Celtic’s primary job tonight is to defend properly, something we have singularly failed to do this season to anything like the levels achieved last term. This is not solely to do with the defence, and has nothing to do with the goalkeeper (who missed the Legia debacle), but is a function of the entire team.
Scott Brown and Stefan Johansen have the primary job of protecting the back four but most importantly, whoever plays wide midfield, has to partner with the corresponding full back. The full back positions have not been stable recently. Emilio looked to be back to his best at the weekend, but his form since returning from the World Cup has been erratic. We’ve had Efe Ambrose, Adam Matthews and Mikael Lustig at right back, leaving Callum McGregor little chance to establish a working relationship.
We have the speed, and Salzburg have the defensive record, to suggest we can score on the break, but focus should be on ensuring this is not an open, fluid, game of football.

I’ve never waved a blue and white – nor red, white and blue – flag in my life. Nationalism holds nothing for me, so I’ve found the political question of our time to be a difficult, technical, assessment, principally about jobs – Scotland’s real need.
This time tomorrow we will know the verdict and whether it’s Yes or No, we will come together behind green and white flags once more. In the event the polls are accurate, and No wins an unconvincing victory, use your voice in as many places you can, and let the chastened UK powers now that if they have any intention of Nation Building, they must use their influence to stop the exclusion of Scottish clubs from the dominant England-and-Wales football market.
Many people in Scotland feel culturally and economically excluded by this England-and-Wales legally permissible cartel. It suits the regions of England, it suits Wales, but it costs jobs and income in Scotland, is unjust and must end.
Allowing Scottish clubs to enter this market would bring tens of millions of £s into the east end of Glasgow every year. It would also establish emotional and cultural ties among groups in society who feel disenfranchised, and who the Westminster parties seem to have lost. In political terms, reaching out to football is a no-brainer.
Nation building is part art, part science, but it doesn’t work if you exclude people on what they hold dear.

All I have provided is some statistics that show that while 16% of the scottish population say they are catholics, only 12% of the police force say they are catholics. This is an outcome based statistic (i.e. what happens in reality). If I asked for application details no doubt police scotland will say they dont have that information. I refer you to my answer to malone bhoy. It may well be that less scottish catholics are applying to join the police force but that just means that police scotland should be trying to do something about that? But they dont even look at the measure so obviously they arent?

Think I will go and live on Elba .
I had a serious fall out with a very good friend ( 42 years worth ) on the 2nd of May !997 . The reason ? My belief that Tony Blair was a Snake Oil seller . Big fall out -we never spoke again .

regardless I am not trying to persuad anyone with the figures. On their own they are not particularly important. My theory is and remains that scotland is institutionally sectarian (anti catholic). I thought the police force is and I had to put a FOI request in to see if I was right. The figures stand on their own and there is no other information required to see that there is an imbalance. malone bhoy may be right about catholics being less inclined to join the police force. But the police force should want to do something about that.
This is only hard for you to accept because you cant contemplate anything that you think threatens your need for a yes vote.

I am hopeful of a positive performance and draw tonight. More based in hope than what I have witnessed so far from the Bhoys.
I agree that going by the polls the likely outcome is a slim No majority.
I hope that as a nation and a support we do not let our politicians off the hook with regards their Vow of whatever it is they have offered. It will be difficult to measure their Vow against what they eventually offer.
As for the footballing geography. It is wholly moot as politicians have no interest in realigning football in anyway what so ever. English and Welsh football bodies do not want us and neither do the more powerful TV companies. Thus the status quo will never change.

Hamiltontim. I am no longer a practicisng catholic. My wife and kids are. I have experienced the discrimination first hand. The need for scotland to admit it has an issue and tackle it is long overdue.
However that does not make the catholic church infalible.
Holding these views is not inconsistent.
There are more important things than football.
Celtic will have more chances for victories but Scotland has only one chance today.
I hope that enough of us grab that chance …… Yes..

Celtic FC have Lord Reid, Brian Wilson, Lord Livingston of parkhead and not forgetting the formidable DD who has many political friends in high places, when you have that amount of political clout within better together, getting Celtic in to the EPL should be easy
Well like today’s vote I have no idea how tonight’s game will go.
