The curious significant of 1 June

1642

There’s something I’ve never been able to figure out for the last nine years.  When Gordon Strachan was announced as Celtic manager, on 1st June 2014, he apologised to the media for bumping their calls the previous week, as he was due to takeover on that date, and the announcement was embargoed until then.

No idea why the news was embargoed, but it was.  Tomorrow’s the 1st June.  If the same rules hold true now as when Gordon Strachan was appointed, there was little chance of an appointment in late May.

If you’re not going to the CQN 10-in-a-row Charity Golf day on 4 July the Sean’s Trust Charity Dinner is on the same night at the Fullarton Suits, Glasgow.  Sean’s Trust is run by the late St John Doyle’s partner, Linda.  If you’d like to attend let Lennybhoy know, lennybhoycfc@gmail.com

Let me know if you would like to attend the CQN Question and Answer evening at the Manor Club, Wimbledon, on 21 June, with a confirmed line-up of Lisbon Lion, John Hughes, and our own Brogan Rogan and Auldheid, celticquicknews@gmail.com

Visit the CQN Bookstore to get Tommy Gemmell to sign your personal copy of his tome, All the Best.

  1. Going by the choices we seem to have to pick our next manager from, in all honesty, there ain’t that much between them.

None have set the heather alight, quality won’t bother their arse for the comparative pittance they will get in scotland, so we are left with what we are left with.

It also seem that most who don’t want RK have a problem with Keano the man, which I find quite astonishing, as 99% of what you will know of him will have come from the msm, who will spin any amount of crap for a headline.

I have heard him called a multitude of derogatory names on here, quite disgusting really coming from Celtic supporters.

He who casts the first stone etc.

  2. If anyone really believes Kojo will leave the blog if/ when RK is appointed then they are completely ignoring his 10 year history here.

There MAY be a pause in postings in Kojo’s name but I don’t doubt there will be postings from the Vegas coterie.

I look forward to the style variation.

I’ll buy Dan as long as he promises to bring his mates and move in next door to Farage.

The imaginatively named Salad Dodger wins the

    Greyhound Derby @ 16/1.

The owner lifts £200k in prize money plus

    £50k in bets.

Huge result for small time trainer.

  5. TET, nah, DD will stick to type, it has, largely been successful. BTM being the only exception.

And Kitalba out up the 40 Honest Mistakes dossier earlier, so he was hardly playing on a level playing field.

  6. Like every buy all managerial appointments have an element of risk.

Keane would be interest and further enhance our Irish connection (which is at an all time high).

I wouldn’t mind a good foreign appointment either but I get the impression DD doesn’t think it’s worth the risk.

I’ve had a dislike for RK since his pronouncement a few years ago that he would love to finish off his career at Celtic.

The inference I took from that was that Celtic FC was only a retirement home in his way of thinking. I was disgusted at the time and my disgust didn’t lessen when he came. Clearly miles by his best and we should never have accommodated him.

His management record is poor and his transfers has been awful.

My favourite would be Stevie Clarke but stories abound in North Ayrshire to the effect he is not interested because of the impact it would have on his family, and it is an extended one. That is the rumour so I wouldn’t take it as read but maybe some substance.

  11. If it is RK, does this show the club has ambition, wants to make some inroads in Europe or are planning to/ expecting to move leagues?

This occurred to me as I can’t see RK coming to any club that’s not been able to show him they have plans and ambition.

Just a thought, they are lonely, but do come along now and then.

  12. Doc

Aye, his track record is pretty good.

I honestly can’t see given the choices why Keano is getting all the abuse.

Some are mentioning Petrescu, he has been offered 2.5 mill from somewhere hot, the max he would get at Celtic would be 500-750K.

I also heard that Clarke isn’t interested cos he won’t subject his family to the probable abuse they would get, understandable.

I like his stance regarding Scottish football. I pretty much agree with him but I am not going to take being abused for hours for trying to act as peacemaker …no matter how much BMCUWP might not read the blog and consider that I should accept his stuff.

  14. Roy keane needs redemption. Three or four years cycling through Celtic with successive titles and a hopefully ecl qualification will help boost his stock.

Just back in from my usual wee nightly walk in the countryside…..are you still ranting like a hun Kitalba, or have you been able to separate resistance from bigotry in your warped little world …..as Sipsini alluded to earlier, it has been a wonderful few years where we Celtic fans can go to a game of SPORT and enjoy the sporting aspect (level playing field)..they reap what they sow. and, as Michael Collins stated…. “I hate them for making me hate them”

  16. TET, agreed on all points.

RK will do well, interesting times.

But then whoever comes in will get my, and all Tims support.

  17. BB05

I don’t blame him for that, it should imo be laid at the door of Celtic, if any blame is to be apportioned, Keane certainly didn’t need the cash then, or now.

I also think he was unfortunate with an injury, had he not had it, he would have strolled the spl for another couple of seasons, and could have been invaluable in europe.

I heard the SC rumour from a very reliable source, I believe it to be true.

  18. Doc

I hope you are right about getting the complete backing of the support.

Going by what I have read on here and other blogs, many are praying for him to feck it up, I dread to think of the meltdown if he does.

Anyways, he has my support 100%, as will anyone who plays or manages us, tis what we should do.

    Roy Keane the player….wow!

    Roy Keane the manager….eh whit?!

Can someone please point out the reasons why he should get the Celtic job?

If Roy gets the nod, then it’s all about resurrecting his managerial career so that he can get a good EPL club down the line. Couldn’t believe some muppet on here earlier saying that we need RK more than he needs us! Who else would give him this opportunity?!

We need an up and coming manager with a proven track record, one who has achieved success while working with a limited budget. One who has a history of improving & developing players. I really hope the appointment is imaginative and surprising, but somehow I just can’t see it.

Och that wee thing, he’d be much better off in a tenement in Partick!

On another note I think the treatment of Neil and his family may well influence others before considering the Celtic job, I’m sure if I had read or heard about I would be careful before bringing my family to the city esp. if I have Celtic connections and family here…

Bigots trade on fear that’s what they do..

Whether it’s Keane or someone else their first action as manager should be to bring Sammi back to the club. The big guy is a diamond both on and off the pitch.

I cannot, for a second, believe we are contemplating a manager whose current home has an “inset log effect gas fire”.

What would Willie Maley, James McGrory or Jock Stein think of a log effect gas fire?

    I blame the (gas) bored!
