Motherwell are on a wretched run of results. Since February they have played 8 games, all in the Premiership, lost five, drawn two and won only once. By contrast, they won 7 of their previous 9 league games. The nosedive in form started with a defeat away to Dundee, a result that went considerably against the run of play. That game over two months ago was the last they played against a side from the bottom half of the table. The intensity of games against more challenging sides depleted their resources.
Despite this, the solitary win during this period – at Ibrox – and a draw against leaders Hearts has twice in succession demoted the side favourites to win the title. That honour went from Newco, to Hearts and now sits with Celtic. They are more than capable of taking a third scalp above them in three games.
Motherwell will again be without Celtic-loanee, Stephen Welsh, who has been a towering force for the Lanarkshire club this season. We discussed the wisdom of allowing him to go back out on loan in January, with Celtic short in central defence, but his last minute equaliser against Newco, as well as performances helping Motherwell pick up points against Hearts and Newco, suggest the table would look significantly different had he stayed at Celtic.
Right back O’Donnell is usually moved inside to cover when one of the Motherwell central defenders is missing, with Sparrow deputising on the right. Celtic got a goal from this side the last time the teams met in March. Attacking down our left is likely to be a priority.
This is the day we have all been waiting for. Players should leave nothing on the field. Our biggest challenge of the season is there to be overcome.

If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a bhoy, my son!
In addition to Welsh, the Muthers are without his fellow defenders Paul McGinn (captain) and Jordan McGee.
Looks like Askou will put out something of a makeshift defence.
Eh, league table on the right of the screen is a little outdated.
Wish it was 8PM already as I have no mind for work today.
Regards Motherwell’s drop in form, I had wondered if behind the scenes the players might already know of managerial movement underway as seemed to be known about Ange before he left when our levels seemed to drop a little. It only takes a small drop to affect results.
Either way they will be right up for tonight as we will no doubt. Score early then get a 2nd for my nerves please bhoys. Not sure I could take the 4-3 suggested earlier!!
C’mon the hoops.
Nervous already 😬

Today feels to be the winning or losing of this league to me. Motherwell looked dead on their feet for most of the second half against Hearts. They’ve players missing and probably don’t have the squad depth for this run of games. We’re just off the best performance in many weeks.
Win tonight and we’ve one hand on the trophy.
Someone mentioned 4-3 away win at Murderwell the year of the 10 men won the league.
The 4-3 game i remember mostly for Danny Mcgrain scoring maybe even two.
Cant remember any other goals from him unless we count Hampdump riot.
I was at Well and huns games in 79 as a 13 year old.
Happy days
The press and radio have covered a lot about the ghost of Albert Kidd at Dens Park but we have the ghost of Scott McDonald at Fir Park. Identical situations – 2 late goals swung the league.
If we are still in the race tonight my tactics would be to declare that all our goalkeepers are injured for Saturday and we get a emergency singing who will go up for a corner in the last minute and score the winning goal. The person I have identified is the grandson of Albert Kidd.
If we drew and Hearts won by a goal, our GD would be stuck at 29 and their GD would be 33.
So a 2-0 win at CP on Saturday would give us the title.
What I don’t see happening is the Jambos to win 4 0 or better but that would mean a 4 0 win on Saturday for us (again if we draw tonight).
Prediction is a one goal win for the top two sides.
This is now all about what Celtic do. Nothing else! por cierto
Total focus on one game, tonight’s, afterwards the arithmetic becomes relevant or not, the team seem very well focused which is comforting in times of high stress, Hearts fans I know, not many, are sick with anxiety.
Hrvatski jim.
Shrewd point
Over the weekend I read of MoN bookending victories over old and new club with great goals.
It would be prudent
We experienced great trauma as you imply at Fir Park too I i think we will harass n press them down.
Our experience of winning ansd having been here on the run in will strengthen us.We have hard shift tonight.1win please
Hope all well
Hail Hail
Can’t understand why “newco” were ever favourites. I said on here when they had 66 points with six games to play that with the schedule they had they wouldn’t get above high 70s which wouldn’t be enough.
Good afternoon all. Here we go again.

Utterly appalling.
Why was there no woke idiots with purple hair and rings through the noses, or Women with Adam’s apples bulging oot thur big she-hulk necks??
What kind of club is it?
Sad are the homes….on virtue signaling avenue…
We are up against a good team and a good coach at home with nothing to lose. It just takes a lucky goal and a it could go wrong. If the league goes tonight the boys have done brilliantly to recover to this stage. We will just need to accept it. But feeling fairly confident that this will go to Saturday. I wouldn’t be surprised at two draws tonight, at Fir Park and Tynecastle, which would be fine. I want us to go in to Saturday knowing we need to win, rather than a draw being enough. If we do go into Saturday knowing any win will do I think we’ll blow Hearts away.
Bhoys Town @ 1.39pm
Like everyone else finding a good night’s sleep has been difficult recently because of all the mental arithmetic around the various permutations.
Agree tonight is a challenge but what a prize in store- win and we go to Parkhead this weekend to win the most unlikely of titles. I am very relaxed about Saturday , less so about tonight.
Can anyone confirm something which the media have neglected with their fairy tale ending of Hearts winning the league.
If Celtic draw and Hearts win say 3-0 tonight then we are on 77 points and Hearts 80. Our goal difference becomes 35 versus our 29. We then beat them 3-0 thus bringing our goal difference to 32 and theirs drops to 32 also. It’s a tie!
Question: does it now default to most goals scored or results in head to heads?
No wonder sleep is difficult and that is beside actually watching our anxiety inducing games.
Mon the hoops🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀

….
Pretty sure it’s goals scored.
HH
Seems to be something of a nervous excitement on the blog today
Very much in line with my own feelings
8pm seems a long way away, need to keep busy for another 351 minutes
Garcia
Goal diff then scored then head to head according to beeb:

Hoping for any combination of results tonight (other than Hearts winning the league tonight obv) that takes this out of the equation.
Thanks QuadBhoy.
So under my scenario 4-0 at the weekend wins it for us.
Let’s go!🍀
Correction.
A 3-0 win levels everything but the next test is goals scored. We win!🍀
It’s all on us now guys, just turn up and win…..
JFW
Never been this antsy prior to a Motherwell game.
Must be BIG.
Keeping optimistic by constantly reminding myself we’ve got MON.
8 bells seems aaaaaaagggeeessss away.
Just win Celtic.
Please.
🍀
my gut tells me we will win big tonight.
Well have a couple of decent strikers so beware
kingLUBO
Quietly confident, but no doubt we will be on another Celtic nerve shredding roller coaster ride.
You would need an SCE Ordinary Level in Arithmetic to work out all the possible scenarios…under rule C36
What we need to do is render some of those scenarios obsolete…(as indeed is said qualification)
By winning tonight….
Not a given. Every SPL team, every team, has had its moments against us this season, inc Motherwell
2 goals against us back in October, 2 goals @ the end of December, and 1 goal in a 3-1 defeat @ The Park a couple of months back. As Paul67 pointed out a wee while back the way we started the game against Hibs away provided the template for the way forward, we replicate that, and, while you can’t always get what you want …..you get what you need…

But whos gonna be the bloody manager?
JBA is my guess, who Toulouse are after as well….
https://gen.sendtric.com/countdown/cw6z78zb6v
Danny Rohl wanted by Wigan
JBA but with a period of MON handover and wee Shaun more engaged with player development.
Foz / Mick there for continuity also but JBA to bring his right hand man.
Whole new Football Department required, grass roots coaching, scouting, someone to oversee transfers in and out,not accountants and lawyers, who happened to be at the Club
