The script was written. Dedryck Boyata was destined to open the scoring against Hamilton Accies yesterday. The only surprise was that this wasn’t followed by ‘a Dedryck moment’, as he mis-controlled for an equaliser. Brendan now has some big decisions to make about the player, but with Jozo Simunovic and Jack Hendry injured, we are down to only two fit central defenders heading into the games against Suduva and Newco, the latter after the transfer window closes (Marvin Compper isn’t even in the debate).
We continually hear that January is a difficult time to sign players. That being the case, we might get as much money for Dedryck then as now. I would also be concerned about signing a player a day or two before throwing him into an atmospheric (cough) capacity game. Especially if he is young.
Brendan has made his thoughts known on our defending this season, but yesterday’s footage from Fir Park will give him some ideas for this Sunday’s game. With so much in play, you feel there is a pivotal week ahead.

Res12 being the subject under discussion with apparent lack of drive, I’ve something to add that hopefully dispels the idea that any more supporters resources should be wasted on this if those responsible to represent the shareholders or those responsible to enforce the laws of the sport do not properly address the situation.
During the many discussion had with the company secretary the fraudulent elements of the of the issue were raised on numerous occasions. Unfortunately Auldheid and BRTH aligned with the argument that people in the position of power with corporate allegiances who may have relevant information, were not obliged to make disclosure since the disclosure of the relevant information can be considered as confidential corporate information and they were within their rights to maintain its confidentiality status. Since we were in the company of two lawyers I was inclined to defer to their greater understanding of the law and took their advice in good faith.
Imagine to my surprise I found this and been in a bit of a huff since
Legal definitions
The offence of fraud is laid out in Chapter 35 of The Fraud Act 2006 which came into effect on 15 January 2007, and affects England and Wales and Northern Ireland:
1. Fraud
(1) A person is guilty of fraud if he is in breach of any of the sections listed in subsection (2) (which provide for different ways of committing the offence).
(2) The sections are—
(a) section 2 (fraud by false representation),
(b) section 3 (fraud by failing to disclose information), and
(c) section 4 (fraud by abuse of position).
(3) A person who is guilty of fraud is liable—
(a) on summary conviction, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months or to a
fine not exceeding the statutory maximum (or to both);
(b) on conviction on indictment, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 10 years or to a
fine (or to both).
(4) Subsection (3)(a) applies in relation to Northern Ireland as if the reference to 12 months were a reference to 6 months.
2. Fraud by false representation
(1) A person is in breach of this section if he—
(a) dishonestly makes a false representation, and
(b) intends, by making the representation— (i) to make a gain for himself or another, or (ii)
to cause loss to another or to expose another to a risk of loss.
(2) A representation is false if—
(a) it is untrue or misleading, and
(b) the person making it knows that it is, or might be, untrue or misleading.
(3) “Representation” means any representation as to fact or law, including a representation as
to the state of mind of—
(a) the person making the representation, or
(b) any other person.
(4) A representation may be express or implied.
(5) For the purposes of this section a representation may be regarded as made if it (or
anything implying it) is submitted in any form to any system or device designed to receive,
convey or respond to communications (with or without human intervention).
3. Fraud by failing to disclose information
A person is in breach of this section if he—
(a) dishonestly fails to disclose to another person information which he is under a legal
duty to disclose, and
(b) intends, by failing to disclose the information— (i) to make a gain for himself or another,
or (ii) to cause loss to another or to expose another to a risk of loss.
4. Fraud by abuse of position
(1) A person is in breach of this section if he—
(a) occupies a position in which he is expected to safeguard, or not to act against, the
financial interests of another person,
(b) dishonestly abuses that position, and
(c) intends, by means of the abuse of that position— (i) to make a gain for himself or
another, or (ii) to cause loss to another or to expose another to a risk of loss.
(2) A person may be regarded as having abused his position even though his conduct
consisted of an omission rather than an act.
===========================================================================
So
Section 2 could apply a club knowingly providing false information, does any club spring to mind?
Section 3 & 4 could apply to personnel withholding information they are legally responsible for implementing whilst in a position of power, do any names spring to mind?
Oh and for anyone thinking of pointing out this applies to England, Wales & Northern Ireland
only, I should remind them the Celtic Plc trades on the London stock exchange.
https://www.cityoflondon.police.uk/advice-and-support/fraud-and-economic-crime/Pages/Reporting-fraud.aspx
This is the end game if they don’t get this sorted properly and as I’ve previously expressed, I now feel morally obliged to make the complaint irrespective of the outcome of the sporting authorities.
Time for a reflounce
Ian Archer was the high-water mark in sports reporting at a time when the Glasgow Herald was rightly regarded as one of the finest newspapers in Europe. Tom Reynolds was another.
Archer’s writing was at times beautiful, sometimes contentious, often uncomfortable, but it was never anything but honest.
He couldn’t give a **** about the entrenched establishment in Scotland because he believed that a journalist’s only reason for existence is to tell the truth. And so did the Herald, at that time.
It’s a bitter irony that James Traynor was taken on to the Herald, which was then beginning its decline, in the hope that he could fill Archer’s shoes, and restore to the paper the integrity and style that was steadily leaching out.
And an even more galling irony is that he might have done, because he had a writing talent, not in the league of Archer or McIlvanney, but still a talent.
But he isn’t the first journalist to follow the money, nor will he be the last.
I regard him as a journalistic version of Maurice Johnson.
Nuff said.

As mentioned earlier, titles must’ve stripped
Auldheid @ 3:16pm – thank you for clarification.
Fritzsong @ 4:15pm – I share your views but, possibly, not your eloquence.
Feeling very confident about Sunday.
Just checked where UFA is on map and am not convinced Sevco will be back in time for kick off.
Rickshaw, donkey and cart, charabanc followed by three flights (in coach) could take days.
Hail hail
That Torre Flon ebt letter. Just wow.
How that is not considered as being contractual by the SFA arses to cover with improperly registered but eligible verdict. Just wow.
If I had Dermot s money I would take it all the way.
Mr Heavily Conflicted
Bob Crampsey was an RC and a teacher in RC schools. However, he was no Celtic fan and I have personally heard his criticisms of the White and Kellys who ran Celtic at the time.
Bob was a history teacher and tried to deal in facts and as a result was fair and measured in his reporting. To us fairness and no bias was such a breath of fresh air compared to the rest of the Hun infested press.
Titles should be stripped, but not re-allocated.
Lennybhoy.
Sorry to hear about your accident.
Hopefully you will be better soon, I always look forward to reading your posts.
Hail Hail
FAIRHILL BHOY @ 6:59 PM,
“CHAIRBHOY-your probably correct, but it’s been going to get interesting for a wee while now and still nothing, but we live in hope
DAVID17 @ 7:01 PM,
“Was just thinking if and which player will be first to go down the legal route. No point in going after the old Club as it’s creditor pot is decimated so I would imagine they would be looking for grounds to go after an individual. Most of the recipients will have an affection for them but when it comes to money all gloves are likely to be removed.
Well, it’s very true that this has been a slo-burner to say the least, it is also true to say that many ex-players do, or would have had an affection for the Club.
Yet the fact is for these guys it’s the family fortune and kids/grandkids future they are talking about.
Add to that the Club left them high and dry. After making verbal and written promises to ensure they were indemnified against any losses – they didn’t.
And more to the point those that made the promises were very hasty in protecting their own position.
Interesting how ling ago Barry Ferguson went bankrupt. Was he given the early heads up?
When everybody else was told to stay schtum and say they would have played for Rangers anyway… was Barry told what the likely outcome was really to be?
See the thing is, if the players getting the bills now or in the last few months, transfer their assets to their wife or children or both. It would look deeply suspicious.
And HMRC could and would come after the inheritors of those assets…
Barry may or may not be ok, depends how smart his lawyers are/we’re.
That Twitter feed is interesting…
Of course Flo was involved in Campbell Ogilvies DOS scheme (the wee tax case) rather than the EBTs (the big tax case) the confusion is due to the way Rangers, the SFA and the SPL blurred the lines and set up smoke & mirrors to ensure that the Wee Tax Case wasn’t fully understood and the side letter and tax issues that would have resulted in sanctions and the rejection of Rangers 2011 UEFA Licence was not apparent to the subsequent, inquires, commissions and judicial panels.
You’ve got to take your hat off to Stewart Regan – a more convincing liar would be hard to meet.
SAINT STIVS @ 7:37 PM,
You haven’t seen that before… there’s plenty more like it…
Also Rangers swore to HMRC it did not exist. The Met Police found it (and others) when they raided Ibrox.
That is why they threatened to do Rangers for fraud… it is why they couldn’t legally defend the Wee Tax Case, they’ve never paid it – ever but it was outstanding when Rangers applied for their 2011 UEFA licence and they lied about it.
Hail Hail
Every hundred result should be 0-3 and the points reallocated.
18 in a row.
Chairbhoy
I haven’t seen that before.
Is Neil McCann’s available
He turned down Blackburn and Leeds to join them
That awkward moment when Nacho Novo is a player that you couldn’t ‘otherwise have afforded’.
Saint Stivs
I agree with Ron Bacardi.
Strip the huns cheated titles, but do not reallocate them. I was a season ticket holder throughout the cheating years, but would rather the cheated titles were declared void. An asterisk, with an explanation of cheating beside those titles, would satisfy my soul.
BSR
My favourite player the huns could not have afforded without an EBT, is Boab Malcolm.
Gooood Evening CQN – ???????
So did FtSFA compliance officer cite the Goalkeeper McGregor today for assault ?
Seeing the ref missed the incident – or chose to ignore it ??
FtSFA
Scenario,
Legal representative acting on behalf of EBT recipient sends bill to Sevco to recoup tax as per side letter.
Sevco: not us, different company.
Lawyer: letter says Club, please pay.
Sevco: ahh but 5 way agreement
Lawyer: asks SFA for copy of 5 way, refused.
Court ?
DELANEY,
That would be the best result. Show Scotland and SKY that the thieving huns did not get away with it.
On the subject of Celtic-minded journalists usince the 1960s: Cyril Horne (Glasgow Herald), John Rafferty (Scotsman), Ian Paul (Glasgow Herald who also did the horses), Gerry McNee (friendly until Cesar banjaxed him) and Hugh Keevins (Scotsman friendly until the Artuur Jorge exclusive). Tontine Tim may remember more.
Ron B
Every fitba history book would also have to show it for future generations to read.
Cheatin bassas revealed for all to see.
Perfect.
SAINT STIVS @ 7:55 PM,
“Is Neil McCann’s available”
According to this… yes it is…
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-34118126
On todays Alasdair Lamont article…
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/45322276
I found this interesting…
“Trident Trust stresses it is not offering advice, rather urging the players and staff involved to seek expert advice on how to deal with the situation.
An off-shore Trust helpfully giving free advice, a Rangers supporting journalist highlighting the danger…
It’s as if there is a concerted effort to ensure these players settle as quickly as possible while HMRC offer preferential terms.
Before it gets messy and goes legal… stories of bankrupt players suing a Football Club that no longer exists (although many think it is still going:).
A Knight of the Realm, or fingering an ex-President of the SFA for starters may be a mite embarrassing…
If I was them, I would be going to a good Lawyer to protect mine and my families wealth. I would be looking to my fellow pros and maybe taking a class action.
Hail Hail
Hugh McDonald….
Plus George Aitken of the Evening Citizen.
After a fantastic long day in the sun, back in the apartment and spent half an hour reading through today’s posts. All I can say is, if I was in the position to father another child is name him Auldheid! That’s all.

What about Brian Wilson who wrote for the Guardian for some time.
DELANEY,
We can but hope. Doubt that I will see it soon. Scottish football authorities are doing everything to delay any progress in true examination of the entire EBT years at Ibrox.
DD. Nearly spewed up this morning’s porridge. I thought we were restricted to people who could write?
AuldBaldieHeid?
BIGYINMILAN, did not remember horne rafferty or paul. do recall keevins and mcnee but thought better not mention them on here.lol.
BIGBHOY@7.42pm
Bob Crampsey was indeed a ( my ) history teacher at Holyrood. He came from a Queens Park supporting family ( I believe his brother played in goal for them ). Bob also won the first BBC Brain of Britain contest.
I agree he was no Celtic fan in the conventional sense however being a critic of the Kelly’s and White’s Management was not a minority activity. I think it is fair to say that a large swathe if not the majority of Celtic fans had little regard for their running of the club. Then again a quick read through CQN and similar remarks occur here. No time for Boards or Directors yet I believe these positions are constructed from vague ideas either about an individual’s skills or commitment to the club.
My own take on Bob Crampsey ( who once tried to explain the laws of cricket to our class ) was that he was trying to get us to think wider than being merely tribal followers of Celtic. He challenged our received view of life in the West of Scotland and personally I always thought of him as an admirer of Celtic- he just didn’t want to be seen joining in with the rest of us young rebels when he was trying to be an educator and mentor.
I had other teachers at the school who didn’t play that game. They were outwardly and visibly Celtic men. Our PT teacher ( Murphy ) for years read the team announcements for years.
One parting thought. Clearly been a difficult time at Celtic and equally clearly something has occurred to change the mood music. Did Peter and Brendan have a spat? Has Brendan had second thoughts about life in the slow lane – when he might be in sunnier climes? The reality is no one ( I am guessing here ) on CQN knows the whole truth yet so many are quick to judgement. The demographic on this site suggests mature individuals and I am sure in life most people are yet wild assertions are made about individuals and the Celtic Board without any real evidence. That continues to surprise and disappoint me.
Celtic Football Club does have real enemies. People who would like to see the club fail and they are rejoicing now at the setbacks being inflicted. The most significant quality amongst the Celtic support is our ability to rally to the cause in times of danger. We have always done that and believe always will.
It is beholden on all of us who have had the gift of Celtic passed to us to stand up for the club. Give it fair criticism where it is merited but remember that we have very few allies so no fuel on the fire lads. Time to stand strong, be positive about our achievements, make light of recent difficulties, rally round and go forward to secure this eighth title and really stick it to the huns.
Think fans will be important on Sunday. Given recent events, there is the potential for a more subdued, anxious atmosphere- particularly if we don’t score early.
As regards newco, their main danger will be set pieces and crosses to laugherty. They have every right to be optimistic about that scenario. For that reason, Boyata should play ahead of Hendry and both Forrest and McGregor/Sinclair will have to work hard to protect Lustig/Gamboa and KT.
Moussa must start. I think Rogic will start so the front six should be: Forrest, Brown, Ntcham, Rogic, McGregor and Moussa.
At the back it’s a big call between ML and CG at right back. ML hasn’t shown great form but he does tend to play well against them.
Personally I’d play Bain before Gordon but think Brendan will stick rather than twist there.

What a country Scotland is, the national team manager getting paid by a subsidised SFA, while getting chased by tax authorities lol psml lmao https://twitter.com/bbcsportsound/status/1034110099659411457
