The curious significant of 1 June

1642

There’s something I’ve never been able to figure out for the last nine years.  When Gordon Strachan was announced as Celtic manager, on 1st June 2014, he apologised to the media for bumping their calls the previous week, as he was due to takeover on that date, and the announcement was embargoed until then.

No idea why the news was embargoed, but it was.  Tomorrow’s the 1st June.  If the same rules hold true now as when Gordon Strachan was appointed, there was little chance of an appointment in late May.

If you’re not going to the CQN 10-in-a-row Charity Golf day on 4 July the Sean’s Trust Charity Dinner is on the same night at the Fullarton Suits, Glasgow.  Sean’s Trust is run by the late St John Doyle’s partner, Linda.  If you’d like to attend let Lennybhoy know, lennybhoycfc@gmail.com

Let me know if you would like to attend the CQN Question and Answer evening at the Manor Club, Wimbledon, on 21 June, with a confirmed line-up of Lisbon Lion, John Hughes, and our own Brogan Rogan and Auldheid, celticquicknews@gmail.com

Visit the CQN Bookstore to get Tommy Gemmell to sign your personal copy of his tome, All the Best.

EDB totally agree, if the league is a foregone conclusion, then its all about a manager who can get us to CL Group stage and punch above our weight provided the manager is given the right resources? As someone said maybe Neil was taken for granted & his mood was misjudged so it was sell high provide no resources unless he qualified for group stages one hand behind his back. Now its backing a new manager who will be well aware that he could be on a hiding to nothing if there’s no cl group stages to look forward to.

  3. Billy Bhoy 05:

I apologise, the 40 Honest Mistakes that I posted I did so from off the net, I have a much better copy in my drawer somewhere.

    I should have posted that.

Do you know why I stand up for other Celtic Supporters who are a wee bit noisey?

I was once at a few games at Hampden when Celtic played Rangers, and in the day there was an element of huns, quite a large element of huns, who after Celtic humped them would leave early and come east to the Celtic end for one reason and one reason only… trouble.

Where were the police when all this was going on?

Well… Where were the police when all this was going on?

And violence would erupt and five or six thousand of them would hold the courage of twenty or thirty thousand of us to ransom of our fear.

And in amongst our numbers were a few who did not scramble back up the Hampden steps but who charged down it and straight into the waiting mob. And little by little, drip by drip. breath by breath, and embarrassment by embarrassment, we found our courage and in finding it we found their fear.

    We found their fear.

That any of us should dare stand up to any pre-destination and the flute.

Ex-pat Scots/Irish journalists speak out a bit. Not as much as the non-journalists who live in Glasgow though. Those new breed pen warriors were never on the steps of Hampden, but if they’d been born into that time, they’d be the ones charging down rather than crawling up.

  7. It’s beginning to look a lot like Keano…

Not my first choice-for what it’s worth-but since the mid 70’s I’ve only got Cesar and the Blessed Martin as my first picks.

It should be very interesting and I feel the appointments around him will be crucial. I have a gut feeling though that this could work and he’ll join the success stories of managers and avoid the Barnes/Mowbray appointments. This will not be a smooth transition but perhaps we need some excitement, controversy and dare I say a siege mentality to generate interest, get bums on seats and re-energise our squad.

    Interesting times lie ahead.

But what is at the bottom of it?

  9. kitalba

I like that…”finding their fear” had a similar experience myself in the mid eighties myself whrn surrounded by dozens of the mankies on London Rd before a lesgue mstch one night. No need to say more than the fact that my old da , brother in law and self made it to match and a couple of the other lot were heading to Pullars of Perth to get the shite stains from their jeans.

To other matters, already we have started doing the work for the MSM. Why can’t we just back the next manager?

I do not mind if it has to be RK, why the hell should I question his record, I was underwhelmed with the appointment of WGS and NL…..they turned out well enpugh

  10. Kitalba,

I would have buried their club and let their fans disperse to follow other teams, like they did in the eighties.

I can’t remember the furore when we were on our knees and about to fold, wasn’t there a hearse parked outside our ground back then? Who sent it?

Some fans miss the knot in the stomach atmosphere that the games generatated and going into work with a smile when we won… I don’t, I have a permanent smile now and know how much thems are hurting in our shadow. HH

  12. I’ve and idea what we could do with all the huns, what about interment camps with big ovens… eh! what do you think, we could put all the fenian cauliflowers and turnips with whips in charge backed up with rabid alsation dogs, would that be the final solution enough for some of you sectarian fookwits?

If you have an alternative better solution, please be brave enough to post it here for posterity.

  17. Kitalba, offer them education and love.

As Sipsini alluded to, they will dissapate and wither, they won’t follow a club that can’t get anywhere near us in footballing terms.
