The difficult January transfer window

372

The script was written. Dedryck Boyata was destined to open the scoring against Hamilton Accies yesterday.  The only surprise was that this wasn’t followed by ‘a Dedryck moment’, as he mis-controlled for an equaliser.  Brendan now has some big decisions to make about the player, but with Jozo Simunovic and Jack Hendry injured, we are down to only two fit central defenders heading into the games against Suduva and Newco, the latter after the transfer window closes (Marvin Compper isn’t even in the debate).

We continually hear that January is a difficult time to sign players.  That being the case, we might get as much money for Dedryck then as now.  I would also be concerned about signing a player a day or two before throwing him into an atmospheric (cough) capacity game.  Especially if he is young.

Brendan has made his thoughts known on our defending this season, but yesterday’s footage from Fir Park will give him some ideas for this Sunday’s game.  With so much in play, you feel there is a pivotal week ahead.

BBC RADIO SCOTLAND reporting that EX Rangers players and staff have just a few weeks to address their EBT tax demands or they will face increased penalties.

Strangely, it was the headline story.

Don’t worry the Bigoted Broadcasting Company will helping them out by giving them overtime as pundits!

Very depressing to read last night from Burnley78 that Richard Wilson has editorial input at the BBC , pretty obvious he has had an effect already, even outdoing their cousins at STV at times which is some achievement.

Another who spent time at the Herald, although I’d stopped reading it by then, and direct descendant of Gallagher , Traynor and Broadfoot with a few others in between. This gathering of placemen in positions of influence goes back to Murray and is one King has attempted to continue.

*you’ll find this goes back to primrose-ure when he pledged the kinning park side tae the craft.

Taken from the 1912 pledge by bob wilson’s grandfather:

“THE 1912 PLEDGE, BY JOHN URE PRIMROSE EFFECTIVELY CAUSED RANGERS F.C., A FOOTBALL CLUB, TO JOIN THE MASONIC LODGE. PRIMROSE THE RANGERS CHAIRMAN, AND BILL STRUTH, WHO IS AN IBROX LEGEND, IMMEDIATELY STARTED TO RECRUIT AMONG THE RANKS OF THE MASONIC AND ORANGE LODGES. AS ONE MIGHT IMAGINE, THEY DID NOT RECRUIT PLAYERS ONLY, THEY RECRUITED FANS, BUSINESS ASSOCIATES, TRADESMEN, CLERKS, ACCOUNTANTS, POLICEMEN, JUDICIAL OFFICERS OF THE COURT, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY MEN OF THE MEDIA, WHO WOULD CHAMPION THE CAUSE OF GLASGOW RANGERS, QUIETLY IN SOME PLACES AND VOCALLY FROM THE TERRACINGS AND INTO THE MODERN STANDS. RANGERS RUN OF SUCCESS IMMEDIATELY CAUSED THEM TO HAVE AMAZING SUCCESS IN LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHSIP MATCHES”.

“I was told we were very close to signing a RB from Leipzig…who at the last minute went to Ligue 1 in France.”

I can see no Right backs being sold by Leipzig this summer apart from Benno Schmitz, a fringe player, who was sold to Cologne for £1.5m. There were no transfers from Leipzig to Ligue 1 in France.

However, Leipzig did buy a RB from France- one Nordi Mukiele for 16m euros from Montpelier. They also bought an Argentinian lB for 12m euros and a Brazilian Centre Forward for 15 m. That is what we are up against.

  8. Also ment to say I have also enjoyed the discussion regarding the transfer window, plus and minus points on all sides ???

Wonder if the Strong Rangers Association will suddenly require some extra coaches for the national team.

Oh, and maybe the BBC will suddenly require some new pundits…..

I feel honoured you read my post and commented on it. Good to see you back on here.

I had heard about Primrose Ure before and what that entailed. In all honesty I always thought primrose was a woman :)))

  11. I wonder if Fergus will be wheeled oot to demand the stripping of the stolen trophies and, monies ?

Or will Fergus still be stuck in -“Rangers FC should never be put out of the same league as, Celtic FC.” – mode ?

Who would win between, a gullibilly Hun, or a gullibilly Tim ?

Seriously, what the f*** were we thinking they would do?

*there was also Ian “This has to be said about Rangers, as a Scottish Football club they are a permanent embarrassment and an occasional disgrace. This country would be a better place if Rangers did not exist.” archer who also said at the end of the article which included this statement “and because some people are so sick, I have to put 6 words at the end of this column. I am not a Roman Catholic”.

BTW I read a book while on vacation by Liam McIllvaney, son of William and NOT a son of william I hasten to add lol, who is the Stuart Professor of Scottish Studies chair at the University of Otago NZ, called “The Quaker” which has a Bible John slant to it.

  14. This is from a BBC article on vigilante justice and unrest in Germany.

A far-right football fan group called Kaotic Chemnitz had earlier called out supporters to show “who is in charge”, while protesters on Sunday could be seen chanting “We are the people!” and “This is our city!”.

    Sounds familiar

Huns behave the same the world over. It’s in their DNA.

  15. HEBCELT,ok didn’t mean to come across as anti shareholders,I would just like them to put pressure on the board,ie the main Stand to be upgraded, and I don’t believe it would cost 30 or 40 Million to do that, also better food outlets, especially in the front Stand, and if could you ask at the next AGM, about the spare ground next to the Emirates, which has been laying empty for years,if they could purchase that piece of land for car parking,

  16. FB- no matter how many times you visit NY, there’s always a wee bit left to see the next time.HH

  17. Tbh I don’t really care about ex players being chased for tax owed, the titles should’ve been removed and those directors who sat on the SFA board should have been removed.

    The rest is just pantomime.

  18. GlassTwoThirdsFull on

Those EBT recipients must be regretting getting involved with them at all. Particularly since they said they would have joined Rangers even without them…..

  19. !!BB!!-feel as if we’ve been on our feet since we got here but haven’t even scratched the surface ???

  20. GLASSTWOTHIRDSFULL @ 6:38 pm,

The fall-out could be massive… the poeple, involved could well break ranks…

    Alex McLeish 2012…

“As for stripping titles, it would be very disappointing if that was to happen to Rangers and I don’t believe it should – and if a guy turns up at my door looking for the medals back, they’ll be getting a right-hander!

    Alex McLeish 2016

“However McLeish says if Gers didn’t spend big they would have struggled to compete with their Old Firm rivals.

He said: “You saw how close it was in terms of winning the Championship. There was a goal in it. We were so level it wasn’t true.

“If we didn’t pay the same kind of money Celtic were paying their players we would have been behind them.”

Now a cynic might say that the SFA was keen to ensure Alex was looked efter… he was becoming a bit of a blabber mouth…

Sack Strachan after Scotland’s best run of form in decades and give the job to AMcL who had/has known issues.

    Still he’s been schtum since;)

The fact is the pressure on these guys to pay back is going to be immense.

Poeple were criticising Auldheid earlier today for chasing a lost cause.

By keeping the pressure on the cheats and vagabonds they have kept these issues alive.

Now if you were in these ex-footballers shoes and HMRC were coming after you, potentially making you bankrupt, don’t you think you’d be looking to sue Rangers, or Murray, or even the SFA for failing to protect what you, when you thought was a legally binding agreement?

This is becoming to get interesting.

    Hail Hail

  21. CHAIRBHOY-your probably correct, but it’s been going to get interesting for a wee while now and still nothing, but we live in hope ???

  22. Huns will blame agents for bad advice or go bankrupt like Fergiehun, taxman will get very little IMO

  23. CHAIRBHOY on 27TH AUGUST 2018 6:49 PM

Was just thinking if and which player will be first to go down the legal route. No point in going after the old Club as it’s creditor pot is decimated so I would imagine they would be looking for grounds to go after an individual. Most of the recipients will have an affection for them but when it comes to money all gloves are likely to be removed.

This is a charade. Strip the titles and declare those titles, Won by cheating!

The taxman will get zero from the EBT cheats.

    This is a sideshow. Squirrel.

  27. LennyBhoy, speedy recovery my friend.

I doubt Hector will take kindly to an individual giving all of his assets to a spouse then declaring themselves bankrupt.

    More court cases I think.

  28. Turkeybhoy

You are dead right about the transfer budget. I believe Brendan had the biggest budget ever for a manager in this window. Taking the income from Armstrong and sell on money from Van Dyke, the budget was close to £35 million. Now we have only spent £9m on Eduoard. and I don’t know what Arzani cost for a loan fee. so by my reckoning he has £20m -£25m to spend

Now we don’t know why a number of Targets were not secured but I am sure it wasn’t for lack of money. If Boyata were sold then he would get the bulk of the money back for the budget.

We know that any budget unspent will deferred to the next window. Brendan has a lot of cash to spend
