The curious significant of 1 June

1642

There’s something I’ve never been able to figure out for the last nine years.  When Gordon Strachan was announced as Celtic manager, on 1st June 2014, he apologised to the media for bumping their calls the previous week, as he was due to takeover on that date, and the announcement was embargoed until then.

No idea why the news was embargoed, but it was.  Tomorrow’s the 1st June.  If the same rules hold true now as when Gordon Strachan was appointed, there was little chance of an appointment in late May.

If you’re not going to the CQN 10-in-a-row Charity Golf day on 4 July the Sean’s Trust Charity Dinner is on the same night at the Fullarton Suits, Glasgow.  Sean’s Trust is run by the late St John Doyle’s partner, Linda.  If you’d like to attend let Lennybhoy know, lennybhoycfc@gmail.com

Let me know if you would like to attend the CQN Question and Answer evening at the Manor Club, Wimbledon, on 21 June, with a confirmed line-up of Lisbon Lion, John Hughes, and our own Brogan Rogan and Auldheid, celticquicknews@gmail.com

Visit the CQN Bookstore to get Tommy Gemmell to sign your personal copy of his tome, All the Best.

What with him mentioning favourite colours like pink, lemon, wearing dresses,I’m very concerned.

I think he’s lining up the sarong-wearing David Beckham as manager.

    You heard it here first…

  3. The curious significance of no new article . . . guess the 1 June date had no significance after all.

Correct. JVOH was struggling at that time. We struggled to score goals and won something like 10 of our last 22 games.

I think we slipped up by loaning out Sheridan who scored a few for Motherwell.

Irish Times reporting this morning that further talks held over the weekend which led to @celticfc job offer which Roy Keane has accepted.

  13. If it’s about speculations I would speculate why Roy Keane is not going to be next Celtic manager? It has nothing to do with his coaching record or on field career. I would say it was wrong game to play with Martin O’Neil making the pressure on Celtic and making damage to recruiting process at Celtic.

You can make sweeping gernalisations they just don’t stand up to a bit of questioning, however, not ever great player makes a great manager and not ever average player makes a great manager. :-)

  15. Wouold have loved Bobby Robson to have been Celtic manager when he was offered. Bloddy hate Newcastle so I do!.

Brian Clough’s goal scoring ratio of 251 goals in 274 games is only bettered by Jimmy McGrory.

Chief football writer in Miami England manager Roy Hodgson expects his players to show pride at representing their country by singing the national anthem at the World Cup.

Hodgson wants his squad to demonstrate their patriotism when “God Save The Queen” is played at games in Brazil.

“You very rarely play against opponents and they haven’t got their hands on their hearts and singing their anthem as loud as they can,” said Hodgson, 66.

“We made the decision very early on to do what every other team does.”

Boris Johnson has taken revenge on Sepp Blatter and the other FIFA delegates who destroyed England’s bid to host the World Cup by kicking them out of London’s Dorchester hotel for the 2012 Olympic Games.

FIFA president Mr Blatter and his team had been invited to stay in exclusive £1,000-a-night suites at the five-star hotel for more than a week during the Olympics.

The gesture was part of the charm offensive designed to woo FIFA – football’s world governing body – in the run-up to Thursday’s 2018 World Cup vote.

If Roy Keane negotiates a sizeable budget and I hope he does, I’d like to know why a similar budget wasn’t available to NFL.

    V

Thinking that aswel when people saying keane has been given big budget etc .. Doubt lenny was given that big of a budget.

But then again lenny signed most of the players so really in theory a new gaffer should be given more transfer money as he is inheriting someone elses side.

Hope lawell is working his magic in getting decent fee’s for a few.
