic o.k., so cute, you’ll not hear him on honest mistakes or SFA corruption.
I might be wrong…but I cant see any manager of stature, accepting DD &PL transfer budget.
RK….id be very surprised
Champions League, while downsizing…..nah, don’t think so.
The usual MO…..is the cheapest and most pliable candidate.
IM guessing Owen Coyle.
As for Celtic moving to England…..nonsense.

I must point out up front – Georgios and me never got on – I always thought he was a luxury
but I am happy to bet you a pint that Lambert wil score at least 15 goals for Liverpool next year (because he is a very good player – and the reason why he is only 4m is because he is 32) and Georgios – well the fact that nobody has “snapped him up” sort of tells the story
A lovely man and I wish him nothing but success but IMHO just not good enough reguraly enough – I wish him health and happiness

The stadium was emptying last season – like loads of stadiums in the country for various reasons – fitba was gash – too expensive – kick-off times – police brutality backed by the folk ye give yer dosh to etc….

Btw – nobody questioned WGS’s Celtic record – it’s just that there are some of us who don’t do ‘rosy’ specs.
Apologies for any typos – sorry
On the keane issue
My hero, joint favorite player ever with Henrik and Liam coyle.
Only 28 so grew up watching him and loved watching him play , espcially hen lining up for ireland, saipan abdolutely broke my heart. Was gutted .. Big build up to ireland in world cup with decent team then that happened.
My thoughts on that are quick and simple.. Keano was 100% right in everything he did but he made knee jerk reaction (not his first) .
Best thing would have been to give his all then after world cup come out and say what he thought of the set up and the ejits in the FAI.. Retire if he felt that was nessecary but not during world cup.
I enjoy listening to him and hearing his view on football because hes honest and says it how it is, anazing how few of those guys are about.
Regarding managing celtic.. Wouldnt be in my top 3 but neither was Lennon so my record isnt great.. Keanes is pretty poor but apart from ireland he has had some time away from it and hopefully picked up some ideas etc
It will either go 2 ways.. Complete disaster and players will hate him or his will to win will pass on to them and get the best out of players.. Who he appoints as number is maybe as important as keano getting the job.
As said not my choice but it wont be the worst thing in the world to see him in the parkhead dugout.

ha ha and cheers. Don’t suppose it helps if I say I can’t even remember bidding for it!! :-)
I would certainly recommend Cinc Sentits though… The food was amazing.

sorry but your comment doesn’t make sense to me.
My point is if Martinez saw fit to drop him ,does that me that he doesn’t understand Everton?
i just don”t understand your cognitive reasoning.

Oh, and btw…WGS’s 1st game in charge of Celtic
cost the club what? £10mill? £15mill? £20mill?

I reckon Sami will find a club no problem, and one with a decent profile.
Frustrating at times, but he is tailor-made for a counter-attacking side.
God,he drove me nuts at times, but amongst other performances his display against Rennes was the one that sticks in my mind.
A goal down,he won that game. For me,the finest individual performance in the last ten years, but others will have different ones from different players.
I just remember him getting fouled, the decision going against him and picking himself up and going-ffs,that’s it!
For that alone,I’ll remember him fondly.
PS-I don’t get to see us in the flesh as much as I would like, which narrows my options a bit!

“If Gordon ‘got’ Celtic – why did he drop McGeady and as a consequence,
blow 4 i a r for us?”
BMCUW answers most of your points.
Though it was a bit of a shock to learn that Aiden was not going to play against Rangers at Ibrox on 9th May 2009, it did not seriously undermine us. Aiden, whom I loved as a player, had never played well at Ibrox previously for any manager. His only stand out game against them was the LC final win of two months previously. So, WGS “dropped” Aiden, did he? And we lost the league because of that?? Well, only if you have the memory of a goldfish.
We lost that Ibrox match narrowly by 1:0, same as we had lost the same fixture earlier in the season when Aiden did not play through injury, I believe. We lost 3 of the 4 away fixtures in 2008 (Aiden was brought on as a sub in a 3:0 loss and played 90 mins in a 1:0 defeat) and 2007 (played in a 1:1 draw- Gravesen scored, and in a 0:2 defeat) there with Aiden playing
Aiden was brought back for the very next match after that Ibrox defeat and we won 2:1 before we went to Easter Road, in the driving seat to win the title, and that is where we blew it. Guess who played for Celtic that day? and again the following week when we drew 0:0 with Hearts.
As Bobby says, the strikers fired blanks in 3 of the last 4 fixtures. WGS tried to repeat the successful 07/08 strategy of sticking with the guys who had been winning. This time it backfired but it had nothing to do with leaving Aiden out of one game at Ibrox.

My reasoning is – McGeady, our best player at that time was, dropped for the title decider v’s the huns with 4 in a row for us at stake – for Maloney who hadn’t played all season with injuries?
Did WGS, who ‘got’ Celtic….come out to the fans and be the honest wee guy being portrayed on here and, hold up his hands and say ‘sorry’ for effffing it up?
The difference is – Martinez has better players at his disposal(who’s names escape me just now) and, he wasn’t playing a league decider against his bitter rivals.
Hopefully that is clearer?
It’s not the foibles and faults of our previous managers that are important; it’s the qualities of the next manager we need to concentrate on.
What happened in the 08/09 season is not goin’ to be of much use in the 14/15 season

What was it tha t Dev said? – “Our best weapon is our refusal.” That’ll do for me.
I disagree with your ‘angle’ on the subject – preferring
my own – if you don’t mind?
That is all.
Sorry for double post – gremlins – Off oot.
Ain’t hindsight wonderful. I recommended its use for all future decision’s.
Sammi is going to play on the big stage in a couple of weeks time.
Even if he has an average WC I would still expect him to have a choice of decent clubs when it is over.

Clearer, but no more accurate.
Shaun had only been out since February 2009 and had been a used sub in the 2 matches prior to that Ibrox fixture, replacing Aiden in one of them. You’re pretty cavalier with facts, no??
You been hanging about with Gerry McNee again??
Tony Casscarino now stating the obvious – RK poor Man Manager – Most on here agree and have a few concerns about RK management skills
So is it sensible or naive to assume DD and or PL have had a chat with RK about his Man Management ???
And is it even more sensible or naive to assume that RK has had a chat with himself about his ability to “control his demons” before deciding to take up the option of managing our club
OR do we just get him as he is and run with it ??
Am I naive to assume DD and PL have taken RK demons into account
Well its not going to be boring is it ???

Don’t think BMCUW has an angle or is prone to “cheap” points. He is also not a fan of WGS and I don’t share his opinion on that.
I don’t mind you having an angle or an opinion that differs. It is being fast and loose with the facts behind the opinion that counts.
Anyways, you are off oot and I will be too in 20 minutes.

Thats it – Off oot.
Never have been a RK fan. Seemed too maniacally focused to me!
Excellent footballer but I did not welcome him (I don’t mean I didn’t support him on the field) as a player. Felt we were doing a courtesy and Celtic should IMO never do that.
As a manager he’s had limited success and seems to be, like many others, OK but nothing more.
However some opinions expressed regarding his apparent likely appointment seem to me OTT.
With the exception of those expressing a preference for a European coach, which is valid to my way of thinking, I can see little difference between the other mentioned candidates, excepting those like PH & JMac with too little or no experience at a highish level. (I know same applied to NL).
If going ‘local’ my own preference would be Malky but he or any of the other ‘locals’ are not overwhelmingly preferable to RK, unless I’m missing something.
With the exception of the Irish walk-out, I can’t see why some comments are so strongly against him.
As far as I can assess Celtic have only twice in the clubs entire history appointed a manager universally accepted as already successful… Jock Stein & Martin O’Neill. Billy McNeil was overwhelmingly acclaimed as manager but had won nothing. Our situation now is much as it has always been, taking a bit of a punt to a greater or lesser extent on the likes of…David Hay, Wim, Liam Brady, John Barnes, Tommy Burns, Lou Macari, etc etc.
Seems to me RK has better or as good credentials as those mentioned above. So if it is Roy I will give him a big cheer and do all I can as a supporter to help him succeed!
67 European Cup Winners-RK does not suffer fools gladly, and would guess he has reminded Cascarino a few times of his limitations as a footballer.HH
Wish the new season was a bit nearer…..can’t wait……looks like transfers will be slow, with most being completed after the World Cup ….. ‘not good’ for our CL Prelims preparations….
I would just love it, and I mean Love It, if we employed a manager with manicured finger nails.
